View Full Version : Would You Still Watch "FUN-Piece" if it referenced "4Piece"?

Let's say, in a hypothetical scenario, that a later episode of the FUNimation dub talked about that memory with Zoro and his female friend. As most people know by now, this friend of his died (forgive me, I can't recall her name), but "4Piece" changed it by claiming that she got hurt so badly she couldn't fight again. Then there's Belle-Mère (Nami's adopted mother). She died after Arlong shot her, but "4Piece" claims that she was "locked in a dungeon for the rest of her days" according to Wikipedia.
If the FUNimation dub were to use the 4Kids versions of these events (you know, for purposes of "continuity"), would you still watch it? I will never accept "Zolo", but the fact that FUNi is still using that can be easily ignored, but certain events (such as those oulined above) can't. I know I wouldn't watch it if it did use the 4Kids versions of the events, because then it would just be nothing more than a continuation of "Dub Piece" in the long run (episode "144" would then just be episode "105"), but what about the rest of you?

I'm current with One Piece, and I can only recall one instance where these specific events we're recalled after they had happened. During the 'Oceans Dream' arc, a Filler. The final 'enemy' uses his skills to make 'copies' of people from thier past, and Bellmere and Kuina(Zoro's Childhood Friend) make an apperance, among others. Aside from that, Zoro has flashbacks to his traning with her, but nothing about her death is further pressed. (At least, not untill he meets Tashigi again, which I dont think will be for awhile, considering the next arc after this filler ends is the Thriller Bark) Can't say for Nami, but I don't recall any after Oceans Dream. Maybe when she fought whats her face in Arabasta or Kalifa from CP9. Either way, It wouldnt much matter. It would be a small scene anyway and FUNI would probably change it to be accurate. I doubt thier too concerned with keeping the 4kids version of One Piece straight.

Plz tell me you are kidding me plz plz tell me your joking and just trying to ruin my day, ive not seen the dub but that is some sacred sh!t they just messed with it completely ruins Zoro's whole purpose.
And this is just about as bad when Nami's mum died in the sub they did it in such a shocking way (you know how One Piece makes silence sound so loud) and too make out she was just locked up is a F*cking joke seriously did they show the scene where Arlong killed her?

Foul mouthed, grammatically incorrect post aside, I'm not kidding, I'm not joking, I'm not trying to ruin your day. That IS what happened.

You do know FUNi plans to redub those episodes 4Kids did. Then their dub of those episodes wouldn't match. And they wouldn't have such a dumb edit as hiding the death of a character.
FUNi saved the show, they arn't gonna follow their changes with the exception of the names for the TV release so people who [sadly] watched the 4Kids version arn't confused. But the uncut dub on DVD will have the original names, unless they drop that idea.

No I don't. I would like them to. I hope they do, but where did you hear it? Did they tell you themselves?

If I found the end result entertaining, then it wouldn't put me off watching the series at all.

Well they have to wait until Viz/4Kids loses the rights of those episodes, I think it ends in 2009 but I'm not 100% sure. Its around then. And of course when it happens FUNi will dub those episodes. Do you actually think FUNi would never release those episode? Use common sense dood:P
We have a long time though...

One word: Dragonball.
The series, where they're picking up, may be too far into it to make too many reverts back to the original work.
Out of all of Tama's threads, I think this is probably one of the best questions. I'm sure, if it came down to it, FUNi could creatively describe a character dying without explicitly mentioning death if the situation called for it. As far as characters coming back, as was mentioned in the one filler episode, if it's explained away as an illusion, then who cares whether or not the character is dead/in another dimension/can't fight anymroe or whatever was stated in 4Piece?
Will FUNimation keep up with changes made by 4Kids? It's a possibility, but I don't think it is all that likely, especially as the timeline moves away from many of the earlier events onto new arcs. Will this prevent me from watching the series? I think my hectic schedule is much more a factor than the dubbing but so long as FUNi makes bilingual DVDs available, then there's always Netflix.

I believe it was in one of the earlier press-releases when FUNimation annouced they had bought the license from 4Kids. Levon could be entirely right about waiting until 4Kid's current license on the part they produced already expires, but I don't recall hearing that. I recall it being a simultaneous project with the earliest episodes coming out on DVD and the later ones going to TV.

It still kills me that Zolo is the residue left from 4trash. Another thing that kills me is that Viz used it in the manga.

They just made it seem she got beat up, and survived.

That makes me want to throw up there was so much meaning in her death and to take that away is a sick joke.

Well when FUNi goes back to re-dubbing those episodes I'm pretty sure they won't hide it. So far FUNi hasn't dumbed down the dialog like 4Kids did, FUNi have no problem talking about death. I compared a few of the fansubs & the dub script was pretty accurate, some lines were excatly the same as the fansub which was funny.

Cool i hope they keep it as accurate as they can and change the mistakes 4kids made im glad ive never watched a scrap of the dubbed version (apart from the opening for kicks) it seems like it was sabotaged on purpose.

Trust in FUNi, they know what they're doing. So long as it's not Dragonball.
Fixed that for you.

True enough I guess - I don't mind the Season Sets all that much, but they do make more mistakes on it than any other show under their care. ^_^;
