Alright, so how many members here have watched or are planning on watching Choujuu Kishin Dancouga (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2255)?

This has got to be one of the best super robot shows I've seen to date. The main characters, Shinobu, Sara, Masato and Ryo are all likable and all have their distinct personalities, which makes them really enjoyable to watch. The supporting cast, especially General Igor, Dr. Hazuki and the Black Knight, are well developed and given good amounts of screen time, especially as the series progress. The villains, the Muge Zorbados Empire are also well done, but the primary antagonist throughout most of the series is Shapiro Keats, who is portrayed perfectly by Norio Wakamoto, and is well developed and likable antagonist.

The mecha are of course, awesome. The CBF Vehicles are pretty effective on their own, but in Beast form, they're damn strong, and these see use throughout the series. The humanoid modes aren't seen as much, but are also useful in certain combat situations. And of course, combined they create Dancouga, an extremely powerful super robot that gets by on a massive gun and martial arts.

The series is 38 episodes long, and was released on VHS in America at one point, but fansubs are available. There are also 3 Sequel OVAs, Requiem for Victims, God Bless Dancouga and Hakunetsu no Shusho.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loves the super robot genre, especially some of the stuff from the 80's.

Yeah, this is one of the classic supers I need to go watch all of, but it has to wait until I'm finished with Ideon and Zambot-3.

I love it. It's really one of my favourites too, and I just don't understand why it never got licensed for DVD release. Although there are subs available online for the TV series and for the first two OVA, I don't know of any subbed release for Hakunetsu no Shuushou, the final four-part OVA which wrapped up the storyline.

Huh. I just noticed MAL doesn't have an entry for the Dancougar OVA other than Requiem For Victims.

I'm currently creating an entry for God Bless Dancouga as I post.

I took one look at the character designs and recoiled in horror.

Aside from the name and a few plot elements, they're not even related. Dancouga Nova was good for killing some boredom for a few hours, that's about it. If you like seeing hot chicks piloting flashy super robots blowing things up, you'll like it enough, maybe.

No way... I never knew CPM ever released this series onto VHS. It's a shame they never released it on DVD. Now I'll try to track this show down somewhere... I only saw the first episode or two about 14 years ago, via a friend's fansub tape collection. I liked it, but I saw it about the time I was getting burned out on anime in the mid to late 90's, before I developed a love/hate relationship with anime.

I have volume 1-5, 7-8 on VHS. So I'm only missing volume 6. I only watched a few episodes so far, would prefer to have it all before I really start.

I'd love to come across some of the old VHS tapes for Dancouga, I'd buy them in a second (assuming they weren't really expensive), somehow, I imagine they're pretty hard to find now, though, and Dancouga doesn't seem like the type of show to attract a DVD release in the US at all, sadly.

I now have the complete VHS collection, been collecting it for over a year-_-; I wasn't really determined though, just whenever I saw a good price I'd buy some.

I know this is an older message. But, I just love classic robot anime. Whether it be Super Robot or Real Robot.

I love Dancouga! I saw the series and the OAV Requiem of Victims quite awhile ago. I've not seen the newer Dancouga Nova though. Levon, you are lucky to have the whole show on VHS. That's like treasure to keep for sure!

Oh, my favourite characters from the original Dancouga are Sara Yuki and Luna Rossa! I also like the build up and the suspense to see how Dancouga (the robot itself) would be like. In a way. It's a somewhat unique show because the robot doesn't appear right away.

Btw, it's a shame that there are so many great shows from the 1970's and 1980's that most people haven't seen. It's too bad that most anime fans nowadays don't seem to care about classic shows. Oh well.

I'm glad to see there are some people here that do. Even if this is a rather old message.

I could go on about other classic robot anime shows that I love and that I wish were released here in the US. :)
