I think this goes here because it covers anime, also the Studio Ghibli sub-forum hasn't been posted in for a while ^^; This is for my Media coursework. There are fifteen questions and I think it will take you about 15 or 20 minutes too complete. The more depth you go into the better it is for me, so feel to rant as much as you like ;p

3. Are you male or female?

4. Do you enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films?

Both Disney and Ghibli are the reason that most people still think animation is just for kids. Expand you mind beyond this spoon feeding . . . . I would rather see the works of Satoshi Kon, Shoji Kawamori or Shinichiro Watanabe.

You know what? I'll play ball.

1. What country are you from?
The United States.
2. How old are you?
18.
3. Are you male or female?
Male.
4. Do you enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films?
Yes.
5. Which is your favourite and why?
Spirited Away, excellent story and animation.
6. What was your first Studio Ghibli film?
Spirited Away.
7. How old were you when you first watched a Studio
Ghibli film?
I was 15.
8. Which aspects of the Ghibli films do you enjoy the most?
Superb animation quality and the style of story (sort of a folklore-type thing in some cases).
9. Do you enjoy watching Disney films?
I love Disney films.
10. If you do which is your favourite and why?
Um...this is tough, I have a lot of favorites. I would have to say either The Little Mermaid or Beauty & The Beast, both for story and villain quality. Also both musicals.
11. Which aspects of the Disney films do you like the most?
Fluidity of animation, and I tend to like their takes on certain tales (such as Hercules; rather interesting one, that).
12. Do you think Ghibli films and Disney films are similar in any way? Why?
I would say they're similar in that they both are culturally relevant (for example, a Westerner will "get" Snow White more than they would Spirited Away or something; same thing in reverse for the Japanese.
13. Do you think they are different? Why?
They're different in styling. Ghibli tends to be less fanciful and more subtle than Disney, I think, while Disney prefers that bravado.
14. Do you think Studio Ghibli films have 'hidden' (deeper) meanings? behind the films?
Not beyond the obvious meanings, no.
15. Lastly, do you prefer Disney or Ghibli, or do you like them both the same? (Why?)
I prefer Disney because I grew up watching their films and the ones I tend to prefer most are musicals (which I do not believe Ghibli has produced).

A fair number of Ghibli films are suitable for kids and adults, even if the main characters are often children.

Interesting topic, I'd like to mention that there is a Studio Ghibli (http://www.animenation.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=237) series specific forum here in the AN boards. Anyways, here it goes...

1. What country are you from?
San Antonio, Texas, USA

2. How old are you?
29

3. Are you male or female?
Female

4. Do you enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films?
I find them to be quite different from other anime series in the sense that Ghibli films have always felt more film like. They have released some of the highest quality animation techniques as well as some of the most unique storylines.

5. Which is your favourite and why?
My favorite has to be Princess Mononoke. I consider it to be a masterpiece. I loved its story and beautiful animation. It implied many important things about nature that will really makes you think about it. It's definitely a story that has had a tremendous impact in getting many people into anime. I also liked Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

6. What was your first Studio Ghibli film?
My first Ghibli film was also Princess Mononoke. In fact, it was one of the first anime series I got when I got into anime. I still enjoy seeing it from time to time even to this day.

7. How old were you when you first watched a Studio Ghibli film?
I'd say I was around 22. I got into anime when I was 21 in 1999, and I saw this movie about a year later when I started buying anime. Needless to say, I've been into role playing games far before this when I was still in middle school.

8. Which aspects of the Ghibli films do you enjoy the most?
I would definitely say the quality of story and artistic animation. Studio Ghibli have done some of the best films ever produced. They produce original storylines too!!

9. Do you enjoy watching Disney films?
I could forget the beauty of Disney films that I enjoyed when I was a little girl. Unfortunately, none of today's Disney films can match the spark of the original animated films, from its music, to its characters, and definitely its story. I really enjoyed the original 2D hand drawn animated films.

10. If you do which is your favourite and why?
I'd have to say The Little Mermaid. It was so memorable and romantic, and I absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, Lady and the Tramp, The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, Pocahontas, and Mulan.

11. Which aspects of the Disney films do you like the most?
I'd have to say story and animation mostly!! I really enjoyed most Disney films that were released before 2000. I can't seem to get into any of the newer stuff released afterwards.

12. Do you think Ghibli films and Disney films are similar in any way? Why?
They are both similar in the sense that they release quality theatrical films.

13. Do you think they are different? Why?
Disney films have always been based on pre-existing myths and stories. On the other hand, Ghibli films have been mostly all original stories.

14. Do you think Studio Ghibli films have 'hidden' (deeper) meanings? behind the films?
Studio Ghibli films have always implied something meaningful and spiritual from what was perceived to be. It's definitely one of the aspects that attracted me to them to begin with.

15. Lastly, do you prefer Disney or Ghibli, or do you like them both the same? (Why?)
If I had to choose one, I'd have to say the quality Disney animated films pre-2000 hands down. They were great when I watched them as a kid, they are great to watch now, and they will still be great to watch with my future kids too. Needless to say, I really enjoy Ghibli films too, but they are only a few compared to what I've enjoyed from Disney in the past.

Sometimes

The Emperor's New Groove
11. Which aspects of the Disney films do you like the most?
None really, some are pure **** and some are pure gold, but I giess I enjoy that they are heart warming, innocence and try their best to make you feel happy with yourself, your life and with the world in General I guess.
12. Do you think Ghibli films and Disney films are similar in any way? Why?
not at all
13. Do you think they are different? Why?
Ghibli films especially Miyzaki's work is more out there, more daring, more imaginative and tris harder to get important points across to its audience no matter what age they may be.
yup
15. Lastly, do you prefer Disney or Ghibli, or do you like them both the same? (Why?)
