I loved OG2. I played 2 first because that's all they had at the store. I may get the first one at some point. Oh, and I heard that Banpresto (the guys who make SRW) merged with Namco Bandai, and NB may release OGs...IN AMERICA! But I hear people whining about it and I don't know why. Yeah, there wasn't any original JP audio option in Ace Combat Zero, but the voices were great, IMO. Anyone who thinks all dubs are bad are weaboos, except for dubs like One Piece, Pokemon, etc.

Probably because much of the SRW fan base is so used to the Japanese voices that a dub is too horribly unappealing to them. I'm no dub hater, I like a few, but I can tell you now, I would not buy a US release of OGs without Japanese as a language option. Anything less than hearing those voices I've come to love just wouldn't do anything for me.
Anyway, OG1 and 2 were good stuff, one of the few SRPGs I've even bothered replaying (along with ZOE and SRWW)

Are you talking about the Super Robot Taisen Orignal Generations game for the PS2? I saw some clips of it on Youtube or somewhere. It looks fairly cool, but I like the 2D sprite-based games better.
I picked up the second game for the GBA easily at a local game store, but I ordered the first game off of ebay and played that one first. I'd probably be lost if I played the second game first. I'm now on level 13 of the second game.

I think at least 95% of dubs are bad. There are a few good examples of dubbing, like Cowboy Bebop, Cromartie High School, and the Ghibli movies. But for the most part, they grate on my nerves.

Meh, GaoGaiGar's dub was pretty damn good, IMHO.
That aside, Axel lives in Orignal Generations Gaiden and becomes a playable unit with Alfimi, who also lived. Also, Neo Granzon appears.

So has anyone seen the anime? I'm anxious to watch this soon, but I need to cool it on spending until I get a job. There are a few DVDs of the show out already.
The Super Robot Taisen OG manga is published monthly in Dengeki Hobby magazine. Unfortunately, there is no furigana for the kanji, so it is very difficult for me to try to read this and translate it. I hope it gets picked up for a local manga release through Tokyo Pop or somebody.

I'd buy the anime if it weren't for four reasons:
1. Alteisen occasionally looking like a stack of cubes.
2. DVDs costing over 9000 dollars.
3. All this weird stuff going on that's not in OG1/OG2, like Lamia not being a big part of the story, Bartolls, etc.
4. Kulogwane and Cybaster. That's all that can be said.

The only English anime dub to ever sound better to me than the original Japanese is Big O. And the vast majority of videogame dubs are terrible.
The original japanese voices in SRW games are the voices they're meant to have.

Crossbone, I'll just say this right now: to the best of my memory, I have never seen a post of yours in any thread on any subforum here that had much of any substance. Perhaps there are plenty of threads you've posted in when you weren't being an irritating turd, but I have yet to see any.
If you feel I was mistaken in my previous post, then there is something called "tact" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tact) that would help you to point out my factual errors in a polite way, and facilitate a decent conversation and would not cause anybody to question your age, intellect, or maturity. If you do not want to come across as a 14 year old boy with nothing better to do with his time than to post empty comments and irritate people, you may want to think twice before posting.
That being said, while the gameplay for the PS2 OG game remains 2D essentially, the game engine employs 3D rendering, features camera angles, includes FMV 3D animation, etc. The game engine does not employ a 2D sprite-based presentation as the GBA or the original Super Famicom games do, and that is what I'm getting at. Watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWuN9SrtjFs) and then this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQQHjX9UaMQ&feature=related) if you don't understand what I'm talking about. For a retro-gamer like myself, this sort of eye candy does not warrant me buying a certain game. I made my preferences known by my previous comment, and I also made it clear that I have not played the updated PS2 OG game. I'm sure it's a cool game, but I prefer 2D sprite-based games.

I really stuck in the first GBA game, I think I might have to restart the game-_-; Ryuusei, episode 19. I think I only have one or two EN reducing weapons. I can defeat one but then I'm pretty much all drained & can't defeat the other. Maybe I should restart or try Kyosuke's scenario.

I think at least 95% of dubs are great:P I watch tons of dubs & could list over a hundred that I like, but maybe only 15 that I hate(most are 4Kids or old dubs).

I don't want the respect of someone who has such a petty and superficial reason not to play a videogame.
You calling yourself a "retro gamer" is insulting to the term as all you clearly care about in videogames are superficial qualities like visuals and not substantive things like gameplay.

Again, you're demonstrating how big of a dweeb you are. I prefer 80's anime to modern anime, but that doesn't mean I never watch or buy modern anime. The same goes for games. So what if I dig sprites rather than polygons? Isn't the PS2 OG game just a remix of the GBA? Yes, it's just a compilation of the two GBA games from what I've read and seen of it.The gameplay is the same, so I'm not missing anything. So I'm superficial if I don't want to buy a game that is essentially the same as what I already own and have played, except that it has flashier graphics? Not caring about fluff makes me "superficial?" Give me a break. Quit lashing out and grow up.

Actually, OGs is more than just a graphical update. There is additional story, updated and new battle systems, as well as new units.

You stated pretty clearly you didn't want to play OGs because it had 3D content. If you don't want to sound petty and superficial, try not saying things that make you sound petty and superficial.
And they're not merely OG1 and 2 with different graphics, they're remade from the ground up, with new content added to both.
Quit lashing out and grow up.
Too late to try to reverse roles here.

Thanks. I figured that I'd just skip the first PS2 OG game and go straight to OG Gaiden. It didn't seem worthwhile buying it and going through it all over again just for some added animation sequences.

See? This was an actual informative post from you. I normally do not respond to your inane posts other than just rolling my eyes and keeping to myself, but this was directed at me. You have a high post count, yet I rarely see a post from you that says anything substantial. Most are only a sentence or two, and you're constantly trolling and nitpicking others' posts. You were rude to me first, so I responded.
It was my understanding that from what I've read and seen, the new game seemed to be just a compiled, updated version and I apparently wasn't missing out on anything. So if I were to choose between aesthetics, I'd just stick with what I already have if I'm not missing out on anything, and I prefer the retro style of the older SRT games. Perhaps I did not make that clear enough at first, but there was no reason for you to be obnoxious.

I wouldn't.
The remade OG1 is pretty much as it was in the GBA, with a few scenes added (though for some reason they didnt' stick in a cameo of Axel during Operation SRW, which was the obvious one to do).
OG2 has a lot of content added. The most notable being the originals from SRW R. Their role in OG2 is mostly setup for OG Gaiden, but its still worth playing, since it explains how they end up in the OGverse from the Shadow Mirror universe. There's a few other small things as well, such as Lee not dieing when he gets rammed by the Kurogane (he still hasn't come back yet as of the end of Gaiden).
As an aside, my only complaints with Gaiden was the final boss
As someone who fought and beat the Neo Granzon in SRW 3, SRW4 and Alpha Gaiden, I expected far more. Dark Brain on the previous stage is considerably harder than Shuu on the last, which did upset me, as I'd been psyched up for the fight for the whole game.

I completed OG 1 no problem because I maxed out all my robots and moves (not pilots) with gameshark about a quarter through the story. One day I lost my gameshark. A few months later I ordered OG 2.... I stopped playing at episode 13 after a gazillion tries. The game was going so well for me and everything felt so perfect up until that point, it's as if I ran into an unpenetrable brick wall. Unforgiving difficulty.
Now I can't find a gameshark anywhere for the gba :(.

Gameshark for the fail.
Why do you need it? The games aren't that hard (finished OG2 on Ex hard with every skill point).

^ I bow my head to you (no really I do that's amazing). However once I got into the story in OG I couldn't care less about leveling up my robots, the story took centre stage so I maxed out all my mechas. Same goes for OG2, I'm not bothered about levelling up at all I just want to go through the story, it's so satisfying.
Also Sharp-kun can you give me tips on OG2 on how you eased past the game. I found chapter 13 incredibly difficult and haven't touched it in so long. I would love to play it again if I received good tips from somewhere. I know later chapters will prove more difficult so if you could help me that would be great.

Remind me what chapter 13 is. Is it one of the route split ones (I recall the final of one of those being a pain as you had to stop them reaching the base)?
f2akid
June 9th, 2008, 02:48 AM
That's the one. You have 3 rhinos and you have to stop them reaching the base so you basically have about 6 turns to take out the rhinos and then these alien robots come out of nowhere after 3 turns so you have a defend + attack situation on your hands. It really gets out of hand because not only are the rhinos super hard to defeat but the 12 or so mechas that show up are equally hard to defend against.
My mechas just couldn't handle them at all and because the alien robots only go for my mothership I keep dying.
Remember now?

Yes
I submerge the Hagane in the lake when the Gespenst reinforcements arrive. It gives it nice defence since its good in water and the enemy weapons aren't.
As for the Rhinos I burn them down as fast as possible, I ignore most of the enemy mechs, and take them out with counterattacks. Try to block the Rhino's with your mechs to slow them as well. The last one is always a pain, but just ignore everything to kill it.
Its a nasty stage, just kill the Rhinos ASAP and then worry about the rest, use seishin to dodge attacks and destroy with counters. Just make sure you have some SP left for Echidna and co.
f2akid
June 9th, 2008, 02:23 PM
I did all that before and more but still fail. Even I forgot you also have to take out Echidna. Man I am not going back there until I get a gameshark.
Thanks for the help anyway Sharp-kun :). Looks like I'm not as good as you on this game.

You don't even deserve to own a SRW game.
It's amazing how some people think there should be nothing more to strategy than ATTACK and WIN.

Just don't let Kyosuke hear you saying that. But yeah, neither the OVA or the TV series is very pretty, the TV series animation in particular is quite poor at points.
I recently picked up Original Generations and Original Generations Gaiden. Good stuff, about 15 episodes into Kyosuke's scenario.

I think he already knows. When the time came to design the Alt's successor he basically said "Make it larger and more unwieldy. Oh and lots more Claymore."

I was wondering if they included both routes in OGs since I keep hearing about how Kyosuke's route was made 'uncanon' or whatever.
Also I'm aware that this is a two month bump but I didn't notice Sushikins' reply before.

I've never heard anything about Kyosuke's route not being canon. Ryuusei is just a far more popular character (probably because he's generally easier to relate to) and thus gets far more coverage. I played OG2 after having only played Kyosuke's route in OG1 and there was nothing I saw that would've indicated that his route wasn't official.
I like Ryuusei, he's pretty cool, and as a fellow Mecha fan, I can relate to him, but I find Kyosuke and Excellen far more entertaining than anybody in Ryuusei's early route.

Obviously the first 20 or so chapters are canon (because they are totally separate from Ryusei's) but they diverge towards the end. I don't know exactly because I've not finished Ryusei's route yet.
Ryuusei is just a far more popular character (probably because he's generally easier to relate to) and thus gets far more coverage.
Not to mention that he's been around for longer (by 4 years) even though he was never a protagonist like Kyosuke was or Bullet or Kusuha or Ring or Irm or Leona or Carla or Yuuki and so on...
I think that (what you said) must be the reason he suddenly became the main character (and pilot Banpresto's flagship robot and share his theme tune with the entire company...)
Ryusei must be the avatar of the entire Banpresto team.

Yeah... the main reason I went back to OG1 to play Ryusei's route was for Latooni and Aya (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheWoobie). -_-; Kyosuke is actually my favourite character for some reason.

I never needed a gameshark to beat the game because I never owned one. I played OG1 on my DS and I actually got pretty far in the game. To be honest, I picked up OG2 and played that first. I was actually doing well my first time around, then I had some difficulties in the later stages. After doing some research online via gamefaqs.com, I managed to get through the stages I had troble on and now progressing through the game. I'm on episode 36 (Rest in the Cradle) right now.
