Any fans of The Velvet Underground here? Loaded is on in the background, so I'd thought I'd make a thread on 'em.

Do you still nab the albums where lou reed makes minimal appearances? Been interested to know if other fans think he alone carried the band (along with nico in some cases).

Does anyone know their exact involvement with the plastic inevitable and andy's Factory? Did they just hang around or did they shape the course of any of andy's productions?

... Peel and see!

I love the Velvet Underground! My favorite is probably their self-titled album, as far as overall enjoyment goes. Experimentally speaking, I love Nico and White Light/White Heat. Let's not leave Loaded out since it also contains great songs such as "Who Loves the Sun", "Sweet Jane" and "I Found A Reason". I wasn't initially into Loaded, but thanks to the cover of "I Found A Reason" by Cat Power, I began to appreciate the album more.

I have to admit, I have never checked out Velvets latter albums without Lou Reed. Obviously, Lou Reed is a vital member to the band, but I don't think he alone carried the band. I personally think John Cale was as important to the Velvets, along with Andy Warhol-- who I think kick started their career. I wish I could tell you more about their relationship with Andy Warhol, but unfortunately, I lack the information. ^^;
