May have to ask on the skype forum (no need to register for the skype forum seperately, you can login using your skype account), I've never used skype on 56k. :)

Yeah, I ended up quiting the conference thing and just doing a 1 on 1 with Kenshin for about 15 or 20 minutes. It worked out fine.

Also, I think the group conversations suck anyways, I mean, I'd rather speak to just Prons and maybe one other person rather than trying to have 10 people talk at once. I seriously wasted about 30 minutes yesterday trying to get into the damn chat. <_<

Alright folks, I'm gonna set the tenitive chat time to around 7:30 PM to 8 PM Pacific Timeish, It may be a little rough for those on the East coast but a majority of the people who showed up and spent a lot of time in the chat yesterday were from the Westish side. UK users will want to wake up early :P

Once again everyone should test their microphone by calling the Skype test call , basically just call skype user echo123 and test your microphone.

If your mic doesn't work or isn't loud enough, windows users can click Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume control, and go to file, preferences, checking microphone, checking show advanced options, clicking accept, unmuting the microphone, going to advanced and turning on microphone boost or whatever and seeing if you can hear yourself, and then mute it again before skype voice chatting with us.

REmember, skype is 100% free unless you call telephones, but because this is just a computer to computer confrence there's no need to worry about being feed or anything. Also you can change your dispaly name on skype by

I don't think it'll have much affect on how you sound. About 3/4ths of the time, a lot of the people just sound like drugged up robots. It's part of the Skype experience, making fun of people's voices. Then again, if your voice completely changes when you aren't sick anymore, it'll be really odd...

No fujyoshi you really don't have to do anything with a phone number or money.

All you really do is register a name, it's free, and you can call any computer for free.

The pay for services are if you want to use skype to call actual phones. Like if you were using skype and you wanted to call your friends cellphone. Or if you wanted it so people could call you using their land lines.

I tried it once. It sounded like a bunch of voices in an electronic blender, with occasional snippets where a couple of the voices were clear enough to understand for a few seconds.

Not entirely unlike that time I ate the Guatemalan Insanity Pepper, really.

Anyway, I uninstalled Skype. Didn't need it. I'm sure it works great for the rest of you. Enjoy. I'll save my sarcasm for the main forum.

This is what happened to me the first time through. The second time, there were less people, and we could talk clearly... but Skype isn't for me. :lol:

The only thing I use it for now is trying to find Chinese peeps to chat with... Unfortunately it causes IE to not work correctly, but that doesn't matter because I only use FF anyways.

It's popular but I'm new to it myself.

I wouldn't just go talking to random people at the moment. Read the FAQs and things like that. Test it with people that you know IRL (ie friends, family classmates or international friends).

It doesn't look too difficult but like I said, I haven't tried it out yet.

Hi, there's a lot of things to do.

I usually find chatting partners by country, skype is a great way to learn languages, and to just meet students because there's about a gazillion people on there trying to learn English. As it stands my skype list is about 2-3 feet long (I counted it before, it'd easily be over 5 feet if I didint' clean it out every six months), to give you an idea of how many people it's possible to meet.

As for things to do, there's a lot of little games and such, Skype Chinese Checkers is really fun, but the rest of the games that were on there last time sucked.

Of course skype has very good voice chat and webcamera functions.

We used to have anime nation skype nights, there was a gigantic thread and on the first post was a pretty big "directory" of an users that used skype."

You know, it's interesting you mention that. After I merged the threads, I noticed there was a title change. Either another moderator stepped in, or the merge did it automatically (which isn't likely...but...whatever).

It works though, since this is now the go-to thread for Skype.

There's a ton of headsets, and there's a lot of stand up micrphones that stand up on your desk infront of your face so it looks like you're talking into a phallic symbol, but other than that they're light weight and easy to fold up and set away.

Anyway, you have plenty of options for microphones, most new computers even have built in ones if I remember right (I remember seeing it listed as features at Circuit City)
