I was just thinking that there are so many potentially interesting biographies of celebrities out there that I haven't read (I'm not too big on historical ones in general, since they lack the personal detail possible in biographies of 20th century figures)..

I'm curious which are some of your favorites?

Out of the few I've read and can recall, my favorite was Masters of Doom about the Doom/iD Software guys, John Carmack and John Romero.

I've been trying to decide what to read next.. maybe one of the George Lucas autobiographies? Either Droidmaker or John Baxter's George Lucas. Although the first isn't quite about Lucas/Star Wars whereas the latter has gotten mixed reviews.

I'm a bit stuck.. Masters of Doom was a comprehensive history of personal computers in itself, and I'd like to check out something that takes a comprehensive look at a different field (or perhaps a more recent development)..

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Chris Crutcher's autobiography, "King of the Mild Frontier" is excellent.

I like rock star biographies, old-style excess where everyone died aged 27.

I was so happy to reach the age of 28 and not be dead.

Of course, they don't *have* to die.

'You made a lot of money?'
'Yeah millions'
'Where is it?'
'Up my nose'

I'm currently reading Marilyn Manson's (shock-rock music star) autobiography as well as General Heinz Guderian's (Considered a military genius. Served under Hitler and redesigned Tank Warfare. Very interesting book).

Since those are the only two I have ever read, I'd recommend them on the sole basis that the first is an exercise in human depravity and the second shows the internal workings of an army as well as historical significance.

I saw a girl reading that one day and decided that I'd pick it up myself. It looks good.

Redemption Song: Muhammad Ali. His life makes boxing movies look boring. I read once that if you had asked somebody in the '60s and '70s how he or she felt about Ali, you'd get an accurate fix on that person's political, sociological, and religious view of the world.

Right now, I'm reading a biography on Patton. It might be too badass for your abilities, though.

Queen Noor of Jordan's Autobiography. Loved it. She showcased a very different point of view towards the Middle East that most people haven't ever considered.

Akira Kurosawa's book, "Something like an Autobiography". Fascinating how Kurosawa grew up.

Am reading a book, "Spytime: the undoing of James Jesus Angleton" by William Buckley Jr. It's been on hold for a while since I've been busy with school this semester.

When I was younger I was blown away by Jim Morrison's autobiography, "No One Gets Out of Here Alive'. Guy was nuts.

I read a couple Biographies about Che Guevara when I was in Middle School.
Quite frankly they were the only ones I ever read of my own choice.
I enjoyed them though as they informed me of so many misconceptions about Che both in his defense and against him.
No Im not one of those kids that wears Che shirts and talks about how cool he is.

I've read several biographies of Katharine Hepburn. They are fascinating because I loved her and because she was in the movies business .

Favorite Biography is 'The Lonely Doll' which is about this children's author from the fifties who had this controlling mother. Dale something...(forgot her name) but the name of the book itself was 'The Lonely Doll'. She was a photographer. Fascinating stuff.

I recently ordered CLAPTON by Eric Clapton and the Steve Martin biography. I like reading celebrity biographies; I like reading gossip.

The only biograpghy I've read was of Bruce Lee, which was awhile back and I found the it was very interesting.

Especially the "curse" they mentioned.
