Since we finally got the forum I decided to go ahead and kick it off with a thread dedicated to "the face that launched a thousand gifs". I have found people put her in their sig or post her dancing even without knowing who or what she is. Not bad considering Lum related spam is much better than the normal Desu crap other sereis create. For starters the classic dancing Lum

Lum is definitely my number one favorite female anime character. I wish more people would give UY a chance, it deserves alot more recognition than many more contemporary shows these days.

Since this is a thread appreciating the oni whose face launched a thousand starships, I think it's appropriate to list one of the many references to her. This one comes from AN's own Risky Safety:

Apparently Lum is Risky's left-hand Oni. Now THAT's what I call otaku fanservice.

I was going to say that Lum doesn't usually pose without a bikini top, but then I remembered this scene:

I guess that with all the gadgets she has tucked in there, it's a little uncomfortable for her to sleep in it... -_-;

Given that some of my favorite titles are Ah! My Goddess, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura, yeah, you probably should've expected it.

You know what's funny? I've never seen the UY anime. I stuck with the manga on that one. I own the full Ranma 1/2 anime, but I've never managed to find a deal good enough for me to invest in the UY anime.

$100 for 10 volumes is the best deal you're going to find for UY. How much was ranma 1/2 total? Id say around $500-600 right(not including these new re-releases)? It's $500 for UY not including the movies/OVA, so it's not that bad. I still think 50 singles is kind of crazy, I wouldn't blame you for sticking to the manga. I'm really tempted to pick up the first 10 dvd's, but I don't want to buy it until I get a new shelf.

Check around Christmas I got 20 volumes for around 150 dollars.

I could take some screen shots of a live action movie with Lum in it but I would have to ban myself for posting.

Ya, Animeigo had $5 a volume sale. Too bad I didn't get on it. Maybe next time.

Urusei Yatsura doesn't get the appreciation it deserves. Everyone's all like,
"z0mg InuYasha is teh coolest thing evar wats a rumiko takahashi? Whats a Lum?"

It's true, and it's sad.

It is sad. Same can be said for all classic anime.

Very true.

Anyone else like Ten-chan? The kid is hated on, but I love him.

^there are enough people out there that exist to hate on him? XD
Sorry...just keeping about the recent tone of the thread.

Ten-chan...I suppose he fills his Rumiko niche as the perverted little kid who smarter than he lets on. I guess he's the first. Haven't seen nearly enough episodes to find him memorable though.

I will say this, Ten >>>>> Shippou.

My favorite episode is Rei's first appearance simply because Ten is bored and decides to mess with Ataru. The scene with him handing out fliers with Ataru's address telling people to log all complaints and bill all damage to the the address on the page is one of the first laugh out loud moments in UY for me.

^Speaking of that episode, I honestly just cracked up for no reason when Rei just goes "Gun!"
Which all of the anime duels laced with needlessly heavy dialogue now (completely baseless XD), this man stands apart and gets to the point. But then, they didn't duel with guns in the end, did they...

For Rei, that's a surprisingly long sentence.

I've just entered the enormity that is Urusei Yatsura after avoiding it for many years purely out of intimidation by the number of entries there are into the franchise.

I have to admit I'm really enjoying all the movies and OVA's I've bought on dvd. I have yet to commit to the tv series but will probaly do so soon.

I've noticed there's also alot of different character designs between all the different sequels, it's hard keeping up with it all at times.

Here is a cover of "Lum's Love Song (http://stage6.divx.com/Mari/video/1281114/Uta-Doki!---Lum-no-Love-Song)" by Mari Yaguchi (Morning Musume Second Generation) from a late night Hello! Project TV show called Uta Doki! This performance was aired on December 5 2006. The Weekly DJ is Michishige Sayumi (Morning Musume Current).

Loose translation for the beginning of the show: it basically says this request came from a viewer named Takumi from Yokohamashi, Japan. "Please let me hear Yaguchi-san's version of 'Lum's Love Song' one more time! Her performance was so unforgettable that it made my day. When it comes to anime song cover, I definitely have to go with Yaguchi! I really like anime so it will be wonderful to hear again. I am counting on you guys!"

I love Urusei Yatsura! Ten is okay, he is definently memorable. I like Ataru and Mendou... and Megane... and Shinobu. Okay I like them all. I've not seen anything even comparable to Urusei Yatsura in all these years, except maybe (just maybe!) Excel Saga. I believe Urusei Yatsura set the standard for many anime convetions we take for granted now. The harem anime for example, and the exotic/alien girl friend animes. And most anime comadies in general. I believe many sight gags started in UY too. I'm trying to remember, but does anyone remember an anime character falling over at something stupid (when someone says something just plain dumb) before UY? It was one of the first I ever watched also, which will always make it special to me.

Long will I remember the insanity of the movie "Lum the Forever."

There's only one thing keeping me from watching this one...

Lack of discount box set.
