Honestly, is this a good series? Because people always say it is, and I've seen the first...3 episodes!
I'm considering buying the entire series from my friend, so is it worth it?

It was worth it for me since i can pull off a near perfect costume of Ed, got the long blonde hair but i'm too tall for Ed. really I liked it as a series, it has a lot of good plot and character development. FMA is what launched me into another level of otakudom as well.

Having read about seven or eight volumes of the manga and seen the first few episodes of the anime, I'm inclined to say that it is a great anime. Not a bad shounen, though I've read/watched better, but a great anime nonetheless.

It's one of the better SJ series out there. I want the whole series myself.
And if it makes me cry, it's good.

What interests me was the 7 Deadly Sins thing. I caugt like an episode with Lust Gluttony and ...Envy?? And maybe Wrath too.
And I was like hmm WOAH!

Sure it's great.
If you like it when people take a dump on your face and in your ears.

Would you have honestly preferred a half assed Claymore type ending to what Bones did?

Fullmetal Alchemist is an outstading series. I think labeling it "shonen" is doing the series a great disservice. FMA is second only to Eva as my all time favourite anime. The manga is fantastic, too - but it's not a patch on the anime!

FMA isn't Shonen Jump, it was serialised in Square Enix's Shonen Gangan, I think.

Yes, it was indeed serialized in Shounen Gangan. Also, if you don't think it's shounen, you're either blind or stupid. Not an insult, but it's pretty much shounen without a doubt. It's like saying Claymore isn't shounen.

Crow-kun, what is so bad about the anime? I know it's not like the manga in the long run, but out of all the anime series that end differently than the manga, FMA did the best at it, you gotta admit that much.

I think its a pretty good series, I could only watch it in the summer, and I didn't see the whole series, but I liked it.

Its consistently being voted as the greatest anime of all time by the Japanese, as well as being japan's favourite animehttp://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2006-10-13/japan's-favorite-tv-anime
Whilst these polls are by no means definitive, i'd definitely recommend it to you.

It's actually pretty good. It was in my top three for a while, until I saw Welcome to the NHK (which is infinitely better, even though the two genres are COMPLETELY different).
I recommend it, definately. It's more than likely my favorite Shounen series of all time, though One Piece and DBZ will always have a place higher do to the 'classic' factor.

Well it's a slow start to the anime - it took a long time to warm up to.
I suppose it did get better at the end and great soundtrack.

I really loved this show. The movie was a bit of a let down for me though. However I heard the new season of the show is disregarding it. Hopefully it lives up to the first series.

Ive watched the first full metal alchemist series, and loved it! However, this new series was a stab in the back with a really thick sword with small rusty spikes. I mean why are they making the same series again with a different outcome, this is the worst. They could of found a way to continue on with the original story. The humor is the same, it just felt like a letdown for someone foreshadowing a great continuation. I don't know, I'll still watch it since I'm a fan..buuut

I don't agree. Also, you shouldn't judge the remake so soon. Give it time to diverge from the original and see where it goes. You might be surprised.

If it goes anywhere near the manga I would rather watch MD Giest and Judge.

Only retards judge **** that's two episodes old. I mean, there's barely anything to judge at this point. But whatever, be my guest.

I think your missing the point here... I could care less if this new series is 10 times better than the first series. The fact is that they ditched the old storyline, and made this ripoff story. I don't want to see characters that should be dead in another story, I find this a complete letdown.

I just am flabberghasted that certain people will insist it is the comic equal of King Lear, Macbeth, and Henry V rolled into one when all it is is a overlong 50's comic like Strange Tales only even less plausible and even more poorly written.

Do you want me to ruin the great plot about what father is doing? The Ed Woodean plot that basically turns anything up to that point into a cliche bad overlong movie serial from the 30's? Or are you still delusional enough to try to defend it because you have devoted years pretending your tiny glass house is a giant luxurious mansion made of stone that you are afraid to admit it's made of glass as everything you tried to make it become shatters around you?

Yes you do, you just think it's great because you keep lying to yourself after 2 plus years of ranting how great the manga is. The manga went from meh to WTF pile of **** when they revealed "Fadurs evul planz". Utter utter garbage, it's like the ending of Dallas and St Elsewhere rolled into one with a side of My Mother the Car.

No you are it is not a comparison you bascially have Dante (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L__lJLqwTSQ) motivated by purley selfish reasons vs Fadur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cE1fzfOogo) the not Persian test tube who is Hoenheim but not Hoenheim craps out magic stones from his forehead to make monsters while sitting on his magic soul powered toilet that makes him immune to alchemy unless it is ethnic alchemy because ethnic people are funny and different.
Now we have one villain who simply wants to continue existing but in doing so has erroded her soul to such point that she thinks she is god VS Mr Magic Potty who suffers from Gorilla Grod Syndrome. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0O5OPlDXGg)

You're wasting your time with Crow-kun. He hates FMA anime. It's like the worst anime ever made in his opinion and you will never be able to change that or convince him that there is a single good thing about it.
He hates it to the point that you wonder why he even bothers coming into the FMA forums if the show is honestly that much of a turn off. It's similar to someone who hates Star Wars going to starwars.com and posting nothing but "Star Wars is teh sucks" in the forum there. Eventually you recognize that the person is a troll and you either accept it and ignore him or you keep getting riled up, which is exactly what he wants.
PS, notice how everyone else in the thread totally ignored what he said and acted like it had never even been posted.

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0O5OPlDXGg)What point are you trying to make with Father's original form being a crude homunculus? So he made a body that looked like Hohenheim's out of respect for being the reason he exist. What's the problem? The eye was clearly a nod to him being connected to the gate and alchemy. Eyes have been popping up in Fullmetal for ever. There was one in the damn gate. It's funny you mention Gorilla Grod Syndrome. Dante = turning everyone into stones vs Father = Using people as sacrifices to open gate. Hell neither of them sound like a Gorilla Grod plot. What the hell point are you trying to make? Father isn't trying to turn people into anything for some utopia he just wants to kill them. Again with the damn throne? That all it is a damn throne who cares what the hell it does. You seem to really hate this thing. Could you point to where it touched you? http://weblog.sinteur.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/spiritually-correct-doll.jpg
See I can use pictures of random crap too. Yes, he is immune to western alchemy, he freaking created it. Yes he isn't immune to eastern alchemy for one he didn't even know another another method existed. That's all there is to it. Chick wanting to continue exist ------> Guy who built a country from the ground up for years for the sole purpose of destroying for his own selfish ambition.

Your whole post is completely ironic because everything you just typed applies to him as well. And how the hell does it compare to your Star Wars example. Last time I checked this section was called Fullmetal Alchemist. Last time I checked there is a manga and anime with the same title. People talk about the manga and anime of series in the other sub forums. Maybe if you used Star Wars Movies vs Cartoon you may have even had a your foot in the door but you didn't so shove off brown noser.
And by the way I liked the star wars cartoon(the first one) more then the movies. Not a fan of the cg one. Want to fight about it?

Because he is giving an opinion on the anime having read the manga. That is the most valuable opinion you can get on FMA since both anime series are based on the manga.
Your problem seems to be that he is talking nothing but negative stuff on the FMA anime. But do remember that fans of the manga are going to have a strong opinion on the anime, especially when the anime still isn't following the manga closely enough even though we were promised a more closer adaption of the manga.
