View Full Version : Am I a Masochist?!

So the other day I'm home just chilling out, flipping through the channels on the T.V and I come across a quaint little show known as Kenan and Kel. Since nothing was on at the moment and I was board, I proceed to watch, what many would consider, a classic.

I would just like you all to note that this is my first opportunity watching K&K since you see, when I was younger, I was never blessed with the pleasure of havening cable. So for the first 13 cable inadequate years of my life, I was subjected to basic television, which at the time hurt, but came to realize later in life that shows like Family Matter's, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince, The Wonder Years, Boy meets World, etc. were my foundation and taught me the basic understanding of good friendship's and great family structure...Sorry, I'm kinda rambling now.

Now fast forward to today, I'm in my room watching this show and come to realize...it's kinda bad....Kinda really bad...

Now now, before and the K&K fans pounce on me like a liger at feeding time (Simmer down Prons), I've come to realize that the humor present in the mid to late 90's is different from the humor we have today. I can understand that, Heck I still watch Fresh Prince to this day like its the first time I'm laying eyes on it. its just something about K&K that makes me feel uncomfortable watching it. From the more "smarter", hair brained scheme planing Kenan, to the although a bit slow but morally intelligent, orange soda loving Kel, their antics, in short can described as the modern day (?) The Three Stooges minus a member. It was so bad at some points most of their endeavors just made me feel embarrassed watching them.

So I watched another episode, then another, then another just to see if this is the basic outline of the show. Just to answer you all whose never watched, yes it is. I watched all till another program came on after it. looking at the time passed, I'm surprised that I actually sat down ad watched 4-5 episode's. Now I'm sitting there looking at the time and noticed about two and a half hours passed. Two and a half of my precious hours wasted on a show that I should have turned away a long time ago but If you were to ask me what I was feeling at that moment, I'll tell you as easily and simple as I can. Happy.

Even though the show wasn't funny at some area's that it even bordered on embarrassing and from the very predictable layout of the show, I didn't regret a single minute watching K&K. I even set my T.V to remind me when more episodes are coming on. Then I came to a unhealthy assumption about myself....I must be a masochist, Why else would I hate a show and enjoy it so throughly?

PS. The Christmas episode where Kenen gets the bike for the two little kids at Christmas time rally warmed my masochistic heart.

Not a masochist, you just like really bad shows. To me, K&K was pretty low on the quality list when it came to Nick. I much prefer their early 90's LA shows.

Lighten up. Just go download all of Doug (not that Disney garbage).

Is it true?

I agree with lav2k though. It was never that great. It had some great moments, but it definitely wasn't as cool as some other Nickelodeon shows.

So what you're trying to say is that K&K wasn't... all that people made it out to be?

Speaking of All That, if you haven't seen "All That" before Kenan and Kell left, it's no wonder you think Kenan and Kel is bad lol. those two made "All That" Feel like a kids version of Saturday Night live. Those two and the fat chick *forget her name*

In my opinion Kenan and Kell is like, a really long "All That" skit.

Anyone remember the Tuba-phone? "It's not just a Tuba! It's a phone!!!!!" Classic lol

lol ROFLMAO seriously, I think All That was an entertaining show.

Is it true that Kenan and Kell are regular appearances on Saturday Night Live now? I saw Kenan on there once.

I'm sorry, I loved it then, and when I too saw that Christmas episode again a few months ago, I loved it all the same.
I just never made the distinction between it and "better" Nick shows...because that's how my mind worked then. I'm aware that most of what I love about these shows is clouded in blind nostalgia, but....oh well? =p

1. I also love orange soda, but I only like Sunkist.:P That is the ONLY orange soda!

2. All That lost it's luster long ago, after the original cast left. 90's cartoons were great. Now....ugh.:x Along with most of TV.

My mom wouldn't let me watch All That, or the Simpsons for that matter. Didn't stop me though when she wasn't looking.;)

Doug>K&K....Hands down.

Hey, remember Powerpuff Girls? And Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, and the really really really old school Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog?

Not Nick shows, but ownage on an epic scale.

Dexter's Lab always made me laugh. Best cartoon ever was battletech. They really needed to make more episodes for that series. It was really good. I watched it a while ago just to relive my childhood a bit but it actually has a good story to it and the ending really wanted me for them to continue it. I still watch it today.

Anyway K and K was good fun when i was a kid. Not something i really looked forward to bt i used to sit in front of the TV a lot so i had to watch something lol. Fresh Prince trumps K and K though.

First: They show Kenan and KEl again?!

Kenan and Kel was a really funny show, but it suffers from Good Burger complex. FUnny as all hell, but the only part of it that seem to impact people is the catch phrases. I'm a dude, she's a dude, he's a dude, and we're all dudes HAY welcome to good burger home of the good burger can I take your order who loves orange soda? But it's not much in terms of an impacting show. What do I mean by this?

Well, what's YOUR favoirte kenan and kel episoes?

Go ahead. Think of 3 kenan and kel stories, instead of random scenes and catch phrases and get back to me on it.

I love Kenan & Kel! I watch it every day...
I watched Doug, but his infatuation with Patty Mayonaise always bugged me.

My all time favourite is Hey Arnold!. Though, it has some tragic underlying tones...

Still my favourite.

Hey arnold is the most ****ed up show ever.

Let's list some of the reasons:

1) Helga's obsession with Arnold. She made a statue of his used chewing gum used condiment wrappers and such, and she even dressed like him and wore football shaped african style helmets to worship arnold. Yes, worship arnold like a diety.

2) Helga's obsession caused her mom to abuse coffee and presumebly other substances by the way she'd sometimes become disorented and "strung out"

3) There was the episode where eugene went insane and locked himself in his room and avoided all human contact like an anime fan or something.

4) That kid who ate chocolate like a substance abuser. If the target audiance was a little older they'd probably have been creeped out that there was a kid who was a cartoon embodiment of a heroin junky. There was even an episode centered around him having chocolate withdrawls.

5) The episode with the murderous evil ice cream man which resulted in sort of an animated Watts Riot where the kids tried to tip over his ice cream truck.

In fact there were a lot of murderous and insane characters. Remember SToop Kid a feral child who never left the porch of an abandoned building? The guy who died when his bean cooking machine exploded?

How about the crazy pigeon guy? At the very end he convinced the pigeons to fly away with him.

Remember when Curly locked himself in the principals office and assaulted everyone who came by with dodge balls?

6) Arnold's parents were dead, not absent or "at work," they were authetnically dead. That was almost as ****ed up as the cast of Sesame street telling Big Bird his parents died.

7) The episode where arnold learned karate and wound up killing a bunch of people.

8) Harold being a self hating jew. How the hell did that episode not have any outlash from the jewish community?

9) The Pig War episode was one big wtf.

10) Dino Spimoni killing himself after a holywood downfall?

11) A REINACTMENT OF THE VIETNAM WAR AND THE FALL OF SAIOGN WHAT THE HELL.

Ahhh, how sublime.

But you forgot how Helga's parents don't even know her name. They call her by her beloved older sister's name, Olga.

Oh! And cheap ol' Oskar Kokoshka and his gambling addiction.

Sure, it's a little disturbing for a children's show, but I think that gives it a certain...charm.

I agree Like I said if you don't think Kenan and Kell were good on there own show then you probably haven't seen them on ALL THAT. I stopped watching All That when Peter (Another person I forget the name of) became a cast member.

The 90's was the peek for entertainment for the kids era, until those kid grew up and the following era turned emo. WTF happened there?

"Ren and Stimpy" was by far the most profound Nick show to ever hit a kid's network, when obscenity mixed with nick shows comes to mind, Ren in Stimpy sticks to it like lumps on a rolling log. It was so disturbing in fact that they removed it and put it on Comedy Central for a while.

Kell accidentally invents a cure for the common cold, and Kenan wants to turn it into a profit, unfortunately they forget what they did to make it so they make a new one and it does something weird (Forget what it does). That's probably the only episode i remember fully.
