Sorry for making two threads so close to each other but I just read about this and haden't seen anyone else post about it.
A total eclipse of the Moon occurs during the early morning of Tuesday, August 28, 2007. The event is widely visible from the United States and Canada as well as South America, the Pacific Ocean, western Asia and Australia. During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.
An eclipse of the Moon can only take place at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of Earth's shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped parts, one nested inside the other. The outer shadow or penumbra is a zone where Earth blocks some (but not all) of the Sun's rays. In contrast, the inner shadow or umbra is a region where Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.
If only part of the Moon passes through the umbra, a partial eclipse is seen. However, if the entire Moon passes through the umbral shadow, then a total eclipse of the Moon occurs

EDT is 3 hours ahead of PDT. Atleast that's what I understood when I looked it up. So that means it would be a 6 then.

Kind of a cool sight - I've seen several bright shooting stars (one of which left a trail for a moment) right in the area of the eclipsed moon. I should probably take this as some sort of omen, but I can't think of a good one at the moment.

I've seen plenty of lunar eclipses before and IIRC one total lunar eclipse.
They're not that big. If you get a pic it's pretty cool, but otherwise...yeah, I wouldn't be coherent enough to wake up at 5AM and take a picture.

I hauled myself out of bed intime to see it, but I was far too tired to....figure out how to correctly put the batteries....in my camera..

Actually this eclipse wasn't so good for observation, if you weren't on Pacific, Pacific shore of North America and Australia, Alaska or New Zealand. Here is the map: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/OH/image1/LE2007Aug28-Fig3.GIF
For the most people here Lunar eclipse of 2008 Feb 21 will be better show. The map: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/LEplot/LEplot2001/LE2008Feb21T.GIF
Pray for good weather.

Lunar eclipses really arenīt that stunning.
I have always wanted to see a solar eclipse though...
I've seen a near solar eclipse like once that was during a class trip back at the Bronx Zoo back in elementary school.
But crap, I missed it. Although they were not rare like solar eclipses, a lunar one is fine enough. The last lunar eclipse I saw was a few years back, it was a nice deep red-orange color. And it was pretty big, freaked me out a bit.
Ah, if I can go back to my 8th grade science class and prove my science teacher that a lunar eclipse doesn't mean you don't see the damn moon. He and the class thought that the new moon is a lunar eclipse. *sigh* I knew it wasn't a lunar eclipse but I had a brain fart on how a lunar eclipse looked like.

I've seen both a partial and total eclipse of the sun!
...you have to look at it through special plasticky reflective foil stuff...
...though I saw the partial eclipse through those clouds you sometimes get... where they're really high up and you can see a sillhouette of light? It was half-eaten, and it was bleeding.
Seeing it isn't as much a big deal as *how it feels*. It goes really really eerie and cold and you feel like something huge and bad is about to happen.
I went to a wedding that day. Did it feel like a bad omen? Yes, yes it did!
It was a cousin of mine, she was marrying some American guy. They played Star Wars music in the church. :) The couple are still happy together and have 2 children now.
I've seen lunar eclipses too, but they don't have the drama and feeling that solar eclipses do.
