View Full Version : More people need to buy hentai.

As ridiculous as the prices are, if you don't buy the hentai series you enjoy most there will come a day when the only kind of hentai you'll see will be censored (and very likely left untranslated). I've been watching hentai for about a decade now and I've noticed that recently there are less and less US releases because of all the piracy.
Granted I'm a bigger fan of hentai manga, but this is still an issue I care about because the hentai market is significantly smaller than the already small anime market, so sales are even more important. People have to realize this.

I thought the reason we're getting less hentai is because of reverse importing.

I think it's both, more on reverse importing though

I only buy series that I feel have rewatch value. In the case of hentai, I dont even see that it has watch value, much less rewatch value.
I'd imagine that reverse importing is a larger issue, though.

I wonder why they release all the crap Hentai over here and leave out the amazing titles. When they constantly release cheap garbage while ignoring titles like taimamin asagi you have to start to wonder.

Reverse Importing is the bigger issue due to cost per disk. The average one episode disk in Japan averages 5000 - 7000 Yen. The average similar disk in the US will sell for anywhere from $15US - $25US, and is uncensored to boot.

I, too, find it sad how so many good titles aren't making it here, and a lot of what's coming out is "same old, same old".
I don't buy something unless I like it. All the ero titles I have listed in my signature, for instance, are titles I've bought, plan to buy, or will buy if they get an R1 release.
I'd rather encourage companies to make more good material by only buying quality than buy regardless of quality like some fans do.

Isn't this another version of "you have to buy every anime in stores or you're not supporting the industry" argument?
I don't have to buy anything. I won't buy generic crap at any rate, and that's what 85% of the hentai on the market is. Maybe if higher-quality titles were brought to North America I'd purchase more, but nobody needs more stupid-school-girl-got-blackmailed cluttering up their shelf. This isn't Pokemon. You don't gotta catch 'em all...

I don't mind censored hentai, the Japanese live with it and so can I. Also the stuff would still be translated even if it was left censored (it already is being).
I'd never pay for fapping material, because that's all it really is to me. I'm not hurting anything by pirating, because I'd kill myself before PAYING MONEY to view animated sex.
You really don't need anything to fap but your damn imagination, but I'd be perfectly fine without h-anime and with only doujins & real porn anyway, so this thread doesn't reach me at all.

So then I wouldn't call myself a "fan". I'm not saying someone who downloads Anime and Hentai isn't a fan as long as they at least buy their most favorite stuff later on when it's available on their market if they can afford it (most "pirates" I know COULD afford it but don't get the point why they SHOULD). But that discussion is old and I get angry over it (after the downfall of Geneon and stuff like that... even more), so for something different :
I live in Europe, Germany, and it is quite difficult to get Hentaidvds here because the stuff that gets released is technically low quality (looks worse than a 200 MB DL sometimes) and importing is difficult because of the customs- though we got a new company called Pink Lemon that delievers Hentai in a way that it is interesting for collectors as well. Nice cover, bonuscontent like backgroundinformation, miniposters etc.
On the other side, I have some japanese Hentai imports as well. Behold the quality of cover, nice twists (for example, the shintaisou series by pink pineapple featured a transparent cover which contained clothes and - if put away, revealed the real nudie-cover), bonuscontent and really nice boxsets with miniartbooks (for the bigger series at least) whilst us-DVDs still have high technical standards, but most covers plainly suck.
I buy them, because I want the industry to live on AND I'm a huge collector, but I don't see myself buying many of the american 30minute-dvds with no collectors value whatsoever (even though I own some Japananime-DVDs, because their covers are cool with me and the stuff they release is top notch. But Nutech for example... suxxor)
But this doesn't seem to be the only problem, and licensing-issues with companies like Milky are a big deal as well lately because of the reverse importing. I think that's the reason why they have Japananime release one episode per DVD - otherwise, with 3 or more episodes uncensored for less money than 1 episdode censored, reverse importing would be even more tempting for the japanese customer. I guess many more fans would buy a 5 episode tophit like Magical Girl Ai if it would have been released on 2 DVDs...
Unfortunately, many stuff I'd really like to see uncensored and in english AND on my DVD-shelf don't get licensed... (Pixy-Soft... I sooooo would like to buy pixy-soft's hentai already....) Which brings me to another point - any german or european user her who knows where I could import DVDs from Japan? regards and sorry if this is another tl:dr but hey :)

Which brings me to another point - any german or european user her who knows where I could import DVDs from Japan? regards and sorry if this is another tl:dr but hey :)Unfortunately, AnimeNation no longer does special orders, and since it is a retailer, discussion of other retailers is prohibited (http://www.animenation.net/forums/faq.php). Your best bet is to ask this question on the Anime on DVD Retail forum.
