-- Rapper T.I. was arrested on federal gun charges just hours before he was scheduled to perform at the BET Hip Hop Awards, according to federal authorities.
The entertainer, whose real name is Clifford Harris, was arrested in a federal sting Saturday after his bodyguard-turned-informant delivered three machine guns and two silencers to the hip-hop star, according to a Justice Department statement.

Yeah stockpiling weapons while on parole is a stupid stunt for publicy and cred, never mind the facts that's he one of the most well known rappers atm and has tons of street cred.
Stupid? In every way possible. Stunt? lol. Cya in 10 years T.I
Ja Rule and Fabolous getting busted with a handgun while they have clean sheets is a stupid publicly stunt. Buying a massive arsenal of high caliber weaponry while on parole and having already been to jail is no publicly stunt.

It's an interesting world where one earns "street cred" by being a complete idiot. I guess I'm not hip, because I thought the good criminals (the ones smart enough to get away with it and stay out of jail) were the ones with the credibility.
Has this subculture gone so far downhill that they have to look up to blithering incompetents as role models?

I dont get it either. I have more 'respect" for the criminal that can play the system, and get away with things (mafia anyone?) than some punk on the streets begging to get arrested

This isn't about street cred in this case, it's a classic case of "you can get the boy out of the ghetto, but can't get the ghetto out of the boy", really. If I'm correct, he came from the ghetto and ran around with some gangs and all. It's not surprising you will find rappers loaded in some way because there ARE people trying to kill you if you get too popular, take a look at Tupac and Biggie, and Jam Master Jay.
Unforunately, the rap culture is too emersed with the gang culture as well. It's very common to find a rapper who was a former ganbanger. Stuff like that don't completely leave you unfortunately. And sometimes being associated with a certain rapper can get you killed.
Also the hyper macho attitude that rappers try to implify plays a factor. The harder you are, the more respected and popular you get among your audience and peers, which usually lead to some stupid decision later down the road. That happened with Tupac and other rappers who had clean records and didn't run around with gangs.
And the 'no snitching' thing is stupid, but I can see why there is a such thing. It's no new thing that there's always been tension between the cops and Black people living in the ghetto. And all that distrust, especially when something event like Sean Bell happens, encourage such a practice to start and flourish.
And please, Al Shapton will not be at his side. Shapton and other civil right activitists are against rappers like TI and tried to stop rap from being a cesspool like it's now, but you can't do anything when a majority of your buyers are teenage white kids from the suburbs. And TI will not be the first or last rapper thrown in jail because of illegal guns (Shyne is still serving time for that).

^ I dont think people are trying to kill you cause you are a popular rapper. They are trying to kill you cause you are a rival gang member.
Lets face it...these idiots sing about trying to get out of the ghetto, but when they do, they continue to associate with their fellow gang members.
and no snitching isnt about cops vs. blacks. It is about some idiots keeping criminals ON the streets.

I doubt it has anything to do with street cred, and if it wasn't for his bodyguard looking for a way out of being sentenced, he wouldn't be in this situation.
And also, I doubt Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton will be rushing to his aide. They're usually quick to blame everything on rap music anyways.

Au contaire. This is prolly why Jam Master Jay got killed since he was helping one aspiring rapper with an album and this rapper was suspected to be in a gang. Plus living in one of the worst Brooklyn neighborhoods and living pretty much next door to the worst neighborhood of them all, you do see this kinda thing happening. Now my old neighborhood calmed down considerably since there was a gun ring bust a few years back, now there's cops everywhere. But anyway, the last funeral my family went to was this young kid who got killed because some fool tried to kill his friend, because of some gang mess, killed him instead because he was that gangbanger's friend.
But to quote Biggie, "The mo' money you get, the mo' problems you'll get". If you were a former gangbanger, that history will follow you forever, basically. So if your former rivals or former allies see you get richer, you expect one of them to come after your head after a while. It's crazy, I know.
And the no-snitching culture IS moronic, but if the cops and the community that don't support such a stupid want to beat it, they have to join together.
so they got mad cause someone was throwing free money at them?
Dang, this gang/rapper culture makes no sense to me
It depends on how they did it, although it looks like a classic case of jealousy gone wrong.

You can own firearms in NJ, and you can transport them. You can buy them and sell them. There are simply different regulations on how to do this.
NJ is mighty strict on guns, I'll grant you, but to say "you can't own or carry" is a vast oversimplification, bordering on NRA scare tactic propaganda. Of course you can own and carry, you just have to be familiar with how to do it.
I lived in Massachusetts, which also has some mighty funny rules about that sort of thing. It was a big shock, coming from Maine. Everybody's got guns in Maine. A kid in my class used to carry one to school, everyone knew it, and while he was considered a tad eccentric, it wasn't a big deal. The only thing people in Maine worry about is idiots who don't know how to handle them properly.

Exactly. I bet he would of been a hero at Virginia Tech. Of course it was a 'gun free zone' so it guaranteed no opposition.
NDs laws are pretty nice. You just gotta take a short test, and fill out a form with a small fee. But you can't carry in schools or to a public gathering.
I am not too worried about a school shooting at a high school here. At my school we always had an armed police officer there, he was awesome.
But you are right, even if you are allowed to carry, of course you have to be able to handle it responsibly.

See you guys got it wrong, a gun doesn't protect your home this is what does (NYC's example):
A large police force and laws that are so strict you can't spit anywhere near a cop.
And most importantly, and most effective: capitalism. Price out all the poor people you can find. It works. Really. There's little to no crime where I live and even less where my parents live (a pricier neighborhood). By extension I think that also means hipsters prevent crime

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but none of those were machine guns. You can tell by the names displayed on the video that they were all pretty much semi auto knockoffs, and even the ones that are identical in name and looks to there full auto version(mac and ak) have alot more semi versions than the machine gun versions out in public and it would seem more releastic that he got the semi auto. I can't speak for the silencers though, the one on the mac looks like a "fake" silencer sold for looks purposes but the ones on the beretta's looked real. Anyways the media loves to use the word machine gun for any gun that looks like it has a place in some hollywood action movie or battlefield, there was a story awhile ago where the media went so far as to call a tec 9 used in some crime a " semi auto machine pistol, WTF?

Unless he's got a Class III receiver or RDIAS (or got a black market DIAS or Military Lower Receiver), that Bushy AR Pistol ain't gonna be full auto.
