View Full Version : I Need Serenity (music)

I've been listening to Godsmack's song Serenity, and I love it. It's like Voodoo, but better.
Those two songs specifically are the sound I'm looking for. I find Serenity extremely soothing -- to the point where I get goosebumps.
My question (and yea verily, the point of this thread) is this: are there any other songs (Godsmack or otherwise) or albums (aside from "Godsmack" and "Faceless") with that same or similar sound?
My preference would be newer stuff. I know a lot of classical music has that vibe (Moonlight sonata anyone?), and I know video game and music soundtracks have that sound, too -- in particular Chrono Cross.
I'm looking for something soothing, but with lyrics (again, like Serenity). Thanks in advance!

Don't Tool and a System of a Down make this kinda music all the time?

I don't know. I don't listen to those guys very often. System of a Down in particular -- it sounds like they're screaming throughout all their songs (all the ones I've heard).
Perhaps I should listen to more tool, though.

Nightwish. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAKf1gTx7qM&mode=related&search=)
Also, try out Pandora (http://www.pandora.com/) if you're searching for similar songs.

Check out Falconer's newest album Northwind. Probably (in my eyes anyways) one of the top 5 albums ever to be released. They are a very melodic power metal band and the lead singer's, Mathias Blad, voice is spectacular.

Godsmacks "Sunny side up." album I would recomend. It was the album that featured the calm version of "Serenity.", but the whole CD was accoustic. Giving it a nice feel.

I can only think of one song that has a similar feel to it, and that's Manowar's 'Mountains'. It's far from a spot-on same vibe, but it's kinda close.

et tu F-stop? I wasn't asking for a critique on Godsmack. I was asking for suggestions on songs that sound like that one other song. Why are you going to go into a "please recommend this" thread and say "I hate this."
It's like going into a "recommend me an anime like DBZ" and instead of suggesting Naruto or Bleach, you get "DBZ sucks". That's not very fair, now is it?

And the album Falconer is good too.

Ok, I finally got a chance to sit down and listen to your suggestions. I love them all!
Nightwish is closest to what I'm looking for. Does that band have a slow-tempo song like Serenity?
Thank you all for your helpful contributions! Please continue with your recommendations!

Oh shoot, the stuff on Nightwish's albums are so varied in tempo and such. I'd suggest picking up Century Child if you can find it; Bless The Child (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcKqayUNts0) is so absurdly chill.
Sadly, their albums are somewhat uncommon in the US. Chances are that all you'll find is Once, which is a great album in and of itself.
Or you could just Oink it.

OK, OK, so my initial reaction was extremely negative and pointless, I admit.
Recommendations? Get Damnation (album) by Opeth. The entire thing is extremely mellow with incredible guitar and vocals. If this song Serenity impresses you, Opeth should blow your mind wide open.
Prons said TOOL, he was right. Look into Lateralus (album). Most of the time it's a lot heavier and more complex. But the feeling is same and they do have some mellow stuff on the album. TOOL isn't for everyone though.
Seriously though...Opeth...get everything they've ever made

Opeth is awesome.
You should check out System of a Down though, Mesmerize / Hypnotize are both good albums, their original album is good if you dig the old stuff.
