View Full Version : Ten'ou has a dilemma...

So, I'll be leaving for Korea in a couple of weeks (less than, actually).
I've been going through my stuff and come to the realization that I've gone beyond the realm mere hoarder. I looked in boxes and didn't recognize anything in there. I've calendars and coasters wanted because they're pretty, but haven't looked at them since I bought them.
So I'm going through all of my things and deciding what stays and what goes.
Now the dilemma... my anime collection.
A few VHS that I haven't watched in years (an not only because I no longer own a VCR), stickers, action figures, wall scrolls, a Sailor Moon Calendar from 1997...
I haven't looked at these things in at least 2 years, and that was to repack for a move. So do I keep it for the memories? Or get rid of it because I'm not really interested in any of it any more.
Now, I know that more than a few rabid fans are going to reply 'never give up, keep it all until the end of days.' But I don't know if there's really any point in that. I probably won't regain interest in anime the way I used to be... but (and here's why I'm torn) what if being in Korea in close proximity to Japan, rekindles a love for it?

Being true to my username, I can offer to assuage you of your unneeded and encumbering possessions -- for free! You have but to mail your collection to my adress and you can now put it out of sight and out of mind.
Just kidding, really. I'm not about to steal your collection. I'd say put everything you won't keep into a bundle and e-bay it. If there's some valuable and OOP stuff in it, it can fetch a few hundred, cash.
It seems to me that this is less about keeping it for the sake of fandom than getting rid of what you know you won't watch anymore. Being close to Japan simply means that you'll have access to the newer series coming out, which is what will get your interest.
So sell, unless you have emotional attachment to the collection, a feeling which any collector can sympathize with. In that case, you just need to find a permanent repository for it.

Solution: You can sell me your stuff, then if you change your mind I'll sell it back to you for... a slight markup. :D

Dress up like the church lady and have a bonfire were you "burn these things made by the devil" and get on the local news then wait to see how long it takes the forum to pick up the story and start a thread about it.

You're moving to Korea? Because I was about to tell you that you don't need to bring your entire house with you when you travel.

She intends to accidently drop her house on Anne Coulter on purpose.

Well, I considered taking my house because of all the junk I own, I realized that shipping charges would be astronomical.
Holy, my dear... you won't be interested anyway. It's mostly pink. Though I have a couple of nice wall scrolls with half naked chicks you might like... Actually, I think I'll keep those.
Tenshi, my love, my valentines are yours. I'll put your name on each and every one of them and send you one every day until February 14th... that sounds kind of stalker-ish, doesn't it. Scrap that plan.
There's nothing really that will fetch a big price unless a couple of crazed Sailor Moon fans happen across the DiC VHS or 'action figures' (which are basically barbies dressed as Sailor Moon)... A couple of odd ball things, like a house set with Sailor Moon characters, trading cards, maybe. I'll keep the playing cards, though.
I've also all of the last reprint of Sailor Moon comics... in Japanese. I've never read them. But I have the whole set, and that's the important part. I spend a good chunk of time and money on it and hate to sell it. I'll probably keep that too, unless I can get a good price on Ebay or what not.

I will also do this, but at a lower markup than tenshi_a. ;)

I'd keep them for sentimental value; but if you would like, there are a few options:
Option One:
Storage. A storage box would probably save you a lot of trouble, mattering on how long you're going to be in Korea for. If its a perma deal, then I would only bring the Sailor Moon stuff, and donate the rest to Half-Price books or something. (Give another anime fan some happiness for a great deal find ya know?)
Option Two:
Sell. I'm sure there is some anime store, especially Suncoast which will buy your crap. I mean, for a quick fix.
Option Three:
AnimeNation Anime *****s. Ship it to someone for safe keeping. I would be wiling to take it, and I'm sure there are many others who are just as willing. (Remember, I totally bought a game for Tenshi that was only here in the states. She did give me the money for it though, I just shipped it to her.) If you wanted it back, I would just ship it back to you. No markup included. I'd probably be awesome, and just pay for shipping myself...
Edit: And no valentines for the Alpha Female? Pshaw, what is that?

Actually, I'd keep the things that matter to you the most sentimentally and then sell the rest either on ebay or other sites.

Did you ever hear about those crazy brothers in new york who were compulsive hoarders and one was blind and never left the house and the other only left at night and built booby traps in their junk-filled house which ended up killing him (buried in his own junk)? And then his brother starved to death because he couldn't feed himself or get out.

Oh, Korea! Which places are you going to?
If it's for vacation than I'd say you should check out Pusan, Seoul and Cheju. There are some pretty cool places beside, but those seem to be the best for sight seeing and vacationing.

Videl, my love, as the Alpha Female, no mere valentines will do. No, I have something special in mind (or will, once I think of it).
As for your suggestions... I'm in Nova Scotia, anime's still not that big. It's only been in the last year or so that comic book and video stores have had a decent anime selection. Any selling would have to be on line, and fast, because time's running out... I am so not ready for this.

I think that's what I'm going to have to do, not just with my anime, but with everything. I own a house full of stuff, though most of it I was able to loan to friends and family.

I'm going to Taegu to teach for at least a year. I'm definitely planning on a few trips to Seoul because I can find tons about the gay scene there, but nothing in Taegu. I'd also like to see as much of the country as I can. It'll be an adventure.

Throw it all on Ebay then. It'll cost ya, but to get rid of it fast, thats the best way to go I guess. I'd end up just giving it to a friend if it were me though. I have...more than enough(not really) friends who would like to have my collection.
( Sweet! I hardly get anything on Valentines Day! Something from you would make it worth while...I suppose...)

Start a blog about it. Okazu can kiss my ***. Plus, it would be fun in general to read a blog with you writing it. (Loves Blogs).
