PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Two teenage boys are under arrest after they attempted to rob a police station.

Port St. Lucie police say the two boys - ages 12 and 14 - walked into the lobby of a regional station Wednesday afternoon and demanded money from an aide behind the glass enclosure.

Police say the 12-year-old hid one hand under his jacket as if he had a gun. Another aide ran into the back screaming for help.

Within minutes, a half dozen officers, some with guns drawn, burst into the lobby and arrested the boys. Both are charged with attempted armed robbery.

Police spokesman Rob Vega says the kids were laughing and remarked, "We'll be famous now."

the last comment, "We'll be famous" is laughable from the outside. Sure they'll be famous while someone's porking them in Juvenal hall.

They were under 15...i bet they were just released to mommy and daddy.
If it was my kid, I would TELL them to put the kid in federal prison.

This reminds me of the time a guy in Texas tried to rob a gun store. How can anyone be so stupid? Let's file this daring caper under worst plan ever.

This is what happens when physical punishment isn't given.

I actually agree with you in that fact, but of course to government's going to be on their side because they're just kids after all right?

....the Spanish Inquisition?

...oh, never mind.

Yeah, I like the way the kids don't even get to be famous for doing such a stupid thing, since they're protected and the names aren't being released by the media.

If there was a cop right there that they didn't notice, these kids would be in a morgue right now.

It's been done before, only at a gun shop with an off-duty cop. In my hometown, no less.

A Renton, Washington man tried to commit a robbery. This was probably his first attempt, as suggested by the fact that he had no previous record of violent crime, and by his terminally stupid choices as listed below:

1. The target was H&J Leather & Firearms...a gun shop.
2. The shop was full of customers, in a state where a substantial portion of the adult population is licensed to carry concealed handguns in public places.
3. To enter the shop, he had to step around a marked Police patrol car parked at the front door.
4. An officer in uniform was standing next to the counter, having coffee before reporting to duty.

Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a holdup and fired a few wild shots. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, removing him from the gene pool. Several other customers also drew their guns, but didn't fire. No one else was hurt.

Wow.....that is...well....Dumb. There is a reason criminals avoid buildings/cities that allow guns.

Well, since:

1. They knew it was a police station
2. They knew they would only get a slap on the wrist
3. Their entire goal was to "be famous"

...I'd say it was pretty ingenious - we are here talking about them, aren't we?

It's so dangerous though! They could have been shot. What if they came across a badass cop like this?

Well, they never actually brandished a weapon. Their "gun" was probably either a Batman action figure or a banana inside a pocket; it being held to give the impression of a firearm.

Did I use that semi-colon correctly? I don't know.

One time in biology class we were learning about the human colon and this one ditsy emo girl asked the teacher how it was different from a semi-colon. Teehee, teehee indeed.

Well, if you put your hand in your pocket, say you have a gun, and point it at a group of cops that are already on edge...you may catch a couple rounds.

I think it's from a Swedish film. A police comedy like Hot Fuzz probably. I think the title has the word "Kopp" in it.

lol, but yeah i agree that the kids knew they wouldn't get into serious trouble and no cop would want to shoot a kid so they could pull this off easily for laughs.

"now we'll be famous"

As far as i'm concerned, they should have been shot, multiple times, in as fast as those autoloaders can fire

for something as stupid as that, this is the only way they'd learn
