I've been very much interested in Chinese literature lately ever since I read the Dream of the Red Mansions. Anyone there who's read the book? I cried while reading the last few chapters. It was just so tragic and sad but I like it. It stayed on my mind for a long time, even now.

I think the only translated Chinese texts I've read is Dao Teh Ching as well as badly translated instructions for flat pack furniture.

I recently read the unabridged Journey to the West; it was long, episodic, and very confusing without a good reference to Chinese deities.

I probably found more enjoyment in reading Confucius, Mencius, or Chuang Tzu.

No kidding. I opened up this six hundred page tome and then looked at the 8 point .5 spaced font and said "another time."

If I can find a translation to English or French I'd be happy to try and read this since everyone seems to think it's good.
