Its rather corny. Even I would listen to power metal over this.\

Edit: Reminds me of like crappy Christian music.

Van Canto's approach to metal is very.... different. While most forms of metal tend to place emphasis on the instruments, especially the guitars, this group is made up of a drummer and several chorus members.

It is somewhat revolutionary, and they seem to be darn talented at what they do, but I don't personally find their music to be overly enjoyable. Now if they added some more instruments to their lineup, it'd likely be a completely different story.

Black Out Band hands down sucks, regardless of their age.

Dream Theater sounds flipping great. I'll have to look into some of their albums.

Meh, it's original but not very interesting. My favorite metal guys are still Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, and Metallica. Anyway, here's a rarity I know you'll love:

Seeing as they're my favorite band, I can only agree with that decision.

You should be aware that "The Dark Eternal Night" is not a conventional Dream Theater song by any means, though, so if you expect most of their songs to be like that I guess you're going to get a little disappointed - or maybe pleasantly surprised, as I don't know what you usually listen to.

In that case, check out their current CD(that the clip I linked to comes from), called Systematic Chaos, & others of their worth checking out are Octavarium, Train of Thought(maybe their darkest & most aggresive CD to date), 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence, & Scenes From a Memory(also known as Metropolis Pt.2, the whole thing is a concept album expanded from an older song they did on their 2nd CD, Images & Words, called Metropolis, also a good CD to try). They are DEFINITELY a musicians' band, which is why the mainstream tends to avoid them(stuff is so complex & long that media are afraid no one will understand it, but most musicians can appreciate the complexity & sheer difficulty in it).....

Dream Theater is way too progressive. I just get bored of them really quickly when I listen to them. I prefer Wuthering Heights or Wintersun from the Progressive department. As long as they have touches of power metal in them, I usually like them -_^. As for Van Canto being corny, It IS power metal, so you should expect it to be corny since that is basically the defining feature of good power metal.

DevilDriver has been one of my favorite 'Metal' band in recent memory, along with Black Label Society.

Absolutely. They aren't my favorite band anymore, but they're still damn good at what they do. I'm surprised to find anyone who likes Dream Theater on here (well, maybe not...). I think Awake was their best album, but it's not an easy one to get into.

Okay, I'll not derail this thread anymore.

Power Metal? Sounds like someone thought it would be a good idea for Chicago to have a love child with Winger.

Never heard of power metal? It's the really fast stuff/melodic stuff with unreasonably cheesy lyrics, therefore making it amazing.

See DragonForce, Blind Guardian, Falconer, Edguy...etc.

Enter Shikari? they're not really screamo, but it's almost as if they're something similar, I definitely love them though and think they're unique in a way.

I would call that screamo...post-hardcore. One of those genres I can't stand.

That really is something isn't it? A drummer, a handful of singers and not a single guitar in sight. I would never call that metal. Though I do not doubt their talent, I cannot like it. There's much better metal around. I like 3 Inches of Blood, Dragonforce, Dimmu Borgir and Tristania. You can always listen to the classics as well. That band isn't really heavy metal. It is neither heavy or metal. I don't know what to call it.

Acapella metal. Yes, it is metal because in essence, they use all the qualities of power metal. Of course there are better metal bands, the band uses no instruments for Christ's sake. Just so you know though, suggesting bands you like doesn't necessarily mean they are better bands...

Didn't Black Sabbath(best band ever!) use many aspects from blues. That doesn't make them a blues band. In my opinion acapella metal is just too weak. There's no thudding bass and screaming guitar. Also, those cheesy, American Idol gestures are laughable. I'm sure that most would agree that the bands I've listed are better, though my point was that my taste is far too heavy to enjoy Van Canto.

Don't be so sure...

And since when do good metal bands have thudding bass? The bass in metal is just a down-tuned distortioned guitar...pretty much. I'm not saying that this band is the most spectacular thing ever invented. It's just finally something interesting to hit the metal genre. I'll agree that the bands you listed are good, but none of them really have the same sort of talent as these guys.

Listen to the one in the post above, It's a Metallica cover which is more inline to what they usually sound like.
