Found this reading latest CRYPTO-GRAM (http://www.schneier.com/crypto-gram.html):
U.S. Spies Want to Find Terrorists in World of Warcraft (http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/02/nations-spies-w.html)
US seeks terrorists in web worlds (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7274377.stm)
The US government has begun a project to develop ways to spot terrorists who are using virtual worlds.
Not a bad idea though.

I heard a small bit about this on the news the other night and I *facepalmed* so hard I broke my nose. Seeking terrorists in a virtual world >_>, and a MMORPG at that, if terrorists are having so much free time lately that they can hang out in online games can they really even be consitered a threat. So does this mean when I get bored in Halo 3 and decided to be a teammate killer for a few games I'm going to get watched.

Is there nothing the US Govt won't do? Seriously, next they'll be sifting through tv channels trying to decide which are terroristic. Wtf, man?
No wonder everyone hates us...

Can you say veiled attempts at installing a Big Brother scheme?
Categorizing behavior in a virtual world to combat terrorists is a ridiculous idea if I ever heard one. This is best suited to virtual anthropology, if anything. Behavior in an online world simply cannot be a perfect representative of an individual's propensity to terrorism.
I'm more inclined to question where, exactly, are these guys getting such ideas and the logic in using up taxpayer money for something that has a low probability of succeeding.

makes you wonder whether the pun in the simpsons movie that the U.S goverment was monitoring every single conversation in attempted to find terrorists and wanted criminals was based on fact...

Yeah, THAT'S gonna go over real well. Show of hands, class. Who bets we see an alarming increase of federal arrests immediately following the release of this program?

I can't wait till my house is raided after my friends and I play a game of Risk and the feds decide my comments to attack "Eastern United States" is a terrorist plot.

OMG, if we plan to attack Afghanistan (which is also on the Risk map) they might bring support troops.

I would keep a close eye on the Gundam forum as terrorism is somewhat frowned upon by Gundam pilots with a lose trigger finger.

In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure the CIA has a file on me. I visit and post on sites that are known to be watched by them.

Also, in all seriousness I bet I have gotten myself on some lists. Mostly for the **** I wrote on those state tests in high school. Being me...I could easily be classified as a terrorist in their eyes, and I mean this all literally. Funny though, I know I've had my phone tapped before...(I really mean this)
Well this is why I plan to go to the Netherlands when I get out of college.

Wait... how does this work again? I thought the CIA dealt with external threats to America's national security. Wouldn't it be the FBI that had the file on you? Or maybe the NSA, because who knows what they do, right?

The CIA has been known to deal with internal threats also, and carry out experiments on Americans- such as MK-ULTRA, attempted mind-control by administration of LSD to unsuspecting citizens.

Sure, a lot of person's psychology can be discovered from observation of one's online behavior. It could be interesting to work on some automatic tool that analyzes internet traffic in this aspect. It's like fishing with net: catch fish, small and big. And costs nothing.
