View Full Version : What kinda car do you drive?

I don't drive yet but my parents are gonna buy me a really nice car when I turn 16, maybe a Mercedes. Right now my dad drives a Mercedes CLS 500 loaded(my sig pic) and my mom has a Lexus GX 470 SUV, but its thinking of getting a normal size Escalade(not the huge one, or a Mercedes GL450 SUV soon). And for my dads next car, he wants an SL550 or SL63, maybe.

So, what kinda cars do you drive?

You shouldn't your chickens before they hatch, kid. That being said, you're getting a beat up Pinto for your first car.

Anyways, I have a 2005 Acura TL, 2007 Camry (I exchanged my old one for it) and 2004 Pathfinder.

1996 Geo Metro.

I ain't kidding.

But hey, it goes two weeks between refills, costs only $15 to fill up, and it was free...

So I'm not complaining.

a lousy 95 Chrysler LeBaron, with the plush interior, the right blink rejected the rest of the car so it doesn't work now, and it's infested with little red beetle like bugs.

costs about 40 bucks to fill the tank but that lasts about 2 weeks :D

cool cars. I can't wait for my first car. here is probably my list for choices.

Mercedes C-350(or C 63AMG)
Mercedes E-350(if my dad gets a 2-seater sports car and needs a family car)
Lexus IS-350 or ES350
Infiniti G-37
Lexus IS-F
or cars like those.

What I drive?
Usually a Buick (mom's).

What I'd love for my first car?
A yellow Lamborghini Diablo!

What I'd love (and is closer to my price range)?
Toyota Celica gt4

What I'll most likely get: Camry

Of course, when I attain richness, I'll have one custom built (a seat designed just for my cheeks) ;D

A little 93 Tercel. But I've been driving my brother's car... I don't remember what it is, but it's hot, green, and a chick magnet. I've really got to get the stats on it so that next time I go out, I can impress all the ladies with my cool car and know-how. Ok, so they seem a little young and impressionable. I'm getting to the point where I might be ok with this.

The fun thing about it is the sequential 6 speed gearbox and the supercharged V6 making 600 bhp on 98 octane. God, I love Japan's highway system. ;) :P

Fixed for actual truth. VW/Audi/Porsche vehicles require the most maintenance and have the highest ownership costs on average. BMWs usually cost less to maintain and have lower costs in comparison.

From the list, the IS is probably the best car.. I'd wait for the Hybrid, though.

The IS is not really a car I would recommend to a beginner. May I suggest a Kia? :P

Or a Geo. Something that goes 0-60 in, like, 4 hours. Seriously, rich parents buying their kids nice, fast cars as their first car ended up being the cause of a lot of accidents around here. So much so, that getting my actual non-provisional license took some 3 years.

damn your lucky, i drive a 03 impala (mom's) and my car is a 93 RX-7 :). the only thing i get picked on about is that its an automatic, but there was a big price difference thats the only reason i didnt get a manual. My car was only 6K and the manual was 16K so i chose the cheaper one.

yea im doing my best to keep it in top shape. Im not over heating the engine, not going crazy every time im behind the wheel or anything like that im doing my best and ive got a couple of freinds with rx7s so i go to them when i dont know something. right now its geting a body kit put on, i only got a body kit because it was cheaper then buying the original bumpers... o i forgot to mention the reason i need a new front bumper and side skirt is because my tire blew out in the rain and i spun out of control into a mailbox. At least it wasnt totaled but Im just hoping the sad day the seals blow doesnt come anytime soon.

Wasn't there already a thread on this?

Quite a lot of Mercedes, Lexuses (Lexi?), and BMWs ITT so far...

I'm still driving a Vauxhall Astra Mk 1 (can't remember the year/plate, but it's between 1985-1990), but not for much longer (m.o.t. is coming up soon - and it won't pass...)

Features include:
1. Manual Fuel Injection (MFI), this is an advanced system that changes the air-fuel mixture in the engine for optimal start-up performance (a choke).
2. Variable Tire Pressure System (VTPS), some call it a slow puncture but it's actually a way to more evenly distribute the engine's power across the wheel's point of contact with the road.
3. Automatically Self-Modifying Body Work (ASMBW), some parts of the car's bodywork change over time into completely new shapes via I.D. (iron oxidation).
4. Road View Ports (RVP), enjoy the sight of the road with RVP; a series of holes in the floor of the car, peel back the duct-tape that covers the RVP during rain to enjoy a refreshing shower in your comfort of your own car.

Strangely there's only one picture of the thing that I can find online -

http://www.users.dialstart.net/~pom90/cars/astra1.jpg

Same as that but my one's brown AND has a roof rack ( yes, I choose that the roof rack should stay on all year round... it isn't rusted to the door frame or anything like that :shifty: ).

I would be interested in owning a classic motorcycle, but I haven't looked in to how expensive those are to maintain.

i havent had a car yet. i want something that has some decent acceleration and kicka$$ gas milage.

however if i ever got the money and i could afford a Ferrari, id go learn how to drive one properly (they have places that teach owners how to get the most out of their car). what i cant stand is people getting high performance sports cars just to show off their wealth and HAVE NO FREAKIN IDEA HOW TO REALLY DRIVE IT!

Honestly, Ferraris are overrated and not the pure driver's cars they used to be. I'm considering looking for an older 355 without the semi-auto transmission since the market for those is declining quickly.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/AlycWafiago/LHCTourOct30/BikeTarmac.jpg

It's an old Marin Stinson hybrid that's been all over the country and on which I've biked thousands of miles. It's still going, and it still gets the same gas mileage as it did back when it was fresh off the showroom floor.

Yeah, I've got a Jeep Cherokee, but... eh. When gas hit $3.00/gallon (the first time), I vowed I'd bike whenever and wherever possible. I've kept to my word pretty well since then, too. I still drive when I have to, but that's becoming quite rare these days.

i want a 288 GTO, and they cost a sh*tload. not to mention they were only sold in Europe so its even more money to bring it over and have it made to US spec.

the most likely choice for me is a 328 GTB or GTS. GTBs are really rare. but the average 328 will be around 40-45,000 dollars. not the greatest acceleration, but its a Ferrari that drives well. the 308s arent as good. the 328 has an improved steering rack that it got from the 288 GTO. i hope that those things have power steering, otherwise i wouldnt ever consider getting one. but just how low are the 355's prices now, and how fast are they dropping?

In lay terms, a computer controlled manual transmission with paddle shifters and/or a shifter with a direct upshift or downshift gate. It's the same type of transmission used in F1, Champ Car, and Indy Car. It makes things easier on the driver as the hands never leave the wheel and is more convenient than a traditional H pattern manual. I do not enjoy using them as the consumer variants are programmed for street driving and have more lag than I would like.

They're nice, but if they're not mated to a real hydraulically controlled transmission, then the connection to the engine isn't there. On Mitsus they're tacked on to the automatic transmissions to fool you into thinking you have manual control.

Which Mitsus?

EVO X has them linked to dual clutch manual rather than proper auto

And semi-autos don't necessarily have paddles. i don't recall the first gen VW DSGs having paddles. and the Getrag SMG in the previous model M didn't have paddles either.

Also, didn't MB have a Clutchless manual in (i think) the early A class and Smart Fourtwo?

Hotrod: 1974 Australian Ford XB Falcon made to look like a custom Mad Max MFP Interceptor. I still need to paint it and put the exhaust on. The engine is a 467ci V-8 with NOS, putting out somewhere around 500hp. It's the ultimate "postal vehicle" being right hand drive.

I should have clarified: On Mistus sold in the US with the exception of the Evo X, they're mated to an average auto.

I have a US spec 2002 M3 with an SMG in it and it has paddles. DSGs are also in the R20 with paddles.

Yeah, but that was a manual with planetary gears.

There's quite an extensive list of the cars in the States now. Most of them are XB's, with a few XC's and very few XA's. I think the total is somewhere around 160 now including Ford's, Holden's, and the extremely rare Chrysler Chargers (E38's, 770's and even rarer E49's). My coupe is one of 1825 produced as a Fairmont. Owning one, you wouldn't believe all the questions I get, like, Is it British? (hence my response above) Not everyone realizes that OZ had a muscle car war that went on longer than the US, and that the Falcon badge is still around. I tell the so-called experts that point out that I took two crashed cars and welded them together that it's either a British Mustang or a Canadian Camaro. Other cars it gets mistaken for are: Chevelle, Torino, MACH I, Matador, Javelin, Maverick, 70 Cuda, Charger, Trans Am and a few others. Everywhere I go, it takes at least 30 min longer because of all the questions...every time. It's fun though. As far as getting any GT, let alone one of the original 949 XB's I couldn't bring myself to modify it like the original movie car in Keswick England at the COTS museum. They're going for $10,000AU just for the shells now with the VIN plates and tower stamps.

I'd love to import a 2003+ BOSS 290 BAGT in Citric Acid with black stripes if I could.

I take you might be an Aussie given the WA and VIC response above?

Did you happen to see the recent auction of the older Falcon that went for $750,000AU? I think it was a green XYGTHO Phase III if memory serves.

Nakey, trust me there's mod rules here (not AS harsh as VIC I've heard).

that's my point. not as harsh, TOG not as anal as they are over there

Yup, with a soft spot for the XY GTHO Phase III and anything from the BA afterwards (Suprising since i'm a Holden fan...). I'm considering getting a BA XR6 on Salary Sacrifice, but it's too expensive ATM (Telstra don't pay me enough =__= ).

Satan not giving out raises yet? :P

(I wouldn't mind a real Commodore myself but the XR6 is beastly. I guess I'll have to buy a Pontiac G8 and rebadge.)

Satan gave me a raise.. still ain't enough... >.>;

XR6 is cheaper than commodore S on Salary Sacrifice. That being said, Focus is cheaper, and i'd be happy with that

Even the XR6 withOUT turbo is pretty hot. The turbo version is almost as quick as the XR8, if not a little faster. But you gotta love the BOSS...388bhp...stock. We rode almost 3500 miles in a black BA wagon with the straight 6, and that thing hauled, and then hauled. The EL was a "severely lowered" bomb that my buddy had...overheated going into Adelaide.

I went there for Easternats at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne, and toured most of the Mad Max filming sites as well as went to Broken Hill to climb the Pinnacles and bring back souvenirs from the Compound site. We got to meet Emil Minty (Feral Kid), the guy who built the original Interceptor, and the stunt driver for the tanker rollover. We went back to his house in Horsham and had a typical Aussie Bar-b-que and car show in his yard. There were two XAGT's, one XBGT sedan, one XB Ute, One Holden Ute (HQ?), and a Holden Torana XR-1...pretty cool. The white XAGT scared the bejeezus outa me...fast. It had a "warmed up" Clevo with twin cross-flow Webers. It could 'ave competed at Bathurst.

There's a guy with a GTO here in Detroit that "retrofitted" and rebadged it as a HSV Manure-O, and painted it like the 2003 Holden Factory V8 Supercar with the helmet and kitty heads on the side and bonnet to run in the SCCA...looked pretty good. The plate reads: USHOLDN.

Is the Aussie Focus the same as the European version? I saw one outside Little River and it looked waaay better than the US version.

As far as the auction, it WAS a XYGTHO Phase III in Monza Green...just Google search: "$750,000 Australian Falcon" and several articles pop up.

I have an 05 Mazda RX-8 which is my daily driver and I still have my first car I bought when I was 17 which is a 1968 GTO. I can't bring myself to part with my GTO, so I drive it on the weekends.
