View Full Version : Pink for girls - all girls like pink.

I've just been reading a news article that's floating round at the moment:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6956467.stm
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/21/girlie_pink/
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_2472810.html

(Note the use of a Hello Kitty picture in the BBC article as the archetype pink fluffy girly thing)

And... don't you just hate it when stereotypes get "scientifically" proven?

I've always felt particularly uneasy about items in that classic girly light pink. I think it's my absolute least favourite colour. Fire-extinguisher red is about the lightest shade of red I like. I also like many shades of purple. But really don't like pink.

And it's also stated that everyone likes blue. ^_^

I don't think their colour ideas are right either... red fruit / veg in the wild often denotes poison... and blue water isn't for drinking - it's usually only sea water that's blue...

Blue water is the kind found in toilets. I don't want to drink that. It's also worth pointing out that "liking red" isn't the same as "liking pink". They just fudged these results to prove whatever they wanted. Even if there's any validity to the idea that girls are drawn to red, that doesn't mean they'd automatically prefer pink over other red shades.

Idiocy is amazing. I, for one, hate the color blue. Most times it's fine and I can deal with it, but I just hate the normal blue, especially that of the ocean (having lived on an island and peninsular state for all my life, you'd think I'd love it, but no, I like the lightish blue-green-teal ocean that signifies warm, shallow waters).

That said, I can say I certainly don't mind most shades of pink, because they're derivatives of red. I love red, purple, and black above all other colors (black not technically being a color if we go according to light spectrum is irrelevant here). I lol'd at yellow and greenish hues being rejected in favor of redder hues - what about the poor bananas?

Konata blue...? O.O

Certain color preferences aren't something inate to physiology...as far as i'm concerned.
Maybe majority rule for each gender determines these results...which is a matter for sociology.
That being said....my DS is pink. >.>;

That color blue is usually light enough for me.

Go ahead Bernard..I know what you're thinking..say it..you'll feel so much better.

On topic, I happen to love the color Pink. If you've ever gone into a Victoria Secrets Store, you will find that practically everything in there is in various shades of PINK. So, yes, Pink is my color.

Hello Kitty has been around since Noah let that cat on board his Ark. Damn that old man....

In the split second I read that in, I stopped looking forward to being able to go in there when I'm old enough.:x

I really am not a fan of pink. Red is my favorite color, then blue. Geez, reading this almost makes me ashamed of the fact I was friends with girls that bought an Ipod mini because it came in pink.

If pink truly was that hot, then Szayel Aporro would have more fangirls. It doesn't really matter anyway, since goth and emo made black a gayer color than pink.

Well, I'm a hot pink freak, but I don't agree that all girls prefer pink, as I can name more girlfriends that hate pink than love it. In addition, I don't agree with the study that the University of Newcastle conducted, either.

Red =/= pink; red shade =/= pink shade.

Even though I don't particularly dislike blue, my favorite colors are pink, white, and black. However, I'd be hard-pressed to say that blue possesses a "universal liking," since that's not true coming from personal experience.

Shameless plug: Pink is the new black!

Writing in the journal Current Biology, experts say it may have helped women gather ripe fruit, or pick healthy mates.

That's my reaction. Actually, as soon I read 'women', I pretty much dismissed it.

When I was a child I favoured greens. Now I'm a fan of tans and chocolates. Though pink is not a favourite colour of mine, I do... appreciate certain shades.

Blue however, I love. Always have. And yes, black.

Thank you, thank you.

I was just thinking, why hasn't the red connection been made to blood? The connection is probably one of the strongest. And it could be plausible, I guess that men would have more of an objection to blood than women. Or that women would have less fear of it, maybe?
Just a thought.
But until this subject is studied with babies who have yet to be socially conditioned, I won't believe it. Yes, you could say if it's the same across the world, across countries, then women are attracted to pink. But red, red's different, it's... primordial.

Besides, the pink theory when it comes to evolution works much better with men.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the color pink!! I don't consider myself a pink girly-girl, but I do admit I like it. Red is my favorite color, and pink just happens to be a lighter shade of red (white and red combined)!! I think it's a pretty color, and it works great with certain clothing, especially if I use black with it. :naughty:

Then what's up with your signature?

By the way, your screename really bothers me. My younger sister is always going, "Boom snap clap! B-boom snap clap!" Whenever I see your name it reminds me that I should think about moving out. :P

I think its more of a girls colour yes but it also depends on the fashion trend.
In the 80s men were not afraid to wear pink or teal at all.
I myself own a couple of pink shirts and very light baby blue shirts.
I do agree more girls are going to like it. I cant agree with the idea of women evolving to prefer that colour though. That seems kinda far fetched.
