Kronenbourg is a reasonable lager to drink at the average pub. Abbot Ale is a much more pleasant drink though, and you only find it at a better class of establishment.

Damn, I knew I was missing something when I pressed reply. I kinda meant easy access commercial brands, but we'll just roll with this since it doesn't limit the convo. Starting over. Which beer do you feel suck the least? I agree that 99% of beer is bad in general and that's why I barely even touch it. I've had Negra Modelo before and didn't think it was anything special. AleSmith Speedway Stout is better than Samual Adams Chocolate Bock too. :P So to each their own I suppose. I do like the three I listed earlier though. For mass produced beer that's all over the place it's doable.

I find Stella Artois so unpleasant that if it were the only beer on the market, I'd quit drinking. It tastes of solvents and other noxious chemicals to me. I really feel like I don't want to finish the glass if someone offers me a Stella Artois. I know it hits the right buttons for a huge number of drinkers, but I would never be one of them.

Guinness is really great stuff. When I went to Ireland a few years ago I had it right from the tap and that just blew most things away. My dad is from Ireland and was a bartender when he first came to America years ago. Go figure.

There is no doubt about it. There is art to the pour of a pint of Guinness in Ireland from what I observed. They lean the glass at an angle and fill it up from the tap about 3/4 the way. Let it sit there until it settles then filled to the top and ready to go.

I've been to the Dublin brewery and been on the tour distance and freshness does not cover up the taste. Now there are several English breweries that approach the Dutch in beercraft. J.W. Lees & Co and Whitebread both make excellent brews.
I would give anything for a Fosters
9/10 lions with green shoes prefer the taste of Fosters over PBR.
You are correct about bad beer, you front load the good stuff (it is usually higher in alcohol) and finish with the cheap PBR, MB, or the worst Lone Star/Pearl light. You have not truely busted your beer cherry until you have tried the horror that is anything coming from the Lone Star brewing company.

Nope. I ended up at Pógue Fadó for a friend's birthday, and since I wasn't DD, I decided to indulge in an adult beverage with my supper. Since it's the Irish in Irish what do I order, but a pint of Guinness. Two sips and I was done. Not I emptied the glass in two sips, but that I took two sips and couldn't take another drink.
Though I won't say never, I will say that enough time hasn't passed for me to want to try again, and is more than likely more than a few years off.
Drink of choice is Kokanee (though don't tell anyone because it's west coast, tree-hugging hippy crap).
But I do drink Keith's (a real East coast beer, a man's beer, a beer you don't have to be ashamed of) depending on where I am and what I'm doing.

I thought the exact same thing. Guinness is about as close as I can come to drinking beer straight, but even then, I won't enjoy it. As someone else mentioned, Heineken's makes a good cooking beer.

Just like any wine (or sake, etc.), some meads are sweeter than others, and some have a drier taste than others. I've drunk some cloyingly sweet meads, wines and sakes (which I don't generally like), and I've had some meads that are refreshingly crisp, tart, etc. I had a macadamia nut mead in Hawaii that was just amazing and made an excellent dessert wine. It all depends on the mead.
A lot of the meaderies in Colorado specialize in melomels, which are fruited meads. They taste rather like wine coolers. I forget the name of the place that bottles it, but they've got a strawberry rhubarb mead that's just about the most delicious thing I've ever drunk. It's not thick or sweet at all. Redstone Meadery in Boulder also makes a blackberry mead that's quite good on a hot day.
Really, it just depends on what they want to make. I've had a few meads that were thicker and sweeter than a port wine, so I'd say there's a spectrum of meads to try. I'd suggest going to a winery/meadery to taste their samples. Let 'em know you don't like the sweet stuff, and they'll be happy to show you the other end of the spectrum.
