Twilight series~ a love hate relationship

Like most teenage girls I have discovered this book series and fell madly in love.
But I feel guilty for loving it and being apart of the mindless masses u.u

I totally love the books,it's perfect combination of humor,action,sadness and most of all:Romance.They are the most romantic books I have ever read.you shouldn't feel guilty at all for loving them.They are just wonderfull so it means that you have good taste.And I can't wait for the next book that will come in fall 2008 and I want to see the movie.:)

I haven't read them and I imagine I never will since the people I know who read them are the girls who read things like Tokyo Mew Mew and that godawful drama-con malarky. Plus it's about vampires, so the story's always the same (some girl falls in love with some bloke who turns out to be vampire and they go on adventures with a smart mouth dog etc etc.)

I hated this book. One of the worst books I ever read. And I like vampire stories.

Bella = most annoying Mary Sue ever.

And the sparkly vampires? Give me a break. I know I'm not the demographic for this series, but still...even my fifteen year old self would've kicked the **** out of Bella.

As for the movie........I'm sort of amused by the fact that Cedric Diggory is Edward. He looks like he's stoned in the pictures I've seen of this movie.

Hmm, there is a thread on this series? Well my girlfriend is into them...just like every other girl whom I know... I really have no interest in reading them personally, but I won't make a judgment on books I haven't read. The first time I saw the book I wanted to read it, but suddenly everyone became a Twilight's superfan & they don't stop talking about it now. Well, I do NOT like when somebody keeps talking and talking and talking about the same thing, it sounds like a hypnosis and does not attract me. It's like Book Thief (but fortunately I read it before becomes superfamous). Anyway. There's also the chance of hearing from somebody parts of the book I've not read yet. Maybe I try when it is not a fever anymore, but, by now, I won't read.

These books are like cotton candy; no matter how much you get, even though you might pack it into a small round ball, there's still nothing in it. And yet, you still want more.

First book was good, if vapid. Second book was soul-numbing. Third one had some great humor at times and the fourth book is the better one in my opinion even though it made me laugh at some of the absurdity.

It's teen-pop fluff. You read it like you enjoy chocolate-coated candy, but too much of it is hard to stomach. Good reading in-between some heavyweights like The Brothers Karamazov or the Gormenghast novels.

Finally, looks like we won't be getting Midnight Sun any time soon as the author got into a fit over a leaked manuscript.

Yes, the books are extremely light and fluffy reading but I can't get behind a series in which the female protagionist basically gives up her identity and everything about her 'all in the name of tru wuv' while the male protagionist stalks her in the name of protecting her. It's basically one long Mary/Gary Stu story.

:( I managed to get onto the website with Midnight Sun...it looked really good. It looks like it's indefinetley not going to be released from what I hear which is a shame.

Someone at work lent me Twilight at 6:30 am, and I had finished it by 10 the same morning. I'm currently really obsessively combing the interenet for graphics and information about the movie, which i'm now really going to have to see.

I cant really explain why these books dont do anything for me, but it's not because of Edward leaving. It seems like the author is trying too hard to make an interesting read.

Watched the movie, and while I didn't like the book enough to finish it, the movie was bad. As in, usually a decent movie is better than a not-good (in my opinion) book, but the movie was just bad. Completely less watchable than the book was readable. The acting was subpar. The dialogue was simple yet delivered awkwardly by most of the actors. The camera work was uninspiring, it's like they left a camcorder on a tripod and forgot about it. Considering this book was written like a glorified screenplay, the transition to film should have been easy. And yet it failed to do so.

The writing is poor. The characterization and the love story are very shallow, "Oh you're so handsome, I'm so plain, oh I'm not worthy, how I love thee, I can't live without you, your gorgeous jaw, your gelled hair, your eyes..." Kill me now.

The first book had a decent start but the villain, his devious schemes, and the ending were just silly. I read that the author said she began writing after picturing the meadow scene, and it really shows - the final portion of the book is just bad, and the reasoning behind people's actions is just.... dumb.

The second book was painfully boring. The only part I actually enjoyed was
when she's alone, and it just skips ahead month by month, a very effective way to show how girls feel in those times. That was good.

I don't know if my masochist streak runs deep enough to force myself to read the other ones.

Though, I remember what it feels like to be a teenage girl in love and while parts of the book captured that drama, other parts of it failed terribly. Mostly it's the subpar writing and the characters that turned me off, there wasn't a single character I was rooting for. But when I was a teenage girl I didn't read this type of fluff either.

I know one fan in person, and she is more sensible then the online fans I've run into, who suffer from Harry Potter Syndrome; the curious disease that strikes a reader and they suffer dellusions that their favourite author is The Messiah and can do no wrong, and every word is gold. They wouldn't know good literature if it smacked them upside the head. I think the only cure is to introduce them to The Hobbit or A Wizard of Earthsea so they can see what they're missing. ;)

Wow...so I was convinced to read all of them by...people and I really feel like I wasted a good portion of my life. Those books were NOTHING but fluff. I would read..say...100 pages and the plot wouldn't progress at all. The characters feelings made no sense either. Why did Bella even like him? It never really explained that. "He was beeeeautiful"....aaand that's it? I don't get it.

Don't even get me started on the movie I was drug into. That was some of the worse acting and effects I've seen in such a hyped up movie. It's like the actors were taking themselves waaay too seriously. The ONLY thing I enjoyed was the end...where they played 15 Step by Radiohead.

I did a post about this in the Jonas brothers thread. Surprised I didn't see this one earlier. Anyway, onto my opinion.

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn are the manifestation of a middle-aged woman's wet dream. Literally. The story, though a good premise, is written worse than a 2 year-old's christmas card. I've read all four books, enjoyed all of them, and was actually a little excited for the movie....... Until Kristen-****ing-Stewert showed up. There's more acting skill in the road kill on the interstate than that woman. I (being a male) could have been a better Bella. The most acting in that movie was at the end when she was stuttering for an hour saying: "Wh- Ah- N- Wai- N- N- N- N- NO!" Yeah... She could have just ended it after the "Ah-".

Now for my raging about the fanbase. I haven't seen this much obsession since Ruroni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho first came out. My ears FINALLY stopped bleeding from watching the episode where Kurama/Hiei/Kenshin were shirtless at the anime club at my school. NOW I have to go through another year of theropy for the ringing. This fanbase is just stupid. I honestly think it's worse than Naruto now. I mean, the Naruto fanbase is huge and annoying(i.e. 20-30 year-olds going to the local card shop wearing Naruto jackets and Ninja Headbands), but at least they're not screaming constantly whenever someone mentions "Vampire", "Edward", "Twilight", or "Jacob".

Now, onto my main problem with the series(that's right, it's not the fanbase or terrible writing!), what she did to those poor poor vampires... I'm not one of those obsessed vampire fanatics who go around visiting 'Forums for the undead' or some **** and drinking tomato juice, but I do love the idea behind vampires. Evil, cunning, dark, and parasitic yet superior. But this woman just took the original story Dracula, threw it in her toilet set up dynamite held the door closed and let a torrent of **** that would put Night-shift nurses to shame fall on it, the proceeded to explode the dynamite.
This long description can be summed into one word: SPARKLY VAMPIRES.

tl;dr: Stephanie Meyer can't write, though she has good ideas. The Fanbase makes me want to go and rip my ears off my head Van Gogh style. Sparkly Vampires.

My girlfriend is 15 years old (3 years younger than me, don't you dare ****ing say what you're about to say). She said she wanted to come to my house to watch a movie she just bought (I'm not allowed over at her house because her parents would freak out at the idea of a fully grown man playing grab-*** with their little girl). Surprise surprise, it was ****ing Twilight.

Now, I knew she was a fan and all, but I never actually had to "confront" the problem. She spent the entire movie letting out these annoying (albeit cute) shrieks every time Edward did ANYTHING. She also gave me all sorts of fun-facts for half the movie, until I screamed "IDONTWANNAHEARIT" halfway through the movie.

Now, this just ruined her mood, and she decided to let off on me when the movie was over. "What's so wrong about liking Twilight?", she said to me. "Well, no offense, but it's just badly written wish fulfillment made by some fat virgin." Then she decided to set it off. She put on this twisted little smile, and said "Jamal, honey, you watch anime". You see where this is going, right?

I couldn't really fight any of the points she brought up. I mean, she knows I watch **** like Minami-ke and Kannagi, so saying anime is better written is out of the question. She even brought up how most of the audience for the newYatterman movie premiere we went to at comic-con were a bunch of shrieking fangirls, and how I spent the whole time we were there telling her fun facts about the character's origins.

How the hell do I get back at her?

I read all of the books, and watched the movie. I thought the books were alright, but I wasn't crazy for them like my friends. And I personally thought the movie could have been better. I hated Kristen Stewart in it, and Rob did a better job than I thought he would.

I work in a book store and everyone and their mom had been talking about Twilight for a while. I hadn't read it for the longest time but our store was throwing a party for the release of the fourth book. I was going to be involved so I figured I'd better be familiar with it. I read up to the third book...well, half of the third book anyway before I stopped. I still don't see what the big deal about it is. It's an okay series and I didn't like it enough to love it...or even hate it for that matter.

Bella is annoying, Edward is Mr. Perfect...their romance is irritating and overly dramatic. I liked the character of Jacob, but even he had his moments where he became an overbearing bucket of hormones. Whatever. This book series is perfect for teens. I can see why it appeals, but it's not for me. Don't get my wrong though--I love vampire stories and romance. Twilight just wasn't my cup of tea.

I am a fan of all four of the novels and the three current movies (the 3rd movie was the best so far.) However I do agree the teenyboppers that swoon over the actors who play Edward and Jacob drive me crazy and to be honest because of all the crazy teenyboppers I never wanted to read/watch the movies and I actually hated it at first because of it. You should have known the fandom was weird when they insist twilight's well written but can't for the life of them explain way it is. The books are okay as long as you count them as romance and not horror(which most people do because it has monsters). Honestly, it's not the books I hate, it's the fanbase because about half of them are FREAKING INSANE. For example, a shuriken thrown at someone's ear for not liking the books.
