So I was just given an old 25" Mitsubishi television and I thought it was working fine. I had hooked up my Xbox 360 and played Eternal Sonata for about 20 minutes. Then for some reason it just turned itself off. When I went to turn it back on, it attempted to turn on but turned itself off. If I wait 10-15 minutes I can turn it back on, but after 20 more minutes it'll turn itself off again. I've tried using it on multiple outlets but it does the same ****. Is the TV just too old to use or is there something I can do to try to fix it? I'd really like to use it since it's twice as big as my other TV.

Sounds to me like the TV's power is getting cut because it's over heating (like what a computer does if the MB gets too hot [which means time for a new PSU or fan for the computer]). Either that, or it's a power supply issue. You might want to take the TV to a repair shop to check it out, but at the cost of their inspection/repair, it might be cheaper to buy a new comparable model...

I second the overheating hypothesis...
Look at the back of the TV - is it uberdusty? A little cleaning goes a long way...
(Could be dusty/dirty on the inside, too...but that gets into opening the case...which is iffy...)

older TVs arent capable with dealing with certain video game systems. i had a TV once so old that it only had a channel count on the side going up to 14. it cut off a small bit of the screen for my SNES. the graphics didnt fit the screen perfectly. kinda like a picture slightly too big for the frame. it was worse when i had my PS2 on the old "regular TV made giant" big screen TV. the pixels were glitching when i watched it regularly. it took a good while for that to stop once i stopped playing it on that tv.
other members will get more technical about it.

Thanks for the replies. I cleaned out as much dust as I could (even opened it up and carefully dusted inside) and set up two fans to blow air inside the TV (which looks retarded as hell and probably really doesn't do much). It seems to have worked pretty well though, it's been about 30 minutes and nothing has happened yet.

If it messes up again, I suggest a plunge from a 4th story window. If that doesn't fix it at least it'll make you feel better.
