Ummm... if the mosaic is a part of the original animation, how do you propose to "remove" it? You'd be asking the computer to draw what wasn't originally there.

The mosaic isn't like some kind of overlay, is it? It's not something you can just switch on and off, like subtitles.

Better plan: Buy uncensored hentai.

There are apparently optical devices for sale in Japan which partially de-mosaic the censorship, but I have no idea where to get one, and the price is likely to be high.

I never seen software, only hardwares and they don't work too well either. If the pricess are still anywhere near the same and for a decent one, they cost like 30,000yen.

There used to be all kinds of software you could get to remove the mosaic from still images, but it rarely worked. The mosaic had to be done with a specific program that your decensoring program counteracted. The most common forms of mosaic censorship on still images can not be removed.

I'm not familiar with methods of removing the mosaic censorship from videos.

thank you for understanding my situation chance (tears of joy). this is in fact the reason why i need a decensoring sofware to be able to watch with greatness the censored hentai. this matter bugs me so much that i just can't stand watching and just imagine the censored part. this issue does not only apply to hentai animes. even some descent anime have censored part in them that needs removal eg. Kodomo no Jikan and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. there are parts in this anime that are censored and i need to remove it to be able to understand the story.

i hope someone out there can me out. tnx guys

i learned of one software. it's called G-mask but it only works on pictures though and i haven't really tried it myself. i hope there's someone out there that can help.

I mentioned before that there are a number of different programs to dencensor still images. The catch is, there are several different methods of censoring images and each program is specific to the original form of censorship.

I still have a copy of ByeByeBlue for the Mac that decensors that awful, blocky looking, blue censorship you might sometimes see. It's the only one I've ever gotten to work reliably.

I have no experience with methods of dencensoring video. Sorry.

I saw this post on Adult DVD Talk and it reminded me of this thread. It's about live-action hentai, but he does talk about computers decensoring videos which is the topic of this thread. The original poster was netmonkey and I'm just copying and pasting what he wrote (sans links):

ALL Japanese porn (AV) is produced without censorship... the cameras don't magically add mosaics. That's done later. So potentially, any movie might be available, but in reality, most studios are locked up tight.

There's UNCENSORED (NO MOSAIC) and DECENSORED (MOSAIC REMOVED) Japanese AV.

DECENSORED involves stripping the mosaic via computer and is only possible in cases where the method for applying the mosaic is known. These titles can be low-quality and evidence of the mosaic can often still be seen. May also be referred to as "decoded" or other terms.

UNCENSORED films are sold outside Japan often through third party companies and are full quality. This is growing, and there's lots of good stuff - i.e. the entire Kokeshi and Kokeshi Cowgirl series is available uncensored, as are many others.

The problem is, many companies haven't bothered to make deals for outside distribution. Also, a lot of stuff perfectly legal in Japan won't make it past American censors, or, when there are US versions released, they're butchered (House of Gommora - Night Nurses Gone Wild was one brutal hack job for example). Harder JAV titles have a lot of SM/Bondage/watersports etc. scenes.

The mosaic now needs to censor only male and female genitals, in the past few years pubic hair became fair game, and the anus need not be censored, although some companies will censor anal penetration with toys - but recently many have dropped this practice... and yeah smaller producers are pushing the envelope.

oh and ironically, animal genitalia need not be censored, only human, and bestiality flicks are legal in Japan... so it's a-OK to show a chick blowing a dog, just not a human without the mosaic.

lol, that was so jokes. the censorship was actually part of the humor making it funny by making us think that that action caused Youhie's face to disfigure. well, it will if it happens in real life. but that was indeed hilarious.
