I've seen allot of small places allowing casino's to be built in there town to help them "economically" so i was wondering what allot of peaple think of this and if they live in one of these places if they would want a casino, personally i despise these places (not to mention the win/loss ratio is way to one-sided in favor of the casino, I personally think allot of it is rigged).... in a bar they make sure you have a driver (the good ones anyways) and will cut you off if they think you've had enough but in a casino they will let you loss your shirt. I've seen way to many families suffer becouse of these places when a family member gets addicted and think building one will just cause damage... but thats just my oppinion.

Life in my opinion is a gamble, why not take it full swing?

There is a Hard Rock casino where I live.

I have yet to visit it. Keep in mind I am a very curious and adventurous person. But for some reason I have always been extremely adverse to gambling.

I don't much care for gambling either, considering most of the time people usually leave with less money than they had when they first walked in. Plus people get addicted, which isn't good because you can end up loosing a bunch of money.

People lose money in casinos for three reasons. One, they have no idea how to calculate expected value (and thus know that games like roulette are almost statistically impossible to win decently at), two, they bet horribly, and three, they don't stop betting.

Three card poker, craps, and the slots are probably the best places to actually earn money, in that order. If you have good odds on something like a straight (ie, 30 to one odds), and you bet a decent amount, you can come out with several hundred dollars.

The important note is that as soon as you've hit a large jackpot in any particular game, you either quit, or keep going for three more rounds and that's it. The three more rounds will let you earn a little bit more cash, but not too much, usually enough to satisfy those who are itching for even more money.

Theres a Seminole Hard Rock casino near where I live. I signify Seminole because the slot machine return rate is 70% instead of the legal 90 something%. Since it's on a reserve they get away with this.

Casino's do enhance the economy... they are a place for restaurants and bars to make business and thrive. They attract a lot of tourists... also a lot of traffic :/ and create new jobs (creating new jobs isn't always a good thing though). I like my hard rock, it has a bunch on night clubs that let you in if you're at least 18, and they have some really nice restaurants. At the same time I hate it. They overcharge for concerts and fights (but at least we have fights, the UFC comes by every now and then.) They definitely rob you. If you go in looking for a good time, carry lots of cash. $7 for a bottle of Fiji water. If you are allergic to smoke... run the other direction. It is in fact a breeding ground for degenerates.

Something important to know about gambling is that it never helps raise money for education. The taxes are collected in the name of education, but the budget has a cap on it, the taxes collected from gambling help exceed the cap and the funds are then re-allocated. So unless there is a budget increase for education, gambling doesn't help anyone besides politicians who need money to support programs that no one supports.

Where I live, there are two big newspapers. Both of these newspapers have the most redundant articles ever. " School need more money", "teachers need a raise", "teachers underpaid". It was so overdone, and at the same exact time, I heard a little snippet reminding me that last year gambling was legalized after a vote taken on the ballot. One of the biggest reasons it was voted in was for education... I was like wtf?!?!? and this is what I found.

Same here. In Oklahoma, the Indian nations can all set up as many casinos as they like, so our state has somewhere around 73 of them(& many of them are BIG, not as flashy but as big as many Vegas ones),. & you can bet they make a KILLING everywhere they set up. But contrary to what some think, the machines are NOT rigged to cheat players, I used to work for a gaming machine company(supplies them to the casinos & services them also), & got a first hand look at how they work. Pretty much all of them now are PC-based, & use what's called a randomizer card to determine when a wheel or screen image will stop(& therefore what number or symbol will appear). Also got to watch them operate(because after we'd build or repair one, we'd program in a lot of money & set it to run continuously over several hours), & I noticed that while they can have winning & losing trends, they don't do it with any kind of recognizable pattern(but they always run out of money eventually, as I'd expect them to, after all, as the saying goes, "Vegas wasn't built on winners, it was built on losers").....

It's "casinos" not "casino's." An apostrophe makes it possesive, not plural.

Anyway, Indian casinos aren't often all that beneficial for the Indians, because it's still just a few people getting rich off the proceeds, but I don't have much sympathy for the white gambling addicts. Call it karma, I guess.

I think gambling is a tax on people who are bad at math.

I've been to casinos. I usually put one dollar in a nickel poker game, which can easily be played long enough for me to be served a complimentary glass of wine by an attractively attired young lady. I'll usually cash out at that point.

By the math, this means for a maximum of $1 and the price of a tip, I get a glass of wine served to me by an attractive young woman in fetching attire.

For me, that's a win, even if I lose the whole dollar. Since I'm usually breaking even when I cash out, it's an even better deal.

That about sums up the use I have for casinos, but since my grandmother never taught me to count cards as well as she could (she was a sharp), gambling's never been my vice. I'll stick to drinking wine and admiring pretty women, thanks.

quick question. for you americans, is a casino over there a place just for gambling, or a place for entertainment?

Cause i step foot inside Crown Casino (http://www.crowncasino.com.au/) every weekend, and don't spend a cent at any table or poker machine. food, yes. Initial D Arcade stage, yes. DDR, yes. Clubbing, yes. but not gambling....

In my family's case, it's the former. In mine, it's the latter since I'm still not legal. ;) There's also one other reason: a casino is a place for me to raid the all-you-can-eat buffets. XD

Slightly O/T: good to see another familiar face again. ;)

Casinos here have all sorts of things, and usually good music performances, usually classic rock like STYX and suck. The general purpose is for adults to go, have a few drinks, risk some money, and see some entertainment

This town has at least a couple of casinos, but I've never ventured into one. I play poker on a regular basis, but I would never want to play in a casino. That would suck all the fun right out of it for me. There's absolutely no way I'd ever want to cross the threshold.

I've not gone into any local casinos, myself. The ones around here probably aren't the type I'd want to go to anyway.

I'd play some no limit poker at cash tables if I had the money but as for gambling in its literal sense, I never touch that stuff.

I average a third or fourth place finish in the regular games I play. That doesn't encourage me to try playing poker for high stakes, even though I do sometimes win.

that's the thing. i am legal but i just don't. here, they're pitching certain casinos (Crown, whatever the one in sydney is, Jupiters) as not just for gambling.. given that there's pokie venues all over australia....

slightly O/T: Hey man, long time no see. =3
