It's been 3 hours since I've moved files onto it. I've closed all antivirus and antispyware programs. I restarted my computer and tried safely removing the external harddrive right away but to no avail.
Can I just shut down my computer then remove the external without fear of corrupted data?

This happens every time I use my external harddrives except they usually safely remove when I restart my computer then do it.

How long should I wait before shutting down the computer and remove the external if this method works?
