Potatoes last for freaking forever, never rot, and actually grow stuff even if you just leave them sitting in a sack. As opposed to sitting still and being pretty, your girlfriend sounds like she enjoys doing stuff. The same goes with the potato: you can do so much with it! Back on topic, gift cards are a very bad idea. What you need to get her is something that's special between you and her. Something that only you know she would like.

My last girlfriend's birthday was a disaster. I got her a basket of stuff from Bath and Body works with some of her favorite kinds of scented soaps and what not. She loved the gift, but she was REALLY upset that I didn't throw her a huge surprise party... Apparently she's always had big surprise parties for her birthday and since I hadn't known her for a full year at that point (only about 8 months) I was unaware of that. Anyway I realized she wasn't the girl for me because of all her whining about her birthday, along with her sudden change to constantly criticize everything I ever did.

Movie dates suck. Then again, the only movie date I went on was with a total prude. What's worse, we saw Men in Black II: Electric Boogaloo. I will always hate the Fourth of July for as long as I live now... damn Hollywood movies.
