View Full Version : Shippuuden Episode 28 *SPOILERS*

Absolutely horrible episode. 98% was the Team Gai battle, but at least it finally ended, with Lee figuring out how to win. The clones are as strong as when they first released the seal. His great battle strategy? Despite being smacked around for all this time, they have to become stronger than they were when they released the seals. Somehow this is considered a wonderful idea, and just deciding to become stronger makes you stronger. One short barrage from each of them defeated their respective clones.
There didn't seem to be any background music for the first 9 minutes or so either, so things seemed even worse during the Team Gai battling.
At least next week is an hour long special.

lol, sounds awful. I don't remember them necessarily discussing how they were defeated in the manga, but that's pretty lame. Here's an idea. They fight the same as you, so how bout just script they can't adapt anymore and have everyone exploit their own weaknesses. It's not that hard.

Better idea would have been to find a way to switch opponents. Tenten's the weakest, so all Gai would have to do is hold off one of the Lee/Neji clones while the other one helped Tenten easily defeat her clone. Then Tenten could have assisted her helper to defeat his clone in a 2 on 1 fight. Then they could move to a 3 on 1 and the last guy would be unlucky enough to be going 4 on 1.

Pretty meh episode. But did anyone notice how they kinda just stuck Tenten in the ending, with her sulking sitting on the ground. I laughed a little when I saw that.

yeah that episode was teh suck. I have decided that is the worst powerup ever in the history of anime. Its great that Team Gai had a daily affirmation to become stronger. Only good thing is the team gai crap fight is over. No ep next week, and then a 1hr special on the 27th. This skipping every other week crap sucks. Question.... If Neiji is a Jounnin nin now, why is he still in team Gai? How bout this idea..... since team gai decided to just "get stronger" and easily whipped their clones, shouldn't team gai have been defeated already since their defense must have been that weak to start? And shouldn't the clones have been able to use those same techniques back against team gai that they used to win?

The worst Naruto + Shippuuden episode released to date. I thought, maybe, just maybe, they would release the gates or something, but no, just pretend you're stronger, and you are. Great plan.

They didn't have much of anything to work with from the manga in regards to that fight, so it seemed like a good way to conclude their respective encounters. The anime does make the clone fight seem more difficult than it was in the manga though. Anyway, there few "good" ways for them to win their fights without totally changing the canon, so this is acceptable.

I was saying to my sister that they should just switch opponents as they were getting nowhere fight their own clones. Pretty boring episode this week. Im starting to go back to Bleach now that the story has picked up again.

During that part in the manga, that's what I assumed they would do, since it's logical, but since the fight was finished with each of them standing over the remains of their respective opponent, it didn't leave much room for that idea to be implemented in the anime.

There's bad news...there's no episode next week. We'll have to wait another two weeks before anymore Naruto. :(

I would say this is good news. If they skip a week, they will have to come out with a double episode, which has a much higher chance of having worthwhile watching time in it.

As long as they start the fight between Naruto Kakashi and Deidara finally I'll be happy, they have been jumping on those logs for almost 10 episodes now. The show just keeps dragging on and on and on, they need to get on with it already.

I don't read the manga so I don't know but it seems like there won't be much fight against Deidara.

Agreed, they're probably across the Earth now. But I wonder how is Deidara going to fight without his explosive clay...

Blind them with his camera flash?
I think Deidara's a robot.

So Deidara is still missing an arm (from Gaara's attack)? Or did he somehow regenerate it? He doesn't seem to care about missing an arm...

This episode was...disappointing. I command the animators on trying not to stuff too much non-canon material this early in Shippuden, but 25 minutes of Team Gai smacking and getting smacked around is not my idea of an episode worth watching. I was tempted early on in the episode to fast-forward through Team Gai's fights, thinking that at some point, the focus would return to Naruto and Kakashi or Sakura and Chiyo, but I didn't, telling myself I would just bear with it and watch Team Gai's fights. Maybe I should have just skipped over everything. I would have spared myself from wasting 15 extra minutes of my day.

Deidara doesn't have time to worry about his missing arm, I think. He's a member of Akatsuki, and so he has to keep his senses about himself. He probably is pissed about his arm, but he doesn't seem to show it ( it's strange, it doesn't seem to concern him mentally either).
Too bad his other arm is about to get... taken away.

Why doesn't his hand bleed or something?

Why doesn't his hand bleed or something?
Maybe he's sealing the wound with clay, so he doesn't lose blood? Even if missing a hand doesn't seem to affect him mentally (although you have to admit, these Akatsuki guys are pretty crazy to begin with; it doesn't really surprise me if some of them aren't too bothered by things such as losing a limb), eventually his body is going to feel the effects of blood loss, whether he likes it or not, and it's going to affect his performance in battle.
Either that, or the animators screwed up. I'm more inclined to think the latter, to tell the truth (since this isn't the first time I've witnessed this sort of animation mistake), but my first theory is just as plausible.

Actually, I just realised that if you think about it, the 'just be stronger than we were when they appeared' isn't necessarily a crap plan. It is certainly possible. When you're fighting, it's doubtful you'll be going all out on your opponent the instant the fight begins. You're more likely to fight in a bit of moderation, as you probably don't want to waste anymore energy on an opponent weaker than you, than you absolutely have to. So, assuming Lee, Gai, Neji and Tenten began the fights with that form of moderation, if they suddenly went all out, it is possible that they could become stronger than they were at the start.

When they're fighting, yes. Seem to do that a lot in anime. Toy around with their opponent, even though that makes no sense when they're in a time crunch.
When YOU'RE fighting, no. Don't use that tactic. May be one less poster on our boards.

Yep. Winning through guts and determination also fits well with Team Gai.

if the clones were indeed exact copies, then they should have the same guts and determination :P

The only reason they didn't go all out at the start of the battle is that as every good fighter knows (Apart from naruto but thats what makes him him) you need to pace yourself to save strength for when you can attack a opening that your opponent gives you.
By the time they "figured out" how to beat the clones they should have been massively tied so they couldn't have gone all out at that point. They should have had Guy and Lee open the gates to beat their clones then have them team up on the other clones. That would have made a lot more sense to me.

It was never explained how the clones could use all of the character's techniques effectively, but I would assume that while the clones had the same physical abilities and strengths, they had no "inner strength" due to being the product of a jutsu. It's most likely that which ever Akatsuki was responsible for those clones had them pre-programmed either through templates for various styles of fighting or... it somehow exactly copied the brain of the character... although that in itself doesn't make sense, so I would go with the former.
Anyway, my interpretation of the manga at this point disagrees with the anime's interpretation. In the manga, it seemed like those clones gave them relatively little difficulty, but in the anime the clones were just over-powered. I still think that a few panels explaining Team Gai's victory would've been helpful.
