I didn't really see any other topic relating to this so I am going to put it out there. There has a been a drastic increase in the price of gas, as everyone has noticed. So, being that we live in different places...what's the going rate in your locale and how much did you spend to fill up the tank.

I was lucky (?) enough to find a place for 3.17 (regular) around my neighborhood. Other places I have seen as high as 3.39 or or above for regular. Bothering to mention the middle grade or premium hurts my wallet just thinking about it. But if that is what u usually get for your car, then itz all good. I usually wait my tank is near empty but recently i have been refilling just after the halfway mark...just in case I need it.

So, what's the story with you?

I paid 3.99 for premium this morning.

I get the regular stuff, which today was $3.16, but I haven't filled up my car since it was around $2.80, and I can probably go another 4 or 5 days without having to do so again at this rate.

Here in my corner of Azirona, $3.06 for regular unleaded fuel, $3.50 for diesel.

Remember the days when the diesel owners used to laugh at us? Yeah, karma's a *****, innit? :P

Since I bike everywhere, the amount to fill my tank is quite variable. Really, all I need are the Calories. I find that pasta's always a bargain, while the complex carbohydrates of alcohol are at rather a high premium.

Um...

I think at our Shell it's 3.19 for regular and 3.49 for unleaded or something.

It's around $1.00-1.09 a litre in southern Ontario last time I looked.

$3.02 per gallon in the DC/Balt area.

These gas prices are retarded. We've spent 1.6 trillion on the Middle East wars; shouldn't we be getting a break somewhere?

1.09 Euro a litre in ireland

Still about £1 per litre here, I think...

...and it costs me £1.60 for a journey to and from the centre of town where I work to my home. Which otherwise takes about 40 mins to walk.

It'll cost me over £40 to travel by train to see my family this weekend.

Travelling in this country seems the most expensive in the world... >_<

Lucky for those of you who live in Europe cuz the exchange rate for the USD is not so good right now.

Sometimes I'll splurge and get premium for my car or maybe the middle grade. But right now, the minimum octane is good enough for me.

Costs me about 35 bucks a week to fill up

Using an exchange rate calculator (http://www.xe.com/) and measurement convertor (http://www.escapeartist.com/Conversions/Gallons_Liters.html), I worked out that it's currently $7.8USD per gallon.

I'm not sure the exchange rate really makes up for it.

I think we get overall better quality petrol (?) but it's taxed very heavily.

That is a bit tough in the winter, and when it gets 30F (around 0C?) in the morning and evening

No it is the same you just get it taxed to all heck. In the US anywere from 50 cents to 1.00 is tax depending on were you afre at. Technically it is supposed to go to mantain the highway systems but instead goes into whatever pork the bureaucrats have in mind.

In Ted Stevens' defense, a bridge to nowhere is still a bridge and therefore a valid waste of taxes!

Even though there's no federal gas tax, and Teddy's always trying to pay for his useless pork with the tax dollars of non-alaskans.

It's not the same. Higher grade gasoline (up to 98 octane rating) is available in other countries because enthusiasts are willing to pay higher costs and are subsidizing infrastructure through heavy taxation. The US went from having an average of 55% pumps with 98 octane grade gasoline in 1993 to 10% now and a lower average of 91 octane with ethanol being used as an additive, even though it decreases energy output and increases fuel costs with no benefit to motorists.

I pay $2.95/gallon for 93 octane cut with ethanol and $9/gallon for 25 gallons of C98 unleaded gasoline for use in my track cars.

Wrong, in the US we use 2 systems research octane and motor octane to determine the value with the formula R + M / 2 in Europe they only use the R rateing so the 98 r works out to around 92 useing the US formula.

by me the most expensive one ive seen so far by me is $2.93. towards NYC its probably somewhere in the hgih $2.80s. the jersey shore has it ridiculously cheap.

and WHAT THE HELL CANADA!?!?!? 1 f*cking Canadian dollar?!

i think the best way that gas prices would go down is if a bunch of countries banded together and captured all of the heads of the oil companies. oh, wait. i forgot, the US would think its OUR job to do that, because we have a member of an oil tycoon family as a president.

notice how the rest of the world is perfectly willing to change to other fuels, but the US isnt? thats another thing to blame Bush for.

i am not changing this to a bash Bush thread, im just making a valid point.

Research octane is a BS number used to inflate ratings so that the automotive manufacturers can claim awesome mileage, when in fact they use imported Shell Helix and elf Racing fuels that are significantly higher grade as higher octane ratings lead to higher mileage, not the other way around. Ever wonder why new cars never get stated EPA figures? People are nuts if they think they can pull 30 mpg on 89 octane.

If the R number is a BS number why are you saying European gas is better since it soley uses that rateing.

Anyway I have access to free avgas which is good stuff. The only thing I have found out ethanol does is make my check engine light come on because it screws up the oxygen sensor.

Per litre. Last I saw, we were up to 112.4 cents and since 3.785 litre = 1 gallon, that makes it 4.254$.

Yeah, lucky us.

The funny thing is I still see trucks and cars that are puffing out black nasty smoke almost daily. How they get away with that I do not understand.

Ethanol is hell on engine computers and sensors because it doesn't combust very well and leaves residue. I hate it, but MTBE got pulled and there's no other alternative other than adding more xylene, which is expensive and tightly regulated by the EPA.

Even though the US dollar is going down and down and down, gas prices are still rising in Canada. 111.3 cents/liter this week (we've regulation on gas prices now changes every week).
