Norwegian princess's 'angel school' opens

OSLO - A school newly created by Norway's Princess Maertha Louise for students who wish to "get in contact with (their) angels" was due to open on Thursday at an undisclosed location because of the clamour it has caused.

The project has been criticised in the Scandinavian country where some have called for the 35-year-old princess, a devotee of alternative therapies, to renounce her official title or even get medical help.

Maertha Louise, who claims she is clairvoyant, says the Astarte school will offer students the chance to get in contact with their angels, described as "forces that surround us and who are a resource and help in all the aspects of our lives."

The tuition fees amount to 12,000 kroner per semester (approximately 1,500 euros, 2,100 dollars) and the programme, which involves alternative therapies such as hands-on treatment and healing, lasts for three years.

Many Norwegians consider the idea wacky, according to media reports.

Newspaper Bergens Tidende has called for Maertha Louise, the daughter of King Harald, to renounce her title, while Swedish author and columnist Jan Guillou urged her to "seek treatment".

On Saturday, the princess defended her project on Norwegian public service television NRK.

"I'm glad I wasn't born 200 years ago, because I would surely have been burned at the stake long ago," she said.

Fourth in line to the throne, she already renounced most of her official duties and title of "her royal highness" after she married Ari Behn, a commoner, in 2002.

Let's see... we've got Norwegians trying to summon their angels, which are "forces that surround us and who are a resource and help in all the aspects of our lives." The article doesn't mention what these angels are named specifically, but I'm willing to bet they have names like Holy Bell, World of Elegance, Noble Scarlet, etc.

If I find out one of the students or instructors is named Peorth, I'm on the next flight to Oslo, thorns or no.

EDIT: Here's a picture of the faculty for this year:

Angels don't have names. Only two have names I think.

Silly Norwegians, calling their princess crazy. If there's one thing I've learned here in America, it's that the rich and powerful are never crazy. They're 'eccentric'.

Yes I know and Lucifer is usually known as Satan.
But if we're going by wiki then look at this.

In 1273, Pope John XXI, then Bishop of Tusculum, estimated that the total number of angels who sided with Lucifer's revolt numbered 133,306,668, which would suggest that they were fighting against a force of 266,613,336 angels who remained loyal to God
From wiki

So really, hardly any angels had names.

Lucifer was the most powerful angel in heaven, second in power only to God (not an angel). he tried to take over, and we all know what happened. i heard somewhere that he took 1/3 of all of the angels in heaven with him.

and actually an Archangel isnt the most powerful (as in Michael). its more towards the bottom. the highest one is Seraphim (spelling).

your talking to a big time Catholic. and a lot of stuff that i know would seriously piss people off if many others knew. oh, and im not the radical right-winged type.

*Ahem* Lucifer = [a] King of Babylon.
Isaiah C 14

Isaiah 14:4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
Isaiah 14:5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, [and] the sceptre of the rulers.
Isaiah 14:6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, [and] none hindereth.
. . .
Isaiah 14:9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, [even] all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
Isaiah 14:10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
Isaiah 14:11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, [and] the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

I don't actually know which angel became the devil ... I’ve heard Sammael/Samael a lot though.

There are tens of thousands of participants in the Battle Of The Pelennor Fields, but only a few dozen of their names are given in the Lord Of The Rings. Nobody doubts that they had names, however.

Sometimes, the name just isn't important to the story being told.

If I had the extra cash lived near nd spoke Viking I would go to this school. I love wandering into twonky New-Age shops and asking questions the clerks can't answer then walking back out. I also enjoy attending seminars on subjects like Crystal Power for the same reason.

let me clear some of those Isaiah passages up. the reason he is called sun of the morning is because he had such a bright light surrounding him. and HE IS THE DEVIL.

those classes seem pretty much dead on. ill check later. i have no idea where the angel classes are mentioned in the Bible, or the purposes of the particular classes. if someone can find that, it would be a great addition to this thread.

It might just be me but I thought it was something like God decided if they had a name or something?

That's a lot of angels though.

Yep, it'd by up the the Big Guy whether they had a name or not, but that wasn't my point. My point was that maybe the reason the angels' names, addresses and social security numbers don't appear in the Bible (alphabetized and cross referenced by blood type and wingspan) is that their stats aren't relevant to the story being told in any given passage. It's usually sufficient to say "a heavenly host appeared", rather than "a heavenly host, consisting of name1, name2, name3... name n+1 - appeared."

Ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail? If the angels names were all given, the Bible would read like the Book of Armaments. We'd all have to "skip a bit" just to finish the sermon before Sunday dinner.

In many world mythologies, everything has a name, whether that name is known or not. If a creature (or object)'s True Name is known, one can potentially wield power over that creature.
