Ever hear a song like this? It's scary, no?
Some of my faves include:
Eve of Destruction-Barry McGuire
In The Year 2525-Zager and Evans

Good song hold merit no matter how long its been since they were written, it all depends on the listener. As long as someone likes it, it will always have merit.
But I suppose you meant songs that still have same significance today as they did in the old days, yes?

Yeah, I don't mean like they're still good. I mean they're lyrics/meaning are as though they were talking about today.

Phil Ochs' "Love Me, I'm a Liberal" still rings true: http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~trent/ochs/lyrics/liberal.html
And, most anything by Bob Dylan is timeless....

"Hotel California" by The Eagles. because one of the lines says "We havent had that spirit here since 1969". when it was written, that was only a few years ago. so when somebody today listens to it, it makes it a long time ago.
then the other picks of mine are:
Stairway to Heaven
everything made by the Beatles
Freebird
and the only Bob Dylan song i can think of right now that i like is "Hurricane".
