I have a tendency to forget the titles of really FAMOUS books, poems, plays. Please help me remember.

I can't believe I can't remember the name of this, nor the authors name :/

So it starts of with an angel falling down an endless chasm as sentenced by God. The angel eventually grabs on to a stone and when he peers up he hears a voice saying fall or something bad will happen. As the angel looks up though, to his delight he sees some stars. Angel doesn't want to loose sight of stars. Angel eventually grows wings and horns and becomes a devil and flies after the last bit of a star which eventually goes out anyways. It's suppose to be a story about the origin of Lucifer. Anyways, at the end of this segment (One of three I think) one of the fallen angels relatives talks with God and tries to rescue said fallen angel. I never read the next part though :/

I'm going to take a wild stab and say it might be one of Dante's books?

No, not Dante. I'm sure I'll eventually find the book :/ i read it from. It had to do with European literature. I really want to read the whole story.

Another guess: Milton's "Paradise Lost", maybe?.....

I'd wager not on Milton. Having not read Mr. Alighieri, no idea there, however.

v.v thanks for the replies everyone. The author is actually Victor Hugo, the title: Et nox facta est (There was Night). It's a French piece, if you speak French I recommend reading it, I do not speak French but even the translated version is very romantic. Usually I don't like the romantics because everything is so drawn out, but the shining stars that the angel kept in his eye that slowly became burning embers and eventually ash is really something inspiring to me.

It was really beautiful, but be warned, it's a romantic piece so the story can be covered in like 2 pages... but it runs for like 20.
