It doesn't matter what the music is, the reason people get bored at weddings is because they drag on for hours.
Plus, weddings are inherently boring. Skip the ceremony and just get a marriage license. You'd save a huge amount of money doing that, too.

Well something I would play at my wedding "Kimi wo Sagashiteta" by CHEMISTRY. Its in Japanese but dammit its that good.

"Hotel California" by the Eagles. not a love song, but its a very good one.
id say "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band, but seeing as its about a player its not a really good idea.
you wanna keep people awake, give them GOOD FOOD. catering food is extremely boring. oh, and if you want to wake them up, find some heavy metal. nice call Reidar. you dont have to love it, just find something thats raw, heavy like a cargo container filled with lead and that will make the older people there able to hear it from the sheer volume.:smokin: but not TOO heavy cause you dont wanna kill anyone from the shock, and only play it for a couple seconds as the most effective alarm clock ever next to some type of explosive.

Meaningful lyrics? 'Blood Brothers' - Manowar. And I was serious about the Imperial March.
You want people awake? Shock 'em. Hire strippers to perform up at the altar.
Weddings are tedious, nothing else can be said. People will get bored, people will nod off. It is what it is.

Exactly! Go and get hitched. Save the money you would waste on a ceremony and go on a two week honeymoon to Hawaii or something. You could always have a reception afterwards at your convenience and you can have it anywhere. It's basically were people congratulate you and give you gifts and stuff. I personally think marriage is a private thing between the two people that are giving their vows.

Panic! At The Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies. Great song, that. Has a nice beat.
But if that doesn't do it for you:
I'll Stand by You. Beautiful music and lyrics. There are a bunch of covers, just find the one you like the most.
Aerosmith's I Don't Want To Miss a Thing.
Anything Sarah McLachlan.
And because it's in the bones, Ashley McIsaac's To America We Go
By the by, how'd the immigration issue with your intended's family go?

... A marriage is a lifestyle, a wedding however, where the vows are actually given is for the family. Why else would one have a wedding? They're not exactly fun... more of a status symbol.
Either way, I haven't been to a reception where people have fallen asleep from boredom... other reason, though. But here, we know how to throw a good party.

"Our House" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
"Indian Summer" by The Doors.
"We've Only Just Begun" (if that's the title) by The Carpenters.
More later, possibly.

True but for instance, what if your family were to dissagree with the marriage? What if you're family and friends were to think you don't belong together or that you're too young to get married? Because remember the two that are getting married are paying for those people to come and bring those thoughts with them. guyverfanboy's brother is 18 and barely out of high school and is getting married in July, his family thinks they are 'too young.'. I think in a lot of cases though, weddings are roughly expensive and people who don't make a lot of money just go and get the marriage license. Personally though, even if I did have the money I'd skip the boring wedding, get hitched and spend the money on a month long honeymoon and have a reception afterwards instead of the wedding.

I agree with this sentiment. I have been to both of my cousins' weddings and they were really quite boring. Do yourself and the guests a favor and make the wedding SHORT. If it doesn't drag on forever, no one gets bored. :)
KyouryokuSenshi and I want to get hitched. :D It's easier and a lot cheaper too!

I'm not sure what you're getting at as my mind is still a wee bit fuzzy...
If family and friends don't agree with the marriage and yet the couple is still going through with a wedding, then that's still a status symbol, though it's more of a 'I'm of an age, I can get married if I so choose' or 'see this, I' love this person so much (or I think this marriage is worth it because when her rich grandfather kicks the bucket I'm in the money) that I am going to stand up here in front of friends, family (and god, if that's your wont) and say my vows.'
Either way, still a status symbol.
That's the whole reason for weddings. Why do you think people are fighting so hard for same-sex marriage?
When people get married and the symbols of the wedding aren't important, they have a civil service or just forgo the entire thing and live in sin (sarcasm, for the love of chirst, the 'live in sin' crack was sarcasm).
But for everyone who's thinking of forgoing the wedding and reception because of the cost, remember, you don't (or at least shouldn't) receive the wedding gifts if you don't invite people to your wedding. You'll get many more gifts, which include gifts of money, when you invite people at least to the reception.

... happens with gay marriage all the time.
Parents, friends, family, they don't always agree with the marriage, but they're invited, and often times attend the wedding either to keep up appearances or for genuine love for the couple. Just because you don't agree with what they're doing doesn't mean you won't love, accept, and support them in what they do. They're invited for the same reasons.
Just because your mother doesn't agree with the marriage, does this mean that you won't invite her to the most important day of your life? That'd be pretty callous, if you ask me. Yeah, think hard if she's going to get drunk and then berate the bride during a toast. But think about the impact not inviting people with have on your relationship with them.

There's a fine line between disagreeing yet being supportive and people telling you it is a downright mistake for you to get married. I know a friend with parents and family that tell them 'it's the worse mistake of your life' and that would not be supportive at all and that alone would just ruin the wedding. Remember, not everyone has a poster child family. Sure, if you have a supportive family and some money saved up by all means go have a wedding. I'm not against weddings at all, it's nice for people who choose to have them and that is perfectly fine. Everyone has a different opinions, just do whatever makes one happy. ^_^ :P

Ah, the Simpsons of yesteryear were so good.
Anyway, play Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. If you don't, then the marriage is a bust. I'll play that at my wedding. EVERYONE will be wearing aviators. Even the priest. And maybe the statue of the Virgin Mary.

I think you should pick whatever songs you enjoy. You like Ozzy Ozborn and Led Zeppelin? Play them! You like Carpenters and Simon and Garfunkel? Play them! Why ask what others recommend? It's your wedding; screw your guests.
*ahem* I mean, uh, take a poll of your family members. Right under 'Should I really marry him?' put a 'What is your favorite song?' option. See how many notice.
