I agree with the Roronoa Zoro. He actually made it to the top of my 'favorite anime character ever' list. Also on my One Piece list are:

From what I have read in the manga so far, my favorite character is Sanji. He is always end up presenting himself in a cool way, such as when he show up later calling himself Mr. Prince and save the rest of the crew in Alabasta arc, or when he unexpectedly using knife against Wanze and preaching Wanze about food and all. Sometimes, he can be a strategist too, which is another reason why I like him the most, followed by Nami as my second favorite character in this series. ^o^

Eh... the problem I have with Sanji, is that his statements lack the sheer power that Zoro and Luffy's tend to have. He went down about 5 points on the 'cool scale' after this quote, I feel.

I'm going to have to go with Roronoa Zoro, the man is just awesome and crazy and never gives up. He uses three swords, one in his mouth! That just takes crazy skill.

He's followed closely by Luffy, the lovable main character. His antics are humorous all around, and when in battle, he has a tenacity and a will to win like no other.

That being said, One Piece has one of the best casts I've witnessed in anime, so it's really difficult to choose.

For me the best character was Zoro And Luffy just like majority of this thread answered because there skills are way too cool with the sword skills of Zoro it's almost impossible to beat him in his way of fighting and Of course the Luffy the captain of the ship who fights for his crew with his power of rubber plus the determination to be down every opponent that stands in his way. ^_^

Zoro, Mihawk, Shanks and Sanji for the win.

Zoro and Mihawk kinda go together, both are cool albeit in completely different ways. Mihawk in the sinister and mysterious way, Zoro a more straightforward and hotblooded way. Strong swordsmen always work for me as cool characters.

Shanks is just too damn cool, he's not that strong since he lost his arm, but the way he lost it just makes him a guy you have to love. Also his attitude is awesome. I kinda wish he was still at full strength considering he was once Mihawk's rival, but hey... he's cool no matter how you cut it.

Sanji is that guy who always seems relaxed and laid back, even when he's kicking ***. He's casual, he's a ladies man and he's got a great backstory. Gotta love him. I honestly don't even know if he or Zoro is my favourite Straw Hat pirate.

Good wallpaper. I've got to say that I agree with the last two posts. If I were making a longer list, Chopper and Nami would both be on it. So would some of the other folks mentioned here. The thing about One Piece is that it would seriously be a shorter list if I mentioned the ones I don't like. That's really rare with a cast of recurring characters this big.

Hmm. Well he has grown on me to the point where I no longer keep on wishing they'd write him out of the show... but I still consider him my least favourite main character and pretty near the bottom of the list if I include all the recurring characters.

Recent developments in the Water 7 arc are finally making him more interesting, though. At this rate he still could redeem himself in the coolness ratings before I'm caught up.

I guess it's cheap because they don't need to write anything new, or hell... in some cases even animate anything new. Plus it's 'safe filler' because it doesn't run the risk of accidentally contradicting future canon developments.

After Robin, 2 quite jokey, silly characters join, and I kind of find myslef wishing the next crew member is gonna be serious. I love all the messing around as much as anyone, but now its starting to feel as if messing around is the only thing they do anymore. Also, wait until CP9 saga.

Roronoa Zoro - Has the best fight theme in the Anime and gives me goosebumps whenever he performs one of his insane sword techniques. Also a solid bad-***, as shown in his fights with Mihawk and Kuma. He's also the most loyal member of the Strawhat Pirates.

Monkey D. Luffy - I like him not only because he's the main character, but because he's so childish and fun-loving and has the guts to stand against anyone no matter how strong. He also has a cool fighting style.

Boa Hancock - A female shichibukai in love with Luffy. It's refreshing. She's hot and she can fight and she has hilarious reactions. Some of her earliest moments with Luffy as both enemy and ally are among my favourites.

I've always been a fan of Zoro. As powerful as he is without any DF at all takes a lot of dedication and his attitude in general is just something I find myself attracted to as opposed to Luffy or Sanji or the other SH crew.

I'm also beginning to like Law, but don't know enough about him yet to really get into his character.

After seeing recent episodes, I have to say my favorite antagonist has to be Kuma, taking down the strawhats 2 times. If ever a villain were to embody the "hero-killer" it'd be Kuma. Aokiji and The light guy are close seconds and thirds but neither instilled the fear in Luffy's crew that Kuma did.

As for heroes i'd probably have to go with either Luffy or Zoro, or if i wanted to branch out past luffy's crew, bepo bear in law's crew lol. "Are there any female bears here?" "NO!"

I've watched a few hundred by now and I still like Zoro the best and still find Luffy a great character too. I find the entire Straw Hat pirate crew likable to some extent. Some more than others of course. I find Sanji, Franky and Brook to be among my favourites. Tony-Tony Chopper has moments of awesome and Nami I can either love or be indifferent to depending on the scene - her characterisation is not always consistent, I feel.

A lot of the character I enjoy watching the most are the ones we didn't see much of, and who in some cases probably won't be back. I love Mr. Two, Bon Kurei. It's impossible for him to be on screen without me laughing. I really enjoyed the episodes with Tom, the shipwright and Doctor Hilluruk. I had a great time watching the Little Garden arc because of Dorry and Broggy.

I enjoyed every minute of Monkey D. Garp's appearances, loved to hate God Enel, and last but by no means least I simply can't get enough of Red-Headed Shanks. He's such an incredibly awesome character, and HE IS A CHAR. :D

Apologies must go to all those characters I loved and forgot to mention. They are many, and varied. This series is so great. I notice that this is my second post in the threat, and Zoro is still way up there... as is Sanji. They hold the top spots in the Straw Hat crew, and in the overall rankings as far as I'm concerned.

The main difference now is that with so many badass antagonist characters, Mihawk doesn't quite stand out anymore. Also God Enel happened and set a new baseline for awesome badassery among One Piece antagonists.
