View Full Version : The Superbowl

Well the kickoff is at 6:30 tonight. So if you ARE watching it tonight, who are you rooting for? Also, are you going to a Superbowl party?
Even if someone doesn't pay much attention to football (if at all), a lot of times someone will still watch the Superbowl. Which is like me.

Patriots. My Dad is an obsessive New Englander...in New York. Party's at my house, since we have a widescreen....that's pretty much it. Since it's a party with a lot of liquor this year (yeano), I'll probably be spiteful and keep to myself in my room, using the game as BG noise while I do work. Of course, my interest will pique while the commercials are on...and maybe the end of the 4th quarter.

I want the Giants to win. They have a disadvatage, but I don't care. And I'm going to a party over my dad's friend's house.
btw, a Patriots fan in NY is nothing. The wost possible scenario is someone being a Cowboys fan and living in Philly, but that would never happen because someone that stupid would win a Darwin Award VERY quickly.

I may or may not be able to bring myself to actually watch it. I'm rooting for the Giants, but I've abandoned almost all hope. My best hope is that the Giants have the ball, down one, and are set up for a last second kick. That scenario would be beautiful, and I would be happy with either outcome. (yes, i do happen to be a Bills fan)

I'm hosting a Superbowl party, and rooting for the Giants. I'm a New Yorker(even though the only REAL NY team is the Bills), so it's only natural.
I've got tons of food, a pool (as in betting, not swimming :D), and poppers, noisemakers, decorations, etc.
Also, Tom Petty is playing half time. :D

I'm rooting for the Patriots only because I'm interested in seeing them go 19-0, but really I don't care, since I don't have a favorite NFL team. The Giants have a chance, since they came close in the final week, and they've improved since.
I'll have the game on, don't know how much of it I'll actually pay attention to.

I'm unfortunately stuck in Las Vegas right now [/sarcasm]. I'm going to a party at my boss's house for the game today, but I'm heading over to a sports book to throw some cash down on the game. Probably gonna drop money on the Pats to win but going to probably bet across the board on little, stupid stuff to hopefully see some return, rather than just the novelty for fun.

That's why I love superbowl commercials. It's like what Lewis Black said...they're big, bold, epic and so well produced, and half the time you don't even know what they are selling.
For example, two bunnies are skipping down a yellow brick road. 10 minutes later, one of the bunnies hang themselves. After that, a caption pops up on the screen that says "buy a bike."

I don't think 35 seconds is enough for anybody to work with to call them a choke artist if they lose. He brought them down for a game winning drive. Its just that Eli was able to return the favor.

wow. you all take that term way too seriously and literally. obviously the team choked but who will they be talking about on ESPN? Brady. why? 'cause he played like crap. the quarterback always takes the heat unless a receiver drops an easy catch or a corner falls down in a critical situation or something.
biggest game of Brady's career thus far; perfect season and super bowl on the line and Mr. three-time super bowl champ, MVP shows up with his head in the dirt. their defense didn't do much either. i'm not putting down the Giants and i'm not saying Brady sucks but c'mon....the patriots came out flat and choked. it's as simple as that.
needless to say this loss won't define Brady's career. i'm sure he will win one or two more super bowls but this will definitely be remembered. i hate Eli but i have to admit, he was pretty clutch.

who leads the offense? some MVP three-time super bowl champ or something if i'm not mistaken. without a QB there is no offense. anyway the defense blew it as well. no matter who your captains are, a QB has to lead his team and Brady just didn't do it, or didn't do it well enough to beat the giants....after they already beat them earlier in the season.
maybe it was over-confidence and when the giants showed up to play; that and the "pressure" situation was too much. who knows. either way it wasn't the Tom Brady from those other super bowls, or the 18-0 Patriots that came to play.

So yes, they did cheat. I wouldn't know until I watched it last night because I don't pay attention to football.

Refs were fair, as a HUGE Giants fan I can say i actually liked the refs this time, they let us play, they called less penalties but thats a good thing.
they COULD have called a Offensive PI that they didn't againts Toomer on his catch, they also could have blown the Eli to Tyree play dead when Eli was in the hands of Adialius Thomas but they didn't
there was alot of Minor Penalties on both sides they went free...but thats how it supposed to be for the Super Bowl....let them play, don't ruin it with officiating left and right...only call it when it REALLY needs to be called.
And to those who say the Pats lost it, thats not exactly True, everyone looks at Tom Brady and Randy Moss and the skill positions, everyone forgets the MOST important part of football, the Trenches the Line of Scrimage, we won on the line....Defense and Offense, their Skill position players might be better, but we won were it counts, we had constant pressure on Brady all game long, and he's just not used to that, and Eli had time to find receivers most of the game...thats why the GIANTS won the game, it had nothing to do with the Pats losing the game.....the better TEAM won.

I agree to this, even if the Pats won, the Giants put up a brutal defencive line, they were all over Brady the entire game. I was wondering how the Giants would stop poudning Brady and the rest of the pats and actually get ahead of the Pats, (when the game was at 7-3) I was thinking, "are the Giants really going to push it back till the end and let the pats win?" The Giants had total control over the field.

as far as an undefeated season is concerned, yes, the '72 dolphins alone still hold that achievement 17-0. then again, going on this fact alone one can easily debate their greatness relative to the pats. the patriots did go 17-0, then 18-0 and of course blew their last game. let it be said that these patriots could arguably be the best team ever. it is possible to justified this by comparing the two teams' seasons. technically, up until the super bowl, the pats had a better record than the dolphins at 18-0. but everyone will always come back with the failure to win the super bowl. its because of this fact that they will never truly be called the greatest but i think it's enough to shake the '72 dolphins' pedestal.
P.S. it should have been the chargers vs. the giants in the "big game". this thread wouldn't even exist and everyone would be better off. SD>NY+NE :P

When I went on the train, the conductor announced how awesome the Giants were at every stop. Everyone was wearing a Giants jersey, and talking about how great last night's game was.
Although I think a lot of it is bandwagon fans, it is still nice to see. Business types were wearing jerseys to work it was cool.

as far as an undefeated season is concerned, yes, the '72 dolphins alone still hold that achievement 17-0. then again, going on this fact alone one can easily debate their greatness relative to the pats. the patriots did go 17-0, then 18-0 and of course blew their last game. let it be said that these patriots could arguably be the best team ever. it is possible to justified this by comparing the two teams' seasons. technically, up until the super bowl, the pats had a better record than the dolphins at 18-0. but everyone will always come back with the failure to win the super bowl. its because of this fact that they will never truly be called the greatest but i think it's enough to shake the '72 dolphins' pedestal.
P.S. it should have been the chargers vs. the giants in the "big game". this thread wouldn't even exist and everyone would be better off. SD>NY+NE :P
you can't argue that this NE patriots team is the best of all time because this years Giants team is obviously better, the super bowl is the is the biggest game of the year, every year who ever wins that is "The Best" team....therefore the pats can't be the best ever if there is a team this year that was better then them. :P

East Rutherford NJ to be exact. My grandmother lived in Secaucus just accross the river from the stadium. Just a two block hike from the house you could see the stadium which was only about a 10 minute drive.
Everybody will be parading around Jersey and New York for a little while. Then it will be like when the Rangers won. They celebrated then started acting like *******s to eachother again:lol:

But they were pushing for the Jets to get their own stadium. Last I heard they were gonna play accross the street from Giants Stadium?
East Rutherford is one big marshland area. Hardly any houses. I think they have an airport. There's the Ramada where Chiller Theater used to be held and I think the Fishermans Warf. They would have enough room for another stadium I think.

The new Stadium in NY is again going to be sharded and its a Fing B**** to park now because of the construction, i went too 3 games this year and it was tough, they are building it like literally a 5 min walk from The parkinglot across the street...hard too explain suffice it too say very close.

I didn't even know it was Super Bowl Sunday until I saw the scores on Monday. I was wondering why the movie theater was so empty.
(and I'm proud to say that I haven't seen a Super Bowl in over 15 years, and the total number I've watched can be counted on one hand with some fingers left over. Every sport holds zero interest for me.)
