Well if you remember this thread (http://www.animenation.net/forums/showthread.php?t=206600) I said that there'd be no way I'd like this series because of the art style, and other stuff. Well after taking a long hiatus to gather more episodes and get some other anime out of the way, I finally resumed and I must say, this series for me went from being alright to amazing!

I'm going to try and play some catchup now, but again this series should not be doubted.

No. It should not be. It's just awesomely fun to watch.:)

It's also good that it has it's own section on here once again.

I always wanted a One Piece forum here! And yes I agree that this series shouldn't be doubted because of the art style. This series has a great story and great characters. This is the only series where I enjoy the fillers. :D

When I first heard about One Piece, I was like wow this art style is crazy; it's so weird! When I actually watched it, I was amazed at how cool the One Piece World it is, and how it's drawn fit's it amazingly well. I'll praise One Piece all the time, and put it above the others. I already converted two people into One Piece addicts, so hopefully there will be more people in the future who finds One Piece to be amazing.

I think One Piece gets unfairly judged from it's looks more than most. Do people think it's kiddy at first glance? Or is it just the adjustment period to the art style? Once I saw pictures of it, I knew I needed to see it ASAP. I watched the first opening and saw Luffy with a wide smile that resembled Goku and it looked so interesting. I had to wait a while to do so because only HKs were available during that time period, but when K-F started up that all changed forever. I think more people are giving it a chance now because of the wide spread praise it receives. Unlike many others there are no knocks on One Piece. It keeps getting better, uses the character extremely well and knows what it wants to be. It's a perfect series to me and I wouldn't even know how to make it better if given the opportunity. No, it certainly should not be doubted.

I must admit I also doubted One Piece from the outset because it "looked kiddy".

However, after having started the manga, I just couldn't put it down and devoured all 400-some chapters that were out at the time, while kicking myself for not getting to know it earlier.

Although I haven't seen a single anime episode (it would be too much to go through by now), I still commend it as an excellent series that should get two chapters released per week, if that were possible.

The only downside to it is exactly it's lenght.

*Minor Spoilers, so no tags here*

Even after something like 45 volumes of manga, they still haven't visited all that many islands and they are still stuck in only one-quarter of the sea, if I recall correctly. I fear the scale of the story to be too grand for only one person to finish drawing it in his lifetime. Luffy's party is definitely strong by this point and that would mean it's drawing towars the end if we follow shounen standards, but I would be slightly disapointed if we were to not see another dozen islands or so.

Ha, can't complain with the awesomeness that it is, though.

My doubts probably started from style of the artwork, along with some of the early advertising for the show (damn you 4kids). I guess you could say that, after being around guys like Hisoka long enough, I caved in and watched it, and have loved it since.

Yeah, doubting a show based on initial appearance or stupid things like that has held me back, and many of the shows I initially avoiding (Fruits Basket, One Piece and Lucky Star come to mind) for such reasons, I've come to love.

I only read its manga for now and when I first saw its book cover, I thought it's another kiddy manga as well. After I read it, it has become one of my all time favorite anime. I have read up to vol. 45 now and I'm very satisfy with this series. ^.^

I always be like that too. Another series that I don't think it's good based from the art style is GTO, which is also one of my favorite anime along side with One Piece. ^^;

For me, I used to be stupid and put off a long series due to its length, but I stopped doing that crap a while ago. I guess that's why I didn't really watch One Piece until months after my online friends were getting on me about watching it. I'm glad I ended up watching it. I was enjoying it right from episode 1 when Luffy called that lady an old hag or whatever. I remember I watched the entire Kuro arc all in one sitting. I started watching it back in September of 2006. It took me basically three months to watch from episode 1 to near episode 220ish. Since K-F was subbing the show so slowly, I ended up watching most of the Davy Back stuff very slowly as they were releasing it. I don't know why the hell I was bothering waiting for K-F, but I'm glad I didn't. I watched all the episodes released by Geru-sama, ADC Elites, and Vegapunk up to episode 325, in about a mere three weeks, after having taken a break from One Piece for several months. Lets just say Water 7 and Enies Lobby were two awesome arcs. Not to mention Franky is awesome.

I won't be watching One Piece anytime again soon though. The new arc has started up already and I'll wait until the current arc is over to start watching One Piece again.

Ive never doubted One Piece but just never really checked it out i knew it was a anime about pirates and that was it.
I dont think theres anything wrong with the art at all aside from being a little different but different is good.
Im on episode 100 at the moment and its just been one great adventure theres so many different stories for each Character and all have joined together to help each other out on there way.
Zoro is my fav from the series and his story is probably the most interesting one for me he has some gap to close on Mihawk if he is to accomplish his goal and that really is saying something because when Zoro has 3 swords in his hands and mouth he is a monster.

Like most of you I was turned off by the art style figuring it was a kids series and seeing a couple episodes of the 4Kids version I dismissed it; but my brothe swore by the show and having read comments about 4kids hatchet jobs and basicly having a dead period where everything I was watching was in fillers I tried it out via K-F and haven't looked back since.
My favorite parts so far are the Cocoyoshi arc, Zoro's quest to be the greatest swordsman, and of course the Water 7 and Enies lobby arcs. Some of the best storytelling EVER.There is a reason why Shonen Jump fan polls list this as one of their favorite manga series of all time behind only Dragonball and Slam dunk.

4Kids version did suck THAT badly, really. It really did. I watched the dub regardless, because somehow, I was able to enjoy the action (though I could tell from experience that 4kids edited the HELL out of it). I read various post that praised the One Piece sub, so all along, I was hoping that the show got relicensed, but a company that was NOT 4kids. Finally, that dream has come true, and One Piece is already ALOT better. Hopefully, it can regain the fandom it lost during the Alabasta arc, due to 4kids' horrible rendition of that arc.

^ Oh you're missin' out on a great series ^_^ . Yeah I wasn't up of another Shounen marathon series either, but One Piece was just that good. It's amazing and the art style works really well with the series.

Whats a shounen-marathon series? a series like Bleach/dragonballz/naruto?

Silly me forget to post my actual comment on this subject. Unlike most of you girls and guys the drawing style isn't what turned me off initially (hell I praise One Piece for having its own style). I watched Naruto (and Bleach shortly after) initially and after seeing the first few major fights in these two I fell in love with them (Naruto still being my favorite right now). I tryed watching a fight in One Piece, The axe-hand morgan fight, and I was put off, keep in mind this was the 4-kids dub I was watching. Then about a month ago a friend online finally got me to start it from episode two, and as each fight got better and better (I just passed the Crocodile fight and Gomu Gomu no Storm was epic) I haven't looked back yet. Out of the 3, One Piece is probably my 3rd favorite after Naruto and Bleach, but its comedy outdoes both many times over and does it while keeping the seriousness of the storyline and battles.

I love OP. But it took me a while to get used to the serie, because I didn' t watch the original version first, but the dub (it wasn' t 4kids dub, but a dub from another country, and it' s just bad, but better than 4kids anyway).

Sadly, i started watching One Piece by buying the 4Kids dubbed DVDs..i didn't know 4Kids had a habbit of ruining shows. i have volumes 1-7 on DVD. After i learned that 4kids sucks, i started downloading the original versions

I strayed from it because of the 4Kids dub, and I thought the premise (even in the original) sounded stupid. But, I gave it another chance after dealing with the manga in SJ, once FUNi began dubbing it.

Surprise, it's not so bad after all! ^_^
