I'm trying out for my school's musical production of 'Grease', for either Sandy or Frenchy. I have to sing Hopelessly Devoted to You for the audition, and I am soooooo nervous, because this is my first time going for a lead in a musical. Any tips for me?

Thanks. I'll keep you all posted.

Maybe you should ask Rain for advice.

It's all right to be nervous. Preform well. And post your records here.

Maybe you should ask Rain for advice.

I auditioned for a professional talent agency, so for one thing: looks matter more... or even most. What matters for Kali-chan is her singing; looks are secondary.

However, I will say a few things: letting your confidence shine through is the most important thing, and if you mess up, KEEP GOING. Many contestants messed up during the auditions yesterday, and one judge rolled her eyes and looked away whenever a contestant messed up. It might be rude, but hey, I don't blame that judge for acting that way. In addition, I'm positive that stage presence and charisma are important, so make sure you've got those. Oh, and project your voice when you're singing, please, because some contestants were not singing from their throats with support from the diaphragm, and they were barely audible.

Last but not least: DON'T BE NERVOUS; RELAX AND HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Upload a video of Chocolate Rain the Kali-Chan remix, and see how many hits you get.

Otherwise, what I've learned is if you are nervous, then you'll screw up, so don't be nervous, and you'll do great. Remember, you're doing a favor to those in the audience, they aren't deserving of your performance, they are peons, so you have nothing to be nervous about.

Just go out there and sing. You'll get it or you won't. nothing more to it than that.

Hmmm, I've auditioned for/been in literally dozens of musicals and plays, but I can't think of any advice except for obvious things like stay calm and drink a lot of water.

Audition for all of the female leads. That way your teacher/director can get a better feel for your voice and that they know you're willing to try anything.

Wow, so many responses!

Thanks guys. I've been practicing a lot lately, and I'm feeling more confident now.

Psychologist, not psychiatrist. OP doesn't need meds.

Just practice, do your best, and if you get it, good job. If not, then you at least can say you worked hard and will try again another time, right?

My voice cracked, but that's because I'm sick, and I don't like the low notes in the song. Other than that, I think I did pretty well, and the teacher said I was great.

Callbacks are next week...

The cast list is out the week after...
