That song is terrible. Do you know what epic really means? Its about massive scale and breathtaking grandeur. The most epic song ever could only come from power metal. Check out Dragonforce or Helloween. I would say the most epic song would be Dragonforce's 'soldiers of the wasteland', 'starfire' or 'where dragons rule'.

Someone once said:
"If you've heard one Dragonforce song, you've heard em all"

I'd have to kinda agree, although they pwn majorly.

It's true that Dragonforce songs tend to run together and they are pretty much all about the same thing. Every song is about carrying/flying/sailing on. The power is undeniable though and I don't care what people say about Herman Li's guitar style or lack of consistency at live performances.

I'm tired of hearing people think the worst songs are the best songs. Lame is lame!

"2112" by Rush - awesome
"Ace of Spades" - pure classic
"Am I Evil?" by Metallica - f*cking sweet
Jimmy Page doing a guitar solo - insane

"Orion" by Metallica - insane, considering Cliff Burton wrote a ton of the song, and two of the guitar solos were done by him....AND HE PLAYED BASS!:smokin: actually pretty much any solo played by Burton is jawdropping. Cliff Burton was metal incarnate.

in 11 days it will be 21 years since he died. September 27th, 1986. that was so wrong how he died. im hooking up my TV and DVD player to my stereo that day, putting in Cliff em' All and make the houses all around me think that Ozzfest is playing from my house. :w00t::smokin: but im buying earmuffs for my family. he better be in heaven, cause i wanna see him play in person.

You don't think a lot of Queen's stuff could be considered epic? Like Bohemian Rhapsody, The Show Must Go On, and Princes of the Universe?

Queen is one of the main influences of the power metal genre. Since power metal is epic and Queen is a main influence on power metal, by using the transitive property, we can conclude that Queen is indeed epic.

Dream Theater or Rhapsody of Fire are two epic bands. Dream Theater is just amazing in general but I could see Rhapsody of Fire music in some dragon fantasy movie.

Black Sabbath is instantly epic. a lot of the future metal sound came from their low tone in the guitar......which is all a result of Tony Iommi accidently losing his two fingertips and having to downtune the guitar so his fingers wouldnt hurt like hell.

its amazing, slight dismemberment can cause a music revolution.

Though Black Sabbath is my most favorite band and in my opinion the best ever, I wouldn't call them epic. Epic is something different than their awesome doom and downer style. To me, Black Sabbath is more intimate than Dragonforce or Queen. Sabbath makes everything seem alright even when it isn't.

Simply put you all post songs that you feel are epic. You have to put things that are on a more grand scale that changed the music industry. I mean me personally think that Give It Away is a epic song for fusing rock/rap to the mainstream, even though the style wasn't invented by them, I still believe in it. You all jsut post songs that are very heavy and put shivers down your spine, which of course is good, but not epic on a level that everyone knows and can instantly sense that it was a epic song. So if you go by the realistic approach and not by personal standards I would have to say that something by Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, or any other ground breaking band would qualify as "epic".

I think you misunderstand the definition of an epic song. The definition of epic is heroic; majestic; impressively great. Therefore, songs describing massive battles and tales of heroes using monstrous arrangements of keyboards and orchestral elements would be classified as epic. Thus, DragonForce/Power Metal is epic (usually). The Beatles/Classic Rock is not (usually).

And for what I mean by comparable to Lord of the Rings, here's an example.

or

Watch how well it fits. If it gives you that feeling like you need to clench your fists and spread your arms to your sides and blurt out the chorus at the top of your lungs, it's most likely epic.

You've got it right exactly. Modern power metal is in essence epic and only gets more epic as new bands push the genre forward. The likes of Homer and Virgil would be reduced to tears of joy. (not Homer Simpson, in case you are not familiar with ancient literature)

Also, I've never heard of the Ensiferum. They're awesome. Thanks for filling me in.

Heard of Wintersun? They are the best band in that genre (Folk Metal). The lead singer of Wintersun initially sung for Ensiferum before left for his side project, Wintersun, on conflicting tour dates. Wintersun is pretty much the essence of good metal. They pretty much combine everything (death metal, black metal, power metal, folk metal, symphonic metal, you name it, it's in there) into a saintly concoction. Jari Maenpaa, the singer, guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist (guitarist/singer live, they get fill-ins) is a musical genius. If I didn't like Falconer so much, Wintersun would be my favorite band just for the sheer amazingness factor. And yes, I understood you're Homer and Virgil reference.

You speak of songs that have epic stories or an epic feel, but I responded and will rebuttle to you for the fact that they brought up songs by bands they liked then I mostly decided to post becuase of Black Sabbath, and as I qoute he said they are epic. I am well aware of what you mean, but you state I am misunderstood, when I wrote even in my post, I am looking at it realisticly as they seemed to drift towards. As such I wrote why of course you are entitled to think they are epic, I took a realistic approach towards what they define in the music industry as epic and groundbreaking. Not the way a song is sung or the way the story inlaid is played out. I do appreciate your counter point, but I'm sorry it really didn't hit the button on what I was saying. I am quite aware of what you mean, but I only go by the way the wind blows or how the break in the wave forms. :j

Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. that song DID push the envelope on what is acceptable in music. the title and lyrics of the song caused a hell of a lot of controversy when it came out (oh crap a pun). and if you know the song and the lyrics, you can understand why.

Sorry now that I read it I dont even understand.

I will try simple even for me.

1- I don't consider songs epic
2- I only consider music changing songs epic
3- If you go by the way a song sounds or feels, then I would ahve to go with something by DragonForce
4- I tried to go to a more grounded thinking, what songs by industry standards are epic, not the sound of a song.
