you know how Eiichiro Oda claims that he has the ending for One Piece all thought out? Well until the ending comes, does anyone know if he has the rest of the series planned out or if he's just creating what comes in mind?

aslo, do the characters in One Piece age? like it's been over 10 years or so, does anyone know if the characters age in One Piece?

Good question. Ever since he started wearing his tin foil hat, i've been un-able to read his thoughts :(

What did you expect? That someone here knows him personally and has asked him about his plans for the series, and then has gotten a definate answer and has kindly decided to share it?

Actually, I think I read somewhere, that he's planned the series to last twenty more years. He said you'll know the ending is near when the One Piece crew comes across captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl. The final fights will be Zoro versus Jack and Luffy versus Will Turner.

What I've heard about this whole debate was that Eiichiro has originally written the whole story out. However from the turn out that One Piece has gotten, he has added several elements onto it and now no one knows when it'll end.

^ That's right, it's all there in wikipedia. Oda planned to make it last 5 years but because he was having so much fun with the series he's on a hot streak at the moment until he gets bored of it and wraps it up with an unfulfilling climax and unreasonable and nonsensical character departures to end the series. Hmm.. sounds like another shounen I know...

We might not know much about what Oda holds for OP in the future, but as long as it' s a success it' ll go on. OP started in 1999 (in USA it started much later, but anyway). When you think about it, everything they went through sure is not as much as what is to come (all those new ennemies...It' ll takes years for Luffy to beat them all) It' s already taken 10 years to get to this point, I' m sure it' ll take at least ten or more years to get to the end. My opinion.
though they don' t say it, I' m sure they age too. Maybe it' s been a year or two since the beginning, maybe Oda lets us the fans have our own ideas and guessing. The only anime where they don' t age is Pokemon.

I know we wanted some answers from Oda, but it' s quasi impossible to get them, all we can do is guess...

While I understand where you're coming from on that one I have to disagree. At the pace the anime is going at the moment it most certainly would take at least 10 years to end the series. But do remember that the pace is always changing in a shonen and drastically increases once the manga is complete. My guess is One Piece would end in 4 or 5 years max.

The series has already begun to set the tone for its climax with the whole 'New Age' of pirates talk. The series also contains many references to the real life 'Golden Age of Pirates' and the talk about the current age of pirates coming to an end most certainly signals the series bracing itself for a huge climax, since the real life 'Golden Age' ended amidst wide-held predictions and expectations that it would end at the time it did. Also Ace and Blackbeard's little cliffhanger showdown signals a sort of beginning of the end.

Now I don't read the manga mind you so I don't know which route the show has taken as far as the plot is concerned, but I'm pretty sure Luffy has had another epic fight and the series has apparently moved much closer to that much anticipated climax in the 'Shin Sekkai' ^_^ .

Luffy doesn't have to fight ALL these strong pirates which are introduced because they simply aren't threatening his way of life the way previous enemies have, besides, the crew wants a piece of them as well. There's only three guys Luffy really has to fight before the series is concluded which are: Ao Kiji (unfinished business), Shanks (to prove himself) and Whitebeard (because he's the strongest pirate in the world and to be the best you have to beat the best). Anyone else is pretty much a minor obstacle, comparitively speaking.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ace went down somehow and Luffy had to fight Blackbeard.

As one who has been reading and watching im pretty confident to say that it will indeed go on for at least another 10 years. But without going into spoilers and such the shin sekai(a.k.a new world) is described as the other half of the grand line correct me if im wrong. Which is why many would assume that it would take another 10 years for it to complete.

^ Since you read the manga I have no choice but to believe the 10 years thing now. If it does then that would be great because I love it so much and One Piece is one of the very few shonen that consistently delivers. But, I dunno, I just somehow expect it to run out of steam somewhere along the way, probably because of all those other shonen that have let me down in the past.

^Yeah, but if it was gonna let you down, it would have down it in the half a thousand chapters that have already past

^ That would be very funny if I do so happen to read One Piece manga:

Now I don't read the manga mind you so I don't know which route the show has taken as far as the plot is concerned...

Feels good to quote myself :D

^...er..., I put in the "" so it didn't sound like I was insulting you. and the anime is only about 50 chapters beheind the manga. It was just a light comment, nothing to get snappy about.

Wow I didn't know that. That's very interesting because I thought it was about 150 or chapters ahead of the anime like in Naruto. So the anime is walking closer with the manga than I thought. You learn something new everyday.

It may be even more ahead. The animes on the thriller bark arc, and thats chapters 442-489, and in total there are 499 chapters.
