:D Its that time again and one of the only reasons I pay for cable. Coming off one of the more busier off seasons I'm looking forward to this year to be even more unpredictable. Time to break out the team jersey's and represent. All rants, raves, and predictions.

Of course I have alot to rave about my Cowboys as I do every year, feel really good about this team this year. Tony's got a better and improved(expensive) line in front of him, same threats offensively. Got some new blood on D to rise to the occasion, hopefully Wade can help out us out in this department as he did in San Diego. Other than the secondary holding up the balls in Tony's court, don't see any other reason why this can't be THE year.

Anyway my first week picks, first weeks are always hard but this one is extremely tough. Even the obvious are not so obvious anymore.

Week 1

*Kickoff Thursday*New Orleans at Indianapolis: Saints Could be a fairly high score.
Atlanta at Minnesota: ATL This is one team I see going downhill but I think they have enough to win this one even with Joey(luckiest QB in the league).
Carolina at St. Louis: Rams
Denver at Buffalo: Buffalo
Kansas City at Houston: Texans The Schaub takes the helm.
Miami at Washington: Skins
New England at NY Jets: Pats All eyes on the supposed favorite this year
Philadelphia at Green Bay: Philly
Pittsburgh at Cleveland: Steelers
Tennessee at Jacksonville: Titans I'm still pissed they let Byron go, I hope they crash and burn.
Chicago at San Diego: Chargers
Detroit at Oakland: Raiders toss up
Tampa Bay at Seattle: Seattle
NY Giants at Dallas: Cowboys It begins :)
Baltimore at Cincinnati: Cinci Could be close.
Arizona at San Francisco: Cardinals

I'm surprised you picked Buffalo over Denver. True, even champ Bailey doesn't have the skills to make himself run faster, but that D is good, and there's no way the Bills D Line can handle the force of nature that is an offensive line wearing bronco's jersey (seriously, does it matter who they put in? they always run the ball well)

Oak-Det is the ultimate loser showdown. The loser should get the first overall pick. Any favorites for who they should pick?

Chicago-SD should be worth watching, and I'd say is the runner up to the opener for game of the week.

Not sure that Cinci beats the ravens, D does generally beat O, but who knows.
I don't know what to make of Panthers-Rams or Titans-Jags

Atlanta at Minnesota- Minnesota, why because I think they may have found a balance between the offense and defense this year.

Detroit at Oakland- Lions because I though they looked good in the preseason and they can pull it off, at lest to the point of a win here.

He's got the tools but I gotta see something(beyond just five games).

Any favorites for who they should pick?I don't know why I give Daunte(if he's starting) the beneft of the doubt, he just a dude I want to see do something regardless of how flawed he is. That tough Raiders D is pretty much left unchanged which is why I'm going with them.

I think indy will win over the saints, but it will be a great offensive showdown wither way.

I don;t know how I missed the Atlanta pick. Falcons are on the oakland level of sucking this year. vikigns win

Theres no question bout their offensive line, I'm just not entirely sold on Jay yet. He's got the tools but I gotta see something(beyond just five games).

In case you missed the travesty that is the bills run defense, Jay just needs to hand the ball off. Pass d isn't looking so hot this year either.

Harrington has never been on a team with that much talent. And we all know even a Joey Harrington is capable of passing better than a Vick.

harrington's passing ability is barely better than Vick's. Vick had good arm strength, but lacked acuracy/awareness. Vick's running ability is in another league from Joey's.

Think its a bust either way under Petrino's pass heavy system, at least with Vick you got his legs and cannon to improvise. With Dunn as their only ground threat now its hard to tell how their going to end up. Bet they wish they had Matt right about now.

The Saints do not have the best offense in football this year. The Colts and Pats will definetly have better offenses.

Reggie Bush once again proving his vast overratedness.

I agree to an extent. Last year, when he was still a first year rookie, he couldn't run through the middle too well, because his whole college career was going wide, since the college football fields are wider than NFL fields, so you could run around the defense easier. He needs to work on that, and he has been. But regardless, he's still a good RB in my opinion, and in most people's opinions.

Dallas isnt as good as people think, Romo got figured out last year. We'll see. Everyone does eventually, this'll be his first full season to shine or flop. But I'll stay confident, he did help em get to the post despite growing pains. Honestly with the weapons they got you could be lackluster and still get it done. That punk Eli is going down.

Naraku
September 7th, 2007, 09:40 PM
I think Romo is definitely an above average quarterback, and a deserving Pro Bowler. The only question marks on Dallas are still offensive line, and secondary.

I don't think the Saints will run away with the NFC this year either. I expect that hot offense from last year to cool off this season. Plus, with only an average defense they are going to get scored on a lot. I agree with Reggie Bush being overrated. He can make a big play maybe once a game, but any skill player in the NFL is capable of that.

Pheew -_-; too close for comfort on too many occasions but Cowboys came through, what a ridiculous score. Tony showed some real poise, he was spreading it around like crazy wearing them down. Marion was great as usual, T.O. came alive late but it was well needed, Patrick filled number 2 with no problem.
Giants were alot tougher than I thought, especially Eli he really exploited our weak side. Hope Terrance comes back soon. Awesome first game

Caine
September 13th, 2007, 01:39 PM
^Mangini is a Belicheck disciple, many other coaches in the league aren't. when you've got proof of your mangini claim, and similar proof for guys like Dungy, Smith, Jauron, Phillips, Turner, Reid, and Edwards, then i might accept a claim that "they all do it"

From what I've been hearing on the radio, it sounds like this is nothing new. Martz and Lewis both had their headphones cut out when playing in foxborough. Weis told Kiffin "we knew all your calls and you still stopped us" in 2000. If all of this is true, then the league's punishment will be not only well deserved, but probably too little.

They all cheat lets make no mistake about that. I really hate hearing that but I have to concede, wouldn't say all but alot do. Reading signs and plays is nothing new, its the reason mouths are covered and mics are in helmets. This is just taking up another level. There are coaches who to do it fair and there are a good majority who don't. Belichick just got caught and fined from what I gather, their even losing a first rounder. Personally think the game should be taken, even though it was the Jets(not a bad team mind you).

On a Cowboys side note, T. Glenn had his 2nd surgery and theres no telling when he's coming back :( But Newman might be back sooner than expected :) They really need him.

Week 2 Picks

Atlanta at Jacksonville: Jags
Buffalo at Pittsburgh: Steelers
Cincinnati at Cleveland: Cinci
Green Bay at NY Giants: Gmen Whoevers starting QB I think the Giants with tough it out.
Houston at Carolina: Panthers Could be alot closer.
Indianapolis at Tennessee: Indy I'm a gambling man and I so want to go with the Titans ^_^
New Orleans at Tampa Bay: Saints
San Francisco at St. Louis: Rams
Dallas at Miami: Big D Heres hoping Tony's still #1 at weeks end.
Minnesota at Detroit: Lions
Seattle at Arizona: Seattle
Kansas City at Chicago: Da Bears
NY Jets at Baltimore: Ravens
Oakland at Denver: Denver
San Diego at New England: Pats They got the blueprints :P
Washington at Philadelphia: Skins Philly always starts off this way, their D doesn't nearly have the same firepower right now.

Caine
September 13th, 2007, 08:22 PM
^The Bills game interests me this week. Logically, the Steelers should steamroll them. Pittsburgh would be favored were the Bills at full health, and Buffalo won't see anything resembling full health this year. The question is mental and emotional. Does the Everett situation make the Bills better or worse?

I always struggle with picking close mathes involving NE. I want to believe they will lose, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Still, Belicheck's cheating won't counter LT's brilliance or Merriman's own enhancements, IF they can return to previous form.

Week 3

Arizona at Baltimore: Ravens
Buffalo at New England: Pats
Detroit at Philadelphia: Philly Their looking mighty awful but they gotta win some time, a loss wouldn't shock me though.
Indianapolis at Houston: Indy I swear every Colts game my gamblers sense tingles :P Schaub's missing one of his weapons this week but I'll still root for em to keep it close.
Miami at NY Jets: Jets
Minnesota at Kansas City: KC
San Diego at Green Bay: Chargers
San Francisco at Pittsburgh: Steelers
St. Louis at Tampa Bay: Rams
Cincinnati at Seattle: Cinci As ugly as their D looked last week I still think Palmer can out gun them.
Cleveland at Oakland: Raiders Silver & Black get their first here, Raiders D is alot tighter than Cinci's even if Browns bring the same fire.
Jacksonville at Denver: Denver
Carolina at Atlanta: Panthers
NY Giants at Washington: Skins
Dallas at Chicago: D'Boys Good matchup right here :) It still boggles my mind seeing the odds having Big D the underdog, I know its not inconceivable with Chicago's D as the factor but on both sides of the ball Dallas is more well rounded. Not to say it won't be a tough one for Tony(and it will) but Rex will be in twice the trouble.

The Bills won. Our battered D managed to come up with some plays, and between the starter McGee and the backup Greer, do what they couldn't do in week 1.
The second coming of Kelly he ain't, but Edwards did well. 22/28 is good normally, its great for a rookie starting his first game.

One hell of nail biter that was. Jason Garrett wasn't much of a QB as Aikman's #2 but he's a damn good offensive coordinator. Romo finally shook off his mistakes and came back to put the Bills in their proper place. The head coach needs to be fired so that Philips can truly enjoy his retribution.

^^why are you so afraid of the Cowboys? They barely beat the Biils practice squad by a point.
George Wilson had an interception. After Geoge Wilson the depth chart goes to drawing lots amongst the other backups
I admit, the Bills were unprecedentedly healthy, with a whopping seven defensive starters (to match the number of safeties and linebackers injured)
The Bills did their best to lose that game, and they barely managed to.
The Patriots come in and demolish us with their backups annually, and Indy didn't even bother running up the score last time; the Cowboys aren't in the same class.

The Cowboys team showed a lot of weaknesses. They may be the class of the NFC, but that's a far cry from the class of the NFL.

I'M SO SORRY. OFF BY 4 YARDS. THAT'S ALMOST A WHOLE LINE, BUT NOT REALLY. It's still more than half the field.

And that's the BS call I was talking about.

so you had one BS call (not multiple BS calls as you previously stated) that had no real impact?

4 yards is actually 4 lines, but who's keeping track?

Calling a timeout at the last minute has been happening for years. the league sees no problem with it. keep whining, it'll keep happening.

I hate the Patriots with a burning passion, but the beatdowns they lay down are domination in its finest form. They have a better QB than the Cowboys, a better O line, a better receiving corp, a better RB compliment, a better secondary, a slight edge in the front seven, and a better coach. The NFC is the lesser division, with the cream of the NFC crop barely beating the AFC punching bag Bills.

The timeout is a legitamate call on the part of the refs. they should follow the rules as they are, and they allow for those timeouts. so we're back to one bad call and you hating the rules.

I believe too my man, this game can be won. Big D's not going to roll over for them, its going to be closer than their given credit for. Ware and Ellis are going to be on the war path for Brady, as weak as half the secondary is(even though they lead in picks) Terrance not a 100% is still more mustard than most of the guys around. Think alot don't realize how strong and fast the rest of this D is, their o-line is gonna feel it by 2nd half. Julius and Marion have got to have a good game, no questions bout that.
Besides QB and Coach edging them which is a big duh considering ours are still in their first full year, all other facets of this team being better is debatable.

Think alot don't realize how strong and fast the rest of this D is,

let's start here. Dallas D is strong and fast, but its not the best in coverage

their o-line is gonna feel it by 2nd half. Julius and Marion have got to have a good game, no questions bout that.

they have to have a good game or they will have a big game? big difference there. Pats have a strong, if aging, LB corp, and a number of Pro Bowlers in that front seven. Besides, Romo has to watch out for Wilfork going late and low
Besides QB and Coach edging them which is a big duh considering ours are still in their first full year
wrong. Wade has been a head coach for full seasons. As for Romo, so many wax poetic about his skills, but he's no Brady. He's not Favre, he's not Manning, he's not Brady. Could he be that good? He has the potential, but those QB's each own at least one ring, at least one MVP award, and two have surpassed some of Marino's records. Those three are all guaranteed first balloters. Romo hasn't even secured his spot yet.
all other facets of this team being better is debatable.

then let's debate. TO and Moss are about equal. Stallworth, Welker, and Wahington provide the deepest WR group in the NFL, and Watson is about equal to Witten, though Witten has a very slight edge. Even giving the edge to TO and Witten, Welker and Stallworth give the Patriots the edge here.

Maroney is a fine starter (though he may be injured) and Morris and Faulk provide great depth. Barber and Jones is a good one two punch, but Faulk's versatility, the depth provided by Morris, and the fact that Maroney's a better starter, give the edge to Patriots again. Its close, but the Patriots have distinct advantages.

The front Seven has to go to NE. Dallas is excellent up front, but NE is redicuous. Seymour, Wilfork, Thomas, Bruschi, Seau, Vrabel. That could pass for a pro-bowl line up. The only knock is age.

In the Secondary, Dallas almost makes it, but while Roy Williams may be the best safey for palying agianst the run, Harrison has better cover skills. Samuel is one of the best in the league, and Hobbs is more than capable. Wilson's soliid. The safeties cover skills give the Patriots the edge.

Needless to say its going to be an awesome game and a true test.
I hope it will be an awesome game, but Buffalo should have been a blowout, and the patriots have a history of humbling the proud.

they have to have a good game or they will have a big game? big difference there. I'm not sugar coating it, they HAVE too. T.O. is going to be covered like white on rice and they know Witten is our safety valve. Our 1-2 punch has to relieve pressure, turning it into a strict air battle is risky.

wrong. Wade has been a head coach for full seasons.Should of been more specific, first year with this team. Belichick has had far more time to tool and tweak the Pats.

TO and Moss are about equal. Stallworth, Welker, and Wahington provide the deepest WR group in the NFL, and Watson is about equal to Witten, though Witten has a very slight edge. Even giving the edge to TO and Witten, Welker and Stallworth give the Patriots the edge here.I'll give em the edge in recieveing corp, without Terry our deep threat is lost and Patrick hasn't promoted much confidence as #2 though he has been adequate.

but Buffalo should have been a blowout, and the patriots have a history of humbling the proud.Yeah it should of been but hey, **** happens. Truth will be told on Sunday bitter or sweet.

Philly-Jets could be one for the blooper reels. that, TB-TEN, and CAR-ARI are all close ones.Yeah with the way Donovan and Chad(if he doesn't get benched) are playing it should be a sight. Titan and Bucs is going to be good, then with CAR-ARI you have a possible battle of the old farts .

The Patriots have few remaining obstacles between them and 16-0.

Dallas is the team with the best chance of representing the NFC in the SB. That said, there are still a few other teams to be wary of. The Pack could be dangerous, especially if they're looking to let Favre retire on another ring. The Saints, Bears, and Seahawks could all get back into shape. The Pack could be dangerous, especially if they're looking to let Favre retire on another ring. The Saints, Bears, and Seahawks could all get back into shape.Bears still need an offensive identity, their D alone will keep them in the mix. Seahawks are very sporadic right now, Matt and Shaun seem really off their game. Saints I can see rebound.
If Jake were healthy I throw the Panthers in as the biggest threat, who knows maybe Carr could come through. If the Bucs get a decent ground game going they'd be something to look out for, Jeff seems to be fitting in there nicely.
And I'

8-5 last week, lets keep it going.
Week 7
Arizona at Washington: Redskins
Atlanta at New Orleans: Saints
Baltimore at Buffalo: Ravens
Minnesota at Dallas: Big D Time to take out some frustration.
New England at Miami: Pats
San Francisco at NY Giants: Gmen
Tampa Bay at Detroit: Bucs
Tennessee at Houston: Texans Titans could still pull it off with the shape Vince is in.
Kansas City at Oakland: Raiders toss up
NY Jets at Cincinnati: Cinci
Chicago at Philadelphia: Philly They should wear those fugly uniforms for good luck.
St. Louis at Seattle: Seahawks
Pittsburgh at Denver: Steelers
Indianapolis at Jacksonville: Indy You can never be too certain with this matchup, some teams just own some teams.

8-6 last week, not too bad.

Week 8
Cleveland at St. Louis: Browns
Detroit at Chicago: Da Bears Could be close.
Indianapolis at Carolina: Indy Panthers are not gonna get it done with Vinny. Let me break from the picks for one second to gripe on this growing trend of teams bringing back fossils from the grave. Especially since there's plenty of young talent that need their feet wet, I know its a business of win now now now but somethings gotta give. Rebuilding processes don't happen over night(that goes double for QB's). Back to the picks.
NY Giants at Miami: Gmen
Oakland at Tennessee: Titans
Philadelphia at Minnesota: Philly Don't know why I'm still picking them.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati: Steelers
Buffalo at NY Jets: Buffalo
Houston at San Diego: Chargers Wow, they are actually planning to play at Qualcomm.
Jacksonville at Tampa Bay: Bucs
New Orleans at San Francisco: Saints
Washington at New England: Pats I'd be tempted to gamble on the Skins if they had a decent Offense.
Green Bay at Denver: the Pack

^I think the Jags have a decent shot. Bucs are good, but so are the Jags. That should be one of the better games this week. As for Carolina, I think its the right move. Now, if its a team like the Browns or Dolphins, who have high round pick young QBs, I can see it. But the Panthers have an established QB in Delhomme, and a good backup in Carr, but Delhomme's out, there are still concerns with Carr's health, and Vinny played well last week, so it makes sense.

David Garrard is injured and Quin Gray is horrible. If he keeps playing like he did against the Colts, he'll be benched in favor of Bouman who they just signed. Jags might lose their next three or four games. I think Garrard is out at least for four. They need him back.

Now, if its a team like the Browns or Dolphins, who have high round pick young QBs, I can see it.Think the Raiders should do the same with Jamarcus(though I was never entirely sold on him), Daunte's my boy in all but him and Mcowen are not the long term. They need to see what the kid can do. I don't know I guess I'm just bitter about Vinny and what he didn't do for us those years ^_^

The Patriots are simply being cruel at this point. If they keep running up the score, an injury will happen, and I will have no sympathy.

Next week is the showdown. Seriously, just call it the Superbowl preview, because those are the best two teams in the league, and they'll probably meet in the AFC finals, though the AFC is stacked enough that another team (I'm thnking Chargers or Steelers) could pull off an upset.

The Bills won. They've won three of four, with the loss being that Monday night game against Dallas. The next two games ar cinci and miami, so three weeks from now we could foreseably walk out of our guaranteed home loss .500 (three weeks from now the Bills play the pats, its the guaranteed home loss on the schedule. the guaranteed away loss is, of course, the game in foxborough)

This s***s, I wont even get to watch the game, stupid NFL network.

And as for the Packers not getting any love from most "experts" s the stupidest thing i've ever seen.

Exp.-packers go to Denver on monday night, "experts" 50-50 on outcome, then next sunday in KC- opx. 75-25 packers lose, reason, back to back road AFC west teams and 2 of the toughest places to play and short week, still won, and nothing on the Viqueen game because almost if not all "experts" pick pack, but say A.P. gets a ton of yards, 11 carries for 45 yds.

I say its about time to say Packers are tied for first in NFC(i say now because "experts" were saying Giants were 1or2 ahead of Packers and Cowboys, even though both teams beat them fairly easily) and wait for DCB-GBP game in a couple of weeks.

The Bills had two hopes: divine intervention and Gillooly (http://www.ryanparkersongs.com/search/label/tom%20brady)

neither one has happened, though a late, low hit on Brady from a Bill would be karma. Still, Kimo Von Oelhoffen plays for Philly, Lewis is about ready to kill someone in Baltimore, the Steelers haven't lost their physical nature, the Giants D-line has a shot, who knows how desperate and mad the Phins will be, and who knows how the Jets will respond to an attempt at payback.

Rodgers was excellent. He looked better in two quarters than Alex Smith has in two seasons.

It wasn't until Rodgers went in that the Packers started going back to what made them successful in the first place (4-5 wide, slants).

Gibbs had a horrible game yesterday. The skins decided to put 10 men on the field for the first defensive play of the game, a move that neither head coach initially knew about. Gibbs followed up by calling consecutive timeouts to ice Lindell, moving it from a 51 yard game winning field goal (he kicked the first time anyway, and made it) to a 36 yard game winning field goal.

Chargers are putting up a good fight without LT.

Defense is really good, its almost surreal because I'm used to watching the Patriots score at will like in a video game.

The announcing is a joke though. On both of the picks thrown by Brady, the only reason I knew they were interceptions was because I witnessed them happen. Simms and the other guy almost didn't even acknowledge them, no enthusiasm.

I know the NFL is behind the Pats, but c'mon.

Giants vs. Patriots in the Super Bowl. Somehow I get the feeling that the Giants will get the same beating that the Ravens gave them a few years back.

You know at least if the pack made it I could root for Favre to go out like a champ, but now theres absolutley nothing I like about this Super Bowl. It might in fact be the first one I don't watch. Seeing this punk Eli get to the big game quicker than his bro, this is a bad dream, this season for that matter. I'll give the Giants one thing their D is alot tougher than their given credit for, they'll do some damage to Brady.

You know what, screw this season. It was a great building year for the Boys and I'll look forward to the next.

kenshinbebop, you just reminded me that I have to take down the Giants sign I have on my window... something I've been meaning to get rid of since the week after the superbowl.
