You mean those things where people wap at each other with foam? I always thought it looked kinda dumb and sloppy. But that is what real fights are like

Last con I went to a bunch of otaku (you gain the status when you participate in this) were doing this, and the Resident Evil cosplayers that were there were just sitting under the trees pretending to shoot them.
I wish I had that FMP? Fumoffu gif right now.

I find carrying an actual sword around tends to be the most effective strategy.

...funny. the police and con staff tend to think otherwise. but, good luck on that.

Your concern is noted and commended.
However, I never said anything to indicate or imply threat, drawing a weapon, walking outside con premises with a weapon or the refusal of peace tying, causing disturbances, etc.
I just said "carrying."
'Should be legal in most states so long as its at the convention and fallowing under con and state laws.
I was merely suggesting that the mere presence of real steel [at the side of the competent fencer] tends to thwart imitation [foam in the hands of the vulgar LARPer] by intimidation.

I think Aniem Detour allowed real swords if they were 'peace bond'

Yep. Anime Central, on the other hand... my brother got a sword confiscated seconds after even buying it.

Do these people know how to actually fight? Or are they still wishing they were Japanese and fighting knowledge was hereditary?

That sounds really dumb then. $20 bamboo swords from SunCoast do not make you a samurai.

If you're someone that knows how to ACTUALLY fight, then you should be safe.

No No! Don't you see? Watching anime such as Kenshin and Samurai Champloo gives you ACTUAL fighting tips! Like what you learn from watching Taibo!

At the con I am going to, they have a Budokan school demonstrating.
They dont really teach the audience anything about footwork or anything. Just show off some sparring, and some basic cutting.
I am glad they dont do kendo...cause Kendo honestly makes me laugh a bit.
