Was off in the normandy area since last friday, visited a few places like abbeville and omaha beach - turns out there was a sand sculpture exhibition in le touquet, I took a few pictures - the sculptures were divided into three groups, the first section dealt with the various egyptian deities, you then walked through a tunnel and came into a dark sheltered section that dealt with the afterlife, sadly the pictures didn't come out very well for that part, after winding your way past the trials of the afterlife you walked through another tunnel back outside into the third section, which had pyramids/temples. There were placards for each section, part of one said that the sand had come from a quarry in belgium (30 miles south of brussels iirc), totalling 2000 tons of sand!

The idea of people making things like sand sculptures, ice sculptures, etc boggles my mind. If I put that much work into something, I'd want it to last at least a few years, not a couple hours or days.
Still, that's some incredible artwork there. I'm especially impressed with the 7th picture of the lady with the water. The stones on the ground look incredibly real.

Gorgeous work. The Egypt theme works especially well, different from the usual nautical ones.
As for the darkness of the photos, PS Elements or even something like Picture it! would do wonders for the contrast.

Wow, those are great.. I wonder how long they each took to build...
My own sandcastle-building skills are so inferior... I'm happy enough making sandcastles that look like upturned buckets... -_-;

Ever try dribble castles? They at least make something more...unique looking, with less effort.

When I was there were a couple of folks repairing parts of it, so it must be pretty delicate.

Right, I'll have to see if I can do something similar with the indoor sculptures too as they came out bad.

'ccording to the leaflet I've got here it says it took a team of 24 sculptors 15 days to create the preparatory forms/compacting the sand and then another 8 months to develop the sculptures as they are now.
