I'm completely sure this has been discussed before, but it's been a long time since I last watched the show. I sat down with my nephew (anime zombie in the making) to watch OP the other day, and holy crap, the dub hugely better than the crap being done a few years back. What happened?

The company who originally produced the American dub of One Piece was 4Kids, and they no longer have the rights. As of a few months ago, FUNimation are the new American licensee, and are producing a dub which is more like the industry standard. It's not as badly censored, and there aren't any pointless changes.

In this sub-forum, it's already pretty well known by OP fans.

Although the name changes(like Zolo) are still in the TV version dub. However on DVD it will be uncut with the original names. FUNi isn't going cheap.

The FUNimation dub is, hands down, THE best dub I have ever watched.

^After watching the 4kids dub, I find your feelings to be quite understandable.

Zolo? What kinda name is this?? They should never change any names. Let's hope that they're not going cheap. We'll see.

Why exactly was it that they're using Zolo for the TV airing and are using Zoro for the DVD version? Is this just Toei being stupid again and forcing things on the American companies? Why would they have to use Zolo for TV and be allowed to use Zoro for DVD?

I do believe Toei was involved, just seems like something they'd request to be done.

Well the reason they use Zolo for the TV release is so people that watched 4Kids version wouldn't be confused. Its stupid, which is why I really think Toei is to blame. I'm just glad FUNi actually cares & releases the dub uncut on DVD.

Its not going cheap-_-; Because they are making two dubs(uncut & cut). If they used the edit dub for the DVDs then that would be cheap.

Zolo "What kinda name is this?"? It could be much worse, at least they used the name that sounds similar to Zoro in Japanese. They didn't change his name to Zack or something.

^LMFAO yeah i hate when names get changed to English ones

Imagine if they changed the names to Luke, Zack, Nancey, Sam, Udolf and err..Robin, Chopper and Franky would remain unchanged
