Someone just sent me a link to a video clip of this "BigDog" robot. It's a pretty amazing robot, that walks on rough terrain, can carry a load, won't fall over if it is kicked or slips, and is going to give me nightmares. :O
Take a look:

Mecha fans! SF fans! Technology geeks! The future is here! It's scary!

That's neat! I want one! I just hope it's remote-controlled, and not a robot.

ok...i felt bad for the robot when the guy just walked up and Kicked it as hard as he could....what a mean way to test it.
I also felt bad when it was struggling on the ice.

Don't worry, we're not in the Astroboy or Ghost In The Shell universe, robots don't have feelings at the moment, and I don't think they'll be campaigning for equal rights anytime soon. I don't think it has a sense of identity, so you shouldn't impose one onto it.
Besides, I think they probably have military funding, so maybe they're training it like a soldier! (Terminator's four-legged friend)

I'm blown away. I've seen the running Japanese robot and was very impressed, but the dynamic capabilities of this robot dog are simply astounding. They really put it through a bunch of difficult tests and it performs well. It's still awkward and slow, but this is a major success in robotic movement. Wow!

That thing is terrifying, the way it moves when it's kicked and when it's on ice is at once impressive and creepy.
It's some headless whirring machination of the Devil.

My brother showed me that already. It's so creepy. They could have least put a head on it so it's not so weird looking. I wonder if you can ride it?

That was amazing. I suppose it makes sense that a robot designed in New England can handle snowy slopes and ice.
The most nightmarish part for me is that it sounded like a swarm of bees with its portable generator running.

Wait, what? People found that goofy looking thing scary? It was like a toddler or something, not exactly a stalking death machine.
Anyway, it's being made for use by the military for transporting goods accross rough terrain on the battlefield as well as potentially retrieving wounded or dead soldiers and carrying them off the front.

I'd laugh at you, but two things stop me from doing this:
I wanna be on the robots's good side when the robot apocalypse occurs
And I kinda felt the same way

Ditto, that sound makes me shiver whenever I hear it. I'm deathly afraid of bees for some reason. In fact, most flying insects. *shudder*
Seriously, if that thing had wings it could be used to terrorize children or something.

It resembles a headless walking animal carcass. :(

People found it creepy and/or scary because of it's near life like qualities; an attack of the uncanny valley if you will. Of course, there's also many other reasons why people might find it creepy...

I'[d like to know How it feels to be inside one of those things especially after being kicked...

You know, I'm rewatching FLCL, and that robot moves an awful lot like the Terminal Core when it first crawls out of the river.
If it eats a cellphone and grows bigger, then gets adopted by a homeless girl, I think we all need to arm ourselves with guitars and storm the iron*.
* It's a testament to FLCL's oddity that this sentence does make sense in context.

You're crazy if you think a guitar will take down one of those. Nothing less than a bass, oh the holy bass, will suffice.

Holy ****! That thing balances itself out when it loses balance! The only problem is the noise. An enemy will easily be able to know where our guys are. Other than that that thing is amazing.
I sense mecha in some form coming into reality in less than a decade.

hah you're right it does look a little bit like the Terminal Core, maybe thats why I felt bad for it when it was falling down, I thought the Terminal Core was cute...up until the point where it started eating Motorcycles and Trucks :P

That guy kicking it is going to make it into every angry robot propaganda film before the revolution.

I'm thinking in a decade or two they'll refine this enough to recreate The Luggage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Luggage)...

They could use that thing as a walking bomb.
