Wow it looks like the Barry Bonds version of the Eiffel Tower.

The second picture reminded me of Midgar from FFVII on first glance.
I hated playing that place :(

They don't look that much alike. To build a tall building you need to build a wide base.

Looks cool, just pray a quake doesn't take it down.

This is the first time I have ever seen a model and thought ´Wow. This really isn´t going to work.´
Also, comments on the news page are retarded.

Something doesn't feel right about that though. I dunno what or maybe its my fear of heights cause each time i go to the top of the empire state building i nearly crap my pants.
It just isn't right especially in that area which is filled with earth quakes, A quake measuring atleast like a 8 on the richter scale would probly bring that monster down. Millions would die, yet that reminds me of twin towers which is something I really don't wanna remember.

Am I the only person who sees the irony in some of the world's shortest people building the world's tallest building?
This would rank up there with the Jamaican Bobsled Team, the Nepalese Deep Sea Rescue Team and the Belgian Homeland Defense Force.

The terrorists won. I´m not even afraid to say it. It´s come to the point where we cannot even comprehend something being made without thinking of someone blowing it up.

That's been happening long before 9/11 and such. Hell, it's an everyday thing in popular fiction.

Man, the first thing I thought when I saw the visual is "Midgar" xD. Yeah, it'd be awesome if they built some tower that looked like it grew out of Final Fantasy, but I just don't know if it'll be that easy. It's kinda' cool though.

Thats one mammoth building project, makes one hell of a target, but the biggest question I can think of is why? I know lands at a premium and so on but a Hive like that with between 500k to a million people?

Probably just to show off. If they actually finish it they have bragging rights and crap like that. I mean, I don't think the Japanese actually NEED something like that.

Dess..you DO realize that us Nipponjins are really aliens from space and that so called "Tall-Building" is really our way of "contacting our people."
We're only trying to give Godzilla something to lean against when he fights Mothra again.
(And people ask me WHY I don't want to go back to my homeland.. )

The speed of the fall would cause you to lose consciousness after about 30-100 feet.

I saw something about this on discovery, and they were talking about some of the different technologies they would have to invent for it to work. They have to think about earthquakes, wind at the upper levels, things crashing into the side, fires, etc. I think the earthquake thing, they were talking about some kind of pendulum thing that keeps it balanced or something. They plan for 500k-1M, guess that means if it was in the US, it would be occupied by 5M "undocumented" immigrants from south of the border

And isn't this X-Seed thing old news already. i remember reading about this and Sky City back before HS. (which for the ladies under 18, wasn't that long ago I swear)

I KNEW IT! The individual districts of Tokyo have finally confirmed my theory: they're trying to take out Akihabara as the center for HENTAI!
NOW THE TRUE WAR BEGINS!

Skydivers seem to manage it fine (though I suppose you must be brain damaged to want to throw yourself out of a perfectly good airplane:P )

Parachutes slow them down. Sliding more than 4km down without something to stop you would be very not good.

On a slide? No. Once you went flying off of the end (if you were still conscious) possibly.
But if you opened the parachute (to early) it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

Why not just build a space station bigger then earth? oh yeah we don't have enough Earthly materials to produce such a thing. unless we Harbored off the moon but that would take centuries.

it looks like they cut out a picture of Mt Fuji and put this in its place. DAMMIT YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW AROUND IT!!!!
and the friction of the slide would burn your flesh off.

Meh, behemoth apartment buildings ruined the area where I grew up in Moscow, Sokolniki.
I went there recently.. these things were monstrous, horrible, ugly, gargantuan, and exactly adjacent to the road.. concrete monstrosities larger than any apartment building I've seen in New York.. just plain scary.. and they made it a disgusting place to live..
I hope this building doesn't have a similar effect if it's built..
It would be amusing if no one wanted to live near it, not to mention in it.

i bet you that every otaku in japan would start trying to get apartments in that thing so that they could live in Midgar or w/e.

And so it begins...We must create an even taller building...And from it we shall broadcast Tom and Jerry 24/7. Japan cannot stand Western cartoons poisoning their young people's minds.

:lol::lol: well most of the world hates America anyway (automatic "no sh*t sherlock"). the only thing stopping other countries from going ballistic on us is our mili...ta.r.y.....dammit i forgot about terrorists (religion, even worse).
hell we should build Kefka's tower. and arm it with all types of anti-aircraft missles, artillery, along with tons of drone-sentries at the front........cept then the government would go dictator on everyone. F@$#!
