In kiki's delivery service there isn't anyone ugly. But I agree that there is always something about flying and the bad guys turn out to be okay in the end so that's also correct.

I was considering about putting something along the lines of the 'no bad guy thing' too. Howl's moving castle gave me pause though. But looking back on it, I think you're right. Well, I guess that makes it my turn.... hmmmm....
Where does the name Ghibli come from, what does it mean?
ladyshiro
January 4th, 2008, 01:54 PM
its italian
I think it meaning is saharan scouting planes
Blue Thunder
January 5th, 2008, 09:41 PM
You are indeed wise in the ways of Ghibli. There was an italian scouting plane by that name. The name also means hot wind from the sahara, from which that plane get's it's name, and Studio Ghibli was like a fresh breeze to the anime industry when it started.
Your turn.

Yes, the first version of the ending was considered too hum-drum by producer Toshio Suzuki. Subsequently, on a train ride with Suzuki, Miyazaki came up with the idea of killing Eboshi. However, this idea never made it to the new, extended ending. A shame in some ways!
So what happens now, do I ask another question?

Based upon the book of the same title, the story was different than the animated one. Instead of being raised by a Mononoke, the main character was forced to marry one. It has been compared to Beauty and the Beast.

I'll provide you with this answer.
The backdrop was a fictional European country and/or countryside that was influenced from visits to Stockholm, Adelaide, South Australia and the Swedish island of Gotland. In addition, there was some architectural influence in his designs from Ireland, Paris and Toky's' Ginza district.
I'm sure there is an answer to you question somewhere in there. :)

Correct here is a artical from Wikipedia
USA - According to an announcement made by Pixar and Disney executives after the Howl's Moving Castle premiere in 2005, plans to release Only Yesterday in the US have been "shelved indefinitely". Though no real details were given for the shelving, some commentators have speculated that Disney felt that the film was incompatible with Disney's image as a producer of family films (the film includes a family bathing scene set in a bathhouse, and a scene in which schoolchildren immaturely discuss menstruation), and were worried that its release might attract negative attention. Nevertheless, many fans have petitioned for a DVD release in the United States.
Grave Yard of the Fireflies is another that they do not plan to release.

Yes they do have a english dubb of Grave of the Fireflies so did Totoro but they redid it which I believe the original dubbs of Grave and Totoro were fine.
but disney had planned on bring over all of Ghibli's films so pretty much they are going back on their word.

The dub for Grave of the Fireflies was to celebrate the domestic dvd release because there was only a subbed version available for the longest time. The two versions from CPM, like yourself, I have no problem with.
I miss Totoro's original English dub.
I don't feel it necessary for Disney to bring over everything Ghibli and dub it with an all star cast. Some of the content would not be appropriate for the target demographic. If another company picks up Only Yesterday, then so be it. I'm actually more interested in the Japanese dialogue anyway.

Name some differences between Nausicaa in the anime and the manga.
in the anime Tolmekia in the manga it is Torumekia.
in the manga Lord Yupa traveled with Asbel and Ketcha in the early parts of the manga. Dies protecting Kushana from the vengeful Mani Tribe.
In the anime there is nothing about the Doroks and using the mould as a weapon.
There were alot of differences in plot, with more factions, locations and characters appearing in the manga version of the story. There is also much more background detail, and the environmentalist tone is more developed.
The manga includes a lot more philosophical content than the film. Nausicaä explores the concepts of fatalistic Nihilism and the Gaia philosophy and struggles with the militarism of major powers.
The movie roughly corresponds to the first two books of the manga.

Let me know if these are the answers you seek...
Their aunt is a cruel woman who treats the two youngsters like a heavy burden. Her attitude toward them is very poor...for someone who is supposed to be a supportive family member.
In order to get more rice, doesn't she take the clothes and belongings of the mother and sell them?

Source (http://everything2.com/title/Howl%2527s%2520Moving%2520Castle)
There are a number of differences between the book and the movie, perhaps the biggest being that while the book is set in a pre-industrial fairytale-type setting, the movie is in a Victorian steampunk setting. There is also a terrible war raging, with bombs dropping and monsters flying through the sky. The movie also cuts out the black door leading to an alternate universe (probably a good thing). Instead it leads to the past and future (probably a bad thing). Other major differences include: Howl regularly transforms into a giant flying feathered monster; Sophie has no magic; wizard Suliman also takes on the role of Mrs. Pentstemmon (Howl's old teacher), and is a woman, and is bad; the witch of the waste isn't particularly bad, in the end.

What distinction does that anime have as compared to all previous Ghibli films?
ladyshiro
October 24th, 2008, 08:40 PM
The movie is a family comedy that is presented in a comic strip style which is unusual since all the other Studio Ghibli movies are presented in the anime style.
Takahata wanted Yamada-kun to have the art style of watercolor pictures rather than cel pictures. To achieve that, the traditional paint-on-cel techniques were replaced with digital technology, making Yamada-kun the first Ghibli movie to be painted and animated entirely on computers.

Sorry it took so long
Disney's Miramax subsidiary purchased U.S. distribution rights, but wanted to cut the film for American audiences (and for a PG-rating). However, Miyazaki balked at this, and the film was instead released uncut with a rating of PG-13. Miramax also chose to put a lot of money into creating the English dub of the movie with famous actors and actresses, yet when they released it in theatres there was little or no advertising and it was given a very limited run, showing in only a few theatres and for a very short time. Disney later complained about the fact that the movie did not do well at the box office. In September of 2000, the film was supposed to be released on DVD in the U.S., but Miramax announced that only the English dub would be included on the disc. Outraged fans demanded the Japanese track be put on the disc as well, and the threat of poor sales prompted Miramax to hire translators for the subtitles, which held the DVD release back by almost three months. When the film was finally released on DVD it sold very well, due to no limitation in availability.

What was the name of the boar in the beginning of Princess Mononoke and what happened to him before he came to Ashtaka's village?

Nago was his name and he was a God. He was shot or something because had something inside of him, and the humans were taking over the forest. Thus his rage.
Hey guys I'm new...haven't been to the series specific section in years. :D

Hmmmm.....
Princess Mononoke is my favorite movie, but just tochange it up, I'll ask one about my second favorite...it's not Mayazaki but still Ghibli:
Grave of the Fireflies:
What is the significance of the candy tin, especially in the opening scenes?

It's all right by me and more importantly, Lady allows it.

Ask whatever you want...the more challenging, the better. Sometimes lady's questions go unanswered for days or weeks.
The significance is that it seemed to have the soul of Setsuko inside (during the opening scenes). Throughout the movie, it was her special keepsake from her brother that remained with her until her death.

Yeah, My question might have already been asked I don't remember. If it has it's alright think of it as a review question then.
Also on the current question the tin also had Setsuko's ashes in it. Tetsuo put them in there after Setsuko was cremated.

It's no big thing i guess. Nothing wrong with review :)
About the ashes: I was thinking about that when I answered but couldn't remember if they were in it. We'll have to wait and see what the verdict is...

Oh I have to give a verdict? :D
You were both right, but since Kabuki got it first I guess they go?
