Is there a PC equivalent of GarageBand? I'm interested in making some tunes with a good software that I can just make music with. Isn't GarageBand like that for Mac? I never used it, but I think that's what GarageBand is...

Anyway, what's the PC equivalent for it?

The PC equivalent would be ACID Music Studio by Sony MediaStudio. GarageBand is nothing more than a stripped down version of Logic Audio, which is now exclusively owned by Apple, as there is no longer a version of Logic for the PC. Keep in mind these programs come with a very basic set of samples. Disregard the programs above as two of those programs are not related, the other is unintuitive and cheap for a reason, and the last one is best left for more advanced users and is out of the normal budget for beginners.

A good resource: Shareware Music Machine (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm)

Glad I got Mac now. I got me Logic and Reason. ^_^

If you're going down the road of PC, you may want to check out Sonar in the future. The guy who composesses the the music for the TV show Supernatural uses Sonar. You can make cool music... What type are you aiming at here?

As lame as it sounds (actually, it might kick ***), I'm trying to think of a loop for Rei I from Evangelion as a beat for a rap song. With some sweet beats in the background.

Who knows? I might even write a song for it.

I would never recommend Sonar for a beginner since it's meant for professional use. A good basic version of it would be Cakewalk Kinetic. Since hes looking to make hip-hop beats, he's better off since it has the Roland TR series sample library which are a staple in production.

I wanted to add that there's a lot of free software that can do the job he's looking to do with the link I provided. It's really not necessary to spend more than $100 for a good sequencer/host. I would still suggest ACID Music Studio since it's the same price as anything by Magix, and you can upgrade to Acid PRO at a much cheaper rate if you feel inclined.

Fruity Loops is a great program for EDM.

Well, what I'm trying to do is just get the Rei I's theme played on the piano and put some beats in it to make it sound like a rap.

Or a program where I can just write my own music since I know how to play it on the piano.

Remixing the songs together or just entirely making a new one, I can do either. So Cakewalk Kinetic?

I'm also getting Magix Music Maker right now, so that one can get the job done too? Well, thanks for the help.

The Music Maker series is very limited and isn't very good at proper file output. Kinetic would work best for your intentions.

Music Maker may be limited, but if your not inclined to use Fruity Loops or other programs, or you'd rather not spend as much, it's a very interesting program.

I picked it up at a Staple's in the 5 buck bargain bin, not even knowing what it was. The coolest thing is I can upload the songs from the program and put it on my iPod.

You can make your own beats, it has proper editing tools, everything from EQ to effects...then you can also upload a video to put your music to.

So yeah, check it out...if not for use, at least for experimentation.

Hmm... I tried using Kinetics and I feel very very stupid now. It seems a little too complicated. I'll try out other programs you mentioned now.
