The first filler episode of Naruto aired on August 25 in the US. How many episodes were made and are they all terrible?

The fillers aren't as bad as people say they were. It's just that they were delaying the story and that made people overly critical of them when they were actually mostly decent with some real gems tossed in there as well.
Also, the dubbed fillers that just aired, they are pretty good filler. I wouldn't complain about those.

You can also check out the list of Naruto episodes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Naruto_episodes) on Wikipedia. If the episode you're referring to is episode 101, then you have 118 more episodes to go before the fillers end; episode 220 marks the end of the fillers, and episode 221 is when the Shippuden arc officially begins. Since I didn't watch the fillers, I can't tell you how they are. (I believe episode 220 sets up the transition into the Shippuden arc, though.)

The US airing of Naruto is only up to episode 105 as far as I know, which is still in the Idate "runner filler arc". That's a 5 episode filler arc, so there's one more before the story gets back to cannon material with episode 107. That cannon story will last until 135, then comes the horrid filler years.
Mikadzuki, you're forgetting about the "Sasuke retrieval arc" from 107-135. That's not filler. It's 136-220 that's filler. It was only like 84 eps of straight filler, not 118 (thankfully). But yes, the end of ep 220 (after that horrid filler arc) jumps back to a bit of cannon before making the change to Shippuuden cannon.

You're right, I did forget about the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. (I thought that was later in the anime.) I stopped watching the anime around when the Chuunin Exam arc started (I've been following the manga, so I didn't see any reason for me to continue watching the anime if it wasn't airing an arc I liked), so I was going more off the episode summaries on Wikipedia to answer Double Wide's question.
