I am curious to find out what books you thought had bad endings. Personally, I hated the ending of Princess Diaries Vol.8,(even though the series has gone downhill). Please fell free to list as many as you want

I think the worst ending was the ending of Atlas Shrugged. I felt Ayn Rand should have more elaborate about it.

Seconded. They created a million questions and answered none.
Also, The Great Gatsby.

Yeah, the ending sucked.
The beginning and middle were bad too.

"The End" should have been titled "The Fatidic Finale".
And someone told me there may be a sequel to it. But I have not seen official word about this.

The Ending of Gu Long's The Sword and The Exquisiteness really could have been alot better, the last 5 or so Chapters were really rushed. Its a shame because the story was quite intriguing. Word is the Triads who owned the publishing company that financed him were sticklers for deadlines, and that he really had to hurry up or he would have been in serious trouble. His alcohol and drug habits didn't help him either.
The book is great up to those last few chapters, so I don't feel like I wasted my time, Its just very disappointing that such a great story missed out on a possible great ending because he couldn't get his act together.

Now that I think about it, Civil War: Frontline´s Speedball story is the only thing I have ever read that would have ended better if the main character had killed himself.

QFT.
Gatsby was the only decent character in that book, and even then he had the personality of a rock. (SPOILERS) 'I felt absolutely nothing for him after he died.'

The Dreamers series (David and Leigh Eddings)
"So guys we've reached THE END"
"Looks that way ... what's that over there? A reset [with the big bad dead] button?"
"Let's push it!"
So four books of character development go away, there is still a corrupt organization in charge of a continent, many of the characters have been placed back on their road to self-destruction that they were on at the beginning. And for what? Millions of lives saved? ...well apart from that?

^ haha... My sister's a huge David Eddings fan and she constantly raves about the collaborations with his wife.
You know, I've thought about it a few times. I can't really think of many books I'd say had a crappy ending. Most of the time I didn't like the ending of a book, I also hated the beginning and middle. For example: Great Expectations. I remember thinking, "That's it?!" at the end. Then again, I can't really say I hated the ending any more than I hated the rest of the book, so I guess it doesn't qualify. With the exception of an excellent biographic portrayal by Gonzo The Great, I've really never been a ****ens fan.
As I recall, C.S.Lewis got a little fruity toward the end of That Hideous Strength, with the whole "dance of the heavens" imagery. I liked the ending of the book (and the series), but I'l confess to skimming that bit. It was a bit too self-indulgent, I thought, and it didn't really add anything to the trilogy that hadn't already been said.

Meh... I had a very dull feelings when I finished Atlas (which I unfortunately read RIGHT after reading The Philosophy of Ayn Rand). Elaboration was not the only problem, but a feeling of cohesion is important when you finish a book like that... and that book... it didn't give me coherence (at least, at its closing).

Harry Potter's epilogue was a disappointment.
I kinda liked the epilogue but it didn't feel long enough. I guess she wanted to keep it open so if she wanted to write another book she could. I read that she may do an encyclopedia about the characters and go into detail about all them, even the minor characters and give us a little info that she couldn't put in the books that she wanted to because the books were long enough. BUT, it may be awhile because she wants a rest.

Are you kidding? Beside the whole Harry/Ginny thing, which creeps me out, it was too short, gave almost no details, left too many loose ends, and generally sucked.
Then again, I'm still pissed that she killed off four of my top five favorite characters, so I might be a bit biased.
But there are worse ones endings out there.

True...The HG thing did creep me out with all the wierd Oepidal undertones...and the epilogue was cheesy and the book itself gave people way too much extra information and left a lot of holes in the actual storyline.
And yes Rowling killed my favorite character...<_< so that probably had something to do with it too...
To add insult to injury she kept the two characters I hated the most alive... Life just isn't fair.

Don't they have 10? It was a cliched ending but I personally liked it.
I hated the ending of the Beaulaire children - Series of Unfortunate Events. Book 13-14 "The End" (Whatever it was - I put it through my fireplace).
Anyone can call me stupid for saying it...but I did not get the ending. After book 10 it got really rubbish.

How much Black mana to resurrect a 2-year-old thread?
Stephen King's Dark Tower.
Roland walks through a door at the top of the tower, only to have time wind backward and end up following the Man in Black again, the same way the first book opened. I'll ignore the whole thing about pulling a different Eddie and Jake from another world to be with Susan again.
Robert Jordan won't have a chance to end the Wheel of Time poorly (Author Existence Failure), so I'm crossing my fingers that Brandon Sanderson doesn't make it any worse.

I forgot to mention Ayn Rand's Anthem.
Really? I loved this book and I thought the ending was very much in tune with the book.
The one epilogue I really hated was Stephen King's Rose Madder. I'm not a big Stephen King reader, but the book was fine, great, really intriguing up till that epilogue. I mean, it negated the entire climax and falling action. It was so stupid! I regretted reading it almost immediately. I wished I had just stopped the falling action.

Disgrace by by Coetzee, J. M. Probably one of the worst books I have ever read. The ending was just ***. I never read a book before that the ending made the main character even more unlikeable.

There's not much creepy about it really, she was always the Harry fanboy, and she grew up to be a lot like him.
The real problem is with Cho Chang. After Cedric died she had sex with Harry. I don't blame Harry because well, if Cedric was that great of a firend he'd have shared her earlier.

She was a year younger and looked up to him. Mabe saving her had something to do with that. People are acting like he was really her father or something.
I don't remember Harry and Cedric being all that chummy really.
and what? Cho Chang had sex with Harry? When did that happen?

Actually it did.
Near the end of a chapter Harry observes chogetting closer, and closer, and closer and then it CUTS AWAY and Hermoine asks Harry HOW IT WAS and he said it was WET. The cut awya proves it
Incase you're curious, the books were in fact based off my life, I do not get any royalties.
Here's how it worked:
Book 1 started at Friday morning, and I got to chill with Hagrid before dinner time, I ate dinner in the great hall and got sorted it was dope.
Book 2 began that evening, we went flyign on that car and then next thing you know I'm in the chamber of secrets fighitng some power gamer snake that kills you when you look at it. I managed to beat it though.
Book 3 began right after that, early Saturday morning, and really didn't take much time to play out my godfather escaped and I went to breakfast.
Book 4 took most of that day though, Cedric got killed about 9 pm.
Book 5 began like right away everyone was all NU UH Cedric just fell or something he awsn't kilt but then next thing you know I'm in the room of Requirement with an asian girl and everyone is like PRONNNS we gotta go to the DEPARTMENT OF MYSTERIESSS
Book 6 began sunday morning and lasted til llike 8 am.
Book 7 lasted throughout monday it took a long time to find them horcruxes, I kept thinking Lord Voldermort would hide them in kegs of Dr pepper so I went across the world drinking DP. After all that's where I'd have hi them.
They didn't make a book out of what I did after book 7 though. I took a really really long piss.

I heard about that but I don't get it.... I kept an eye out for the signs in the last 2 books and I didn't see anything to suggest Dumbledore and Grindelwald were an item. Help me out?
Speaking of Harry Potter, I hate the ending of the first book! Why in the world did the Gryffindors win the cup? What type of lesson is that? Doing the right thing seldom leads to reward and recognition.
I hate the ending to The Farthest Shore because Ged loses his power - forever.
I loathe the ending to The Kadin. It was a beautiful book until she returns to Scotland.
